The woods fall quiet as the path tightens. Ahead, the Dark Forest swallows the light, and a tall figure in gray armor steps out from the trunks, blocking the way.
The Woodsman draws a rusted blade, but he does not rush. His stance says guard, not hunt, as he plants himself between Embers and the deeper trees.

The Royal Courier
Wait. He is not moving to strike... he is warning us.

The Woodsman
That silence is wrong. Something larger is near. Stay close, and do not run into the brush.
Embers stands at the edge of the hollow, with the courier to one side and the Woodsman ahead. The choice is plain now, trust them to lead her through, or turn back into the woods alone.
The Dark Forest path is blocked, and the only open route stays beside them.
“Seeing the man in Gray armor spikes Embers fear almost beyond control. It is him, the man who killed her family. It is him, the man who destroyed her life. It is him, the man who has hunted her since she was five for reasons she cannot comprehend. Everything in her screams to run to hide the vanish like smoke. Yet the Whispers state, that she should not move that she should observe and she should perhaps cautiously trust The Woodsman who has constantly saved her and fed her and guided her although from afar. She attempts to stand her ground.”
FAILURE (Great Willpower, rolled -2)

Embers freezes, but the man in gray does not lunge. His blade stays low, angled away from her, and the courier's worried gaze flicks between them.

The Woodsman
Easy. He is not here for you tonight.

The Royal Courier
You know him? Then say it plainly, are we safe with him?
The Woodsman answers by stepping aside half a pace, enough to open a narrow line through the hollow. The firelight catches a dull silver sigil on his armor, old and worn smooth.

The Woodsman
I have kept worse things from this place than one frightened child. Keep to the light, and rest if you can.
Embers sees the same gray, the same shape, but the man in front of her carries a different stillness than the one in her memory.

The Royal Courier
Then let us make camp here. Just for the night. Will you stay close while she settles?
“Panic Beyond Reason but unable to flee Embers curls into a ball and begins to sob. It's just too much she thinks to herself I can't do this anymore I'm so alone no one loves me I even the night wants to hunt me why I did nothing wrong just because my eyes are red people want to kill me I don't understand she sends out a yearning haunted wave of emotion hoping that the Royal Courier will pick up on this and give her the physical comfort that she needs if not her then perhaps the woodsman?”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +1)

Embers folds down into herself beside the fire, knees tucked tight, her small frame trembling with the force of the sobs. The hollow stays quiet around her, listening.

The Royal Courier
Oh, Ember... come here. You do not have to hold all of that alone.
The courier crosses the mossy ground at once and lowers herself carefully beside the girl, one hand open and gentle, waiting rather than reaching too fast.

The Woodsman
Too long she has been made to fear every shadow. Tonight, she is still here. That is enough.
A soft pulse of warmth spreads from the firelight, and Ember's raw grief finds an answering steadiness in the air. The woodsman does not crowd her, but his stance eases another fraction.

The Royal Courier
Take my cloak if you want it. Sleep can wait until you are ready. We are here.
The courier settles beside her with patient stillness, offering her shoulder and the warmth of shared breath. For the first time tonight, the hollow feels like it can hold them all.
