Tenda sprints down the misty road, but the final stretch collapses into a wall of steel. The Warlord stands ahead, flanked by elite guards, calm as a stone gate. The horn that has haunted the road sounds again, close now, and deliberate.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

That signal... no, it means him.

The Elder With Lantern goes rigid beside Tenda. The Warlord turns his head, and his smile sharpens when he sees the lantern in the Elder's hand.

The Warlord

The Warlord

You still carry the light, old friend. I wondered how long you would hide in that village.

The guards tighten their ring. Zero shifts into a fighting stance, Daisy draws in a breath, and Rex lowers his shoulders with a warning growl. The road feels narrower than a blade's edge.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

I know you. I know what you did to the province.

The Warlord does not deny it. He lifts the horn at his side, and the sound fades as if answering only to him. The connection is plain now, the Elder's past is not buried, it is standing in front of Tenda with a sword in hand.

Tenda holds the Warlord’s gaze and asks about the Elder, plain and steady. The road seems to listen.

The Warlord

The Warlord

You mean the lantern bearer. He was there when my father made his bargains.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

No... he remembers the road, the gate, all of it.

The Warlord lowers the horn a fraction, and his smile thins. That single answer pulls the past into the open for everyone standing on the road.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

I was sent to witness, not to obey. I saw what your family did to the villages.

Zero and Daisy both glance toward the Elder, while Rex stays low and watchful. Tenda’s right arm gives a faint, numb twitch at his side.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Then you know why I cannot let this road stay open.

The Warlord’s guards shift their footing, and the horn’s rhythm returns under the fog. The truth is exposed, but the threat now hardens around it.

Tenda steps across the Elder’s line and plants himself between the lantern and the guards. His numb arm hangs stiff, but his stance is solid.

The front rank checks up. One soldier’s spear tip wavers, then stops short of Tenda’s chest.

Tenda Wildheart

Their line hesitates.

Zero shifts wider to cover the gap, while Rex shows his teeth from low in the mist. Daisy stays behind the Elder, ready but still.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

I am not hiding from this road anymore.

The Warlord watches the barrier Tenda makes, then the Elder behind him. The horn beats on, faint and steady, threading through the fog.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Then you choose to stand beside what he witnessed.

The guards tighten, but none breaks forward. For the moment, the Elder remains shielded, and the road holds its shape in a hard, dangerous silence.

I hold the line beside the Elder. "I chose to stand behind a good man. You and me. Lets finish this. No more words. We fight!"

Tenda’s left hand lifts just enough to settle his balance, and his guarded stance sharpens into an open challenge. The horn keeps its faint rhythm in the fog.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Then die for your witness.

The front line breaks into motion at once. Spears surge forward, but Tenda’s block holds the center, forcing the guards to split around him instead of through him.

Zero lunges into the opening on the left. Rex explodes low through the mist, and Daisy pulls the Elder back one pace as the road narrows into a clash line.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

I know that horn. I know what it means.

The Warlord’s jaw tightens at the warning, and his guards fan wider, committing to the charge. The village below is still out of sight, but the road is no longer quiet.

Tenda and Zero cut hard to the Warlord’s flank, slipping into the misted edge of the line before the spears can settle. The road opens into chaos around them, all boots, breath, and steel-ready arms.

Tenda’s numb arm still drags from the last strike, but he drives through it, shoulder first, and the nearest guard stumbles aside. Zero crashes in beside him, keeping the Warlord from turning cleanly.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Split them. Do not let them breathe.

The guard line answers, but it answers late. Tenda gets inside the flank, close enough to force the Warlord back a step and ruin his angle.

Zero

Zero

There you are. Thought you’d make us chase longer than that.

The Elder With Lantern freezes at the sound of the horn again, then flinches as the Warlord’s command reaches the line. Daisy shifts to shield him from the spill of bodies while Rex prowls low through the churned mist.

The road is too wide now for a clean block, and the fight is right on top of the commander.

I press harder and cut off his retreat. I attempt to Ki kick him down

Tenda turns the press of bodies into a trap. He cuts off the Warlord’s retreat with a sharp step, then snaps a ki-lit kick into his centerline.

The Warlord folds and hits the road hard, horn skidding from his grip into the mist. His guards lose the line for a heartbeat, startled by the fall.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Hold the road!

Zero surges in to punish the opening while Rex lunges low through the churned fog, forcing two soldiers back from the commander’s reach.

The Elder With Lantern stares at the fallen Warlord, then at the horn rolling near Tenda’s foot. His grip tightens on the lantern, troubled and shaken.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

You know him... you know what he did to my village.

The road splits open around the downed commander, and the truth between them is no longer hidden.

Tenda’s kick clips the horn cleanly. It spins out of reach and disappears into the mist with a dull clatter, its rhythm broken at last. His right arm flares numb from the follow-through, but the road falls silent around the weapon.

The Warlord jerks toward it too late, fingers scraping wet stone. The soldiers hesitate, their formation still cracked and unsure without the signal.

Tenda Wildheart

Tenda Wildheart

The horn is gone.

Zero presses in on the nearest guards, forcing them back from the commander’s side while Rex prowls low at the edge of the fog, teeth bared.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

You hear it now, all of you. That horn was never just a call.

The Elder With Lantern lifts the lantern higher, his face tight with old recognition. The Warlord stays on the ground, cut off from his signal, and the broken road between them feels wider than the canyon itself.

Tenda drives in on the Warlord before the soldiers can recover their line. His numb arm stays tucked close, but his other shoulder leads the press, forcing the fallen commander to guard low instead of reaching for orders.

The Warlord tries to rise, yet Tenda’s pressure steals the space he needs. A sharp body check folds him back onto the slick stone, and the guards hesitate again, caught between protecting him and obeying him.

Tenda Wildheart

Tenda Wildheart

His signal is broken. His men are hesitating.

Zero keeps the nearest soldiers pinned in the fog, while Rex snaps at the edge of the opening, turning their footing cautious. The Elder With Lantern watches the Warlord with grim, fixed attention, lantern trembling in his grip.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Do not stare. Move!

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

That voice... I heard it long ago, on the road above the village.

Tenda stays on the Warlord’s flank, holding the pressure as the old recognition lands in the open. The soldiers’ line breaks further under the silence where the horn used to be, and the road belongs to Tenda’s side for the moment.

Tenda eases the pressure just enough to ask, and the road seems to listen with him. The Warlord stays pinned low, but the Elder With Lantern goes still, lantern light trembling over his knuckles.

Tenda asks how the elder knows the Warlord.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

Because I saw his father bargain with our dead, and because I was there when that bargain was paid.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

The road above the village burned after that night. I never forgot the horsemen or the boy behind them.

The Warlord

The Warlord

Old wounds make old cowards. Tell them what you saw, then.

The elder lifts his chin, and the words finally break free. He names the Warlord as the son of the man who came to the village for grain, for names, for silence, and left with blood on his escorts and promises unpaid.

Around them, Zero holds the misted soldiers at bay, Rex prowls the gap with his hackles high, and the Warlord’s control thins to a bitter glare. The truth is no longer hidden, and the road hangs on Tenda’s side while the elder waits for what comes next.

I tell the Warlord his father was a butcher

Tenda Wildheart

Your father was a butcher. He fed on grain, names, and silence, and left this village bleeding for it.

The words land cleanly. The Warlord’s glare tightens, and Tenda pays for the truth with a sharp sting in his numb forearm as he settles back into guard.

The Warlord

The Warlord

So that is what you call it now. Butchery, from a man who hides behind witnesses.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

I call it memory. I call it the smoke that never left our road.

Zero

He heard you, old man. That usually means it was true.

Rex shifts to block the fog-lane, and the broken line of soldiers stays broken. The village below remains out of sight, but the path behind Tenda is still held.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

I have carried that night too long to let him name it for me.

The elder lowers his lantern a fraction, then looks from Tenda to the Warlord, waiting for the next word as the mist swallows the road around them.

I look at the Warlord and say, "You've got two options. Option 1: you leave here and never return. Option 2: we fight to the end right now. The choice is yours.

He straightens under the insult, then gives a thin, humorless laugh. "You offer mercy while standing on my road."

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

The elder keeps his lantern raised and answers without looking away. "No. He offers a gate that you can still walk through."

Zero shifts his weight, eyes on the Warlord. "I'd take the door, if I were you."

The Warlord

The Warlord

His jaw tightens, then his gaze flicks past Tenda to the elder, measuring the cost. "The village will remember this either way."

Rex stays planted in the fog-lane, but the broken line does not move. The Warlord lowers his chin, then eases one step back, choosing not to press the halt into a blood price.

The Elder With Lantern

The Elder With Lantern

The elder's voice softens, but his hand stays steady on the lantern. "Then speak plainly. What did you come here to do, son of the man who sold us out?"
