The courier reaches the ground at last, one boot sinking into the soft earth. She keeps her palms open and her shoulders low, then slowly draws a strip of dried fruit from her satchel.

The Royal Courier
Peace, if you want it. I am not here to chase you.
She offers the fruit toward Embers, eyes careful and tired. Behind her, the brush settles where the wolf vanished, and the woods fall quiet again.

The Royal Courier
You helped me when you did not need to. That kind of mercy is rare out here.
The fruit smells sweet, and the courier’s hands do not hide anything.

“Shaking with hunger and with fear is nothing new to embers, however being offered some food is a rare occurrence. Only the Woodsman has been so kind. Embers will take a huge breath and attempt to calm herself at least enough to snatch the piece of fruit from the Royal Courier's hand and quickly shove it in her mouth as if it would be taken from her. With a mouthful of fruit she mutters her name though it may not be clear.”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +2)

Embers lunges forward on a shaky breath and snatches the fruit from the courier’s hand.
She crams it into her mouth at once, cheeks puffing as sweet juice runs over her fingers.

Embers Firestarter
Sweet.
The courier’s shoulders loosen instead of tightening. She lets her hand fall and gives Embers space to chew.

The Royal Courier
Good. Eat. You do not need to thank me with fear.
Embers manages a muffled name through the mouthful, the sound small but real.

The Royal Courier
Embers. All right. I can work with that.

The Royal Courier
If you will let me, I can bring more than fruit. Water. A path. A camp that does not want you gone.
