Inside the half-buried refuge, Embers kneels and scrapes loose stone from the floor. Dust lifts in the dim light, and every cleared patch makes the chamber feel a little less like a grave.
The Woodsman braces the broken gate with shoulder and stone, fitting the heavy blocks together one by one. He works in silence, steady as a tree rooting into slope.

The Royal Courier
These walls have seen old roads, old banners, and older fears. Before the Cataclysm, kingdoms leaned on each other more than they do now.
She sits by the wall with her knees drawn up, speaking as if she is reading the world from memory. Her voice softens the room, and the ruin feels briefly inhabited instead of abandoned.
Embers' hands keep moving. Pebbles gather in a little pile near her knee, and the cleared floor starts to show the refuge's shape, a place meant for living, not hiding.

The Woodsman
A place can be remade. It only needs time, care, and someone stubborn enough to keep working at it.
The gate settles more firmly into place. For a moment, the only sounds are breath, stone, and the faint hush of the forest beyond the threshold.
“Embers takes time to check over the little girl that they rescued from the slavers . Checking for wounds and reassuring the little one that she is safe from the evil men.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +1)

Embers turns from the floor and kneels beside the rescued girl, slow and careful. Dust clings to her fingers as she parts the child’s sleeve and checks the small bruises and scrapes with a light touch.

Embers Firestarter
The worst marks are on her wrists.

The Royal Courier
Easy now. You are safe here. Let me see your hands.
The girl lets out a shaky breath and leans toward Embers instead of away. The sound seems to loosen something in the chamber, as if the refuge itself is listening.

The Woodsman
You did well to bring her here. A safe door matters, but so does a gentle one.
The Royal Courier glances over, then smiles faintly at Embers. Her fingers rest on the worn stone beside her, steadying herself in the dim room.

The Royal Courier
She has not said much since we found her. Maybe she will speak more when she knows no one here means her harm.
The child nods once, clutching Embers’s sleeve with tiny, careful fingers. For the first time, her shoulders drop, and she looks toward the chamber with a timid sort of trust.
