Tenda bursts out of the mountain tunnel gate into cold night air, and the world opens wide. Wind lashes his tunic, carrying pine, dust, and the distant clang of alarm bells behind him.
Below the broken threshold, torchlight flickers across a steep stair cut into the cliff face. The path drops toward a lower ridge where black pines crowd a narrow overlook.

Xing Elira
Down there. If we stay at the gate, they box us in.

Zero
Finally, some room to fight. I was getting tired of walls.
Rex lunges to the front, ears pinned, staring into the mist below as if he already smells pursuers on the wind.
Tenda leads the rush onto the stairway, feet skimming stone as the group commits to the descent. Dust shakes loose from the cliff with every hard step.

The Elder With Lantern
The lower overlook may let us turn and face them before they seal the route.
“I flank them through the pines”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Tenda cuts off the pursuit line by slipping into the pines, where the stair breaks into shadow and root. The enemy front loses sight of him for a breath, then the whole shape of the chase starts to bend.

Tenda Wildheart
Their line is too narrow for a clean turn.
He moves lower through the trees, using trunk and mist to hide his angle. Behind him, the stairway stays busy with noise, but the flank is his now.
Zero and Rex keep the pressure on from the path, pulling attention forward while Tenda slides out to the side. The pursuers commit to the wrong shape, and that mistake opens the gap.
Tenda bursts from between two pines at their exposed edge, forcing the nearest fighters to twist and reset. The chase becomes a trap for them instead of the group.

Xing Elira
Good. They are divided now.
The Elder With Lantern looks on with startled awe as the mountain sounds echo behind them, heavy and distant. The route is no longer a retreat, it is a controlled descent with the enemy out of step.

Tenda Wildheart
Keep moving. Their line is broken now.

Zero
Heh. That was clean.

Rex
They will not regain footing before the overlook.

Xing Elira
So this is what truth costs. So be it.

The Elder With Lantern
The mountain has heard enough lies.
Below them, the alarm bells faded into the wind as the stairway wound on through stone and pine.
Tenda Wildheart descended with the others into the open air, and the Warlord's grip on the mountain was broken. The Elder's betrayals stood exposed, and Xing Elira's bloodline was no longer a rumor but a fact carried in silence. For a moment, the cliffside held only breath, distance, and the hard-earned relief of a fight ended.
