The mist parts on the ridge. The Inquisitor stands there in bright plate, his presence pressing down on the crags like a verdict. The black fissures in Surazal's skin seem to answer him with a faint, hungry shimmer.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

There you are. The stain finally shows itself.

He lifts a palm toward the warped air around Surazal, as if measuring a wound he intends to cauterize. Far below, the ash lies still. The Holy Order has found its beacon.

The Voice

The Voice

He sees the vessel, not the hand within it. Let him look longer.

Surazal

The fissures on his armor are old. The light around him is a ward.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

Your corruption calls to our order. End this, surrender, and I may grant you a clean death.

A colder pulse rises under Surazal's skin, answering from deeper than flesh. The hidden entity stirs with him, and the Inquisitor's hand tightens on his blade as the hunt narrows to a single, final choice.

Surazal

I admit it. I likely kill many in the making of this form, in the reach for the curse. The dead are part of the cost. I will not apologize, their sacrifice serves something greater, the fall of the Holy Order.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

Then you confess by choice. Good. A stain that knows itself is easier to cut away.

The words land, and for a heartbeat the ridge goes still. The Inquisitor’s blade does not lower, but his eyes sharpen with grim respect rather than surprise.

The Voice

The Voice

He hears the confession. Now he must decide whether you are heretic, rival, or proof.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

You speak like a zealot and stand like a wound. Tell me, are you master of this power, or only its next casualty?

The black seam in Surazal’s chest gives a faint pulse beneath the ash haze. The Inquisitor watches that light closely, not retreating, but no longer rushing.

The Voice

He is listening now. Press this opening, or let it harden into judgment.

"the power did indeed attempt to take me but I took it" while he is distracted I will open my grimoire of forbidden spells and cast a spell of destruction to initiate combat

Surazal snaps the grimoire open. Black script crawls across the page, and the air around the ledge tightens like a drawn wire.

Surazal

Surazal

The seal in my chest answers the page.

He turns the spell loose from the book, and a lance of ruin tears across the mist toward the Inquisitor.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

So, there it is. Show me the shape of your corruption.

The blast catches the ridge in a burst of ash and violet glare. The Inquisitor is forced back, blade up, boots skidding on stone.

The Voice

The Voice

Good. Now he sees you as you are.

The mist whips apart again, and the Inquisitor regains his footing with his sword still raised, but his advance has broken.

I will put more effort tapping into my limitless mana reserves to launch a cataclysmic level attack

Surazal draws deeper on the well inside him, and the seam of light in his chest flares white-blue beneath the dark lattice. The air around his hands tightens, then bends.

Surazal

Surazal

More.

The grimoire screams with torn pages as a vast surge floods through the spell. Violet and black fire swells outward, swallowing the ledge in a roaring halo.

The Inquisitor throws up his blade, but the wave hammers him off balance and drives him hard across the stone. His feet skid, then lose purchase.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

What are you?

The Voice hovers in the fractured mist, watching the force gather around Surazal like a storm given shape. The ridge cracks under the pressure, ash lifting in spirals.

When the flare thins, the Inquisitor is no longer pressing forward. He has been driven back from the ledge, sword still raised, staring at Surazal through the glowing ruin.

Surazal lifts his hands and hauls the sky down with them. The ash above the Crags thickens, twists, and answers, boiling into a black-violet ceiling over the ledge.

Surazal

Surazal

More.

The storm breaks at his command. A column of necrotic rain lances straight onto the Inquisitor, blotting out sword and stone in a shrieking veil of dark light.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

No, wait.

The holy blade flashes once, then vanishes under the deluge. The ridge shudders as the force drives the Inquisitor down and backward, his armor buckling beneath the impact.

The Voice

Hold it. Bind it tighter.

When the storm thins, the ledge is scarred black and smoking. The Inquisitor lies stunned at the far edge, sword half-buried, while the seam of light in Surazal's chest burns steady through the fading ash.
