The Trap and the Treasure

The chamber answers the pulled chip with a hard, sudden change. Green goes amber. The maintenance console falls dark, and the pulse log in Tanner’s hands starts thrashing like it wants out.

Access restored. Retrieval authorization returned. The pulse was a lure, a timing key, and your tablet was synced to it.

On Tanner’s screen, the blue route collapses into a neat trap line, the earlier window now revealed as the exact chamber lock-in point. Around them, the wall relays click awake, then settle, as if the mountain is holding its breath.

Tanner

Tanner

We were never timing the entrance. We were timing the lock.

Remedy keeps the chip. It glows faintly in her grip, small and priceless, the kind of relic that changes a trip from reckless to legendary.

With the chamber stable, the team fans out fast. Zara and Gerard move for the nearest crates, while Chuck starts sorting the marked finds by weight and fragility.

Then let’s not waste the miracle. Grab everything we can carry.

Gerard

Gerard

This is it. If the route holds, we leave with history.

Metal cases, old tools, sealed containers, and carved artifacts begin piling near the exit path. The whole crew works with that bright, stunned hope of people realizing the mountain might pay them back.

Check the exit path to ensure the route remains clear for our escape.

SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled +1)

The Trap and the Treasure

Remedy checks the exit path, and the corridor answers cleanly. No fresh debris, no falling seals, just the metal-rimmed slit breathing cold air and the floor clear all the way to the maintenance chamber.

Remedy

Remedy

The way out is open.

A faint tremor rolls through the walls anyway, loose dust shivering from the relays. The route holds, but the mountain is awake.

Remedy gives the team a quick look toward the opening. She has the path, and she has time to move the load before the chamber decides otherwise.

Zara straightens with a crate in both hands, already angling it toward the slit. Gerard shifts his weight to clear space for the heavier cases.

Chuck snatches up the maintenance card and pulse log, tucking them into the top of his pack like they matter as much as the artifacts. Tanner keeps one eye on the tablet, now quieting in his grip.

Egress path confirmed. Retrieval window remains open. Proceed while the relays are stable.

I move the crates out through the slit

SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +0)

The Trap and the Treasure

Remedy takes the nearest crate by its handles and drives it through the slit in one clean push. The cold draft catches the dust as it slides into the maintenance passage and lands upright instead of tipping.

She shifts her grip, shoulders in the second load, and sends that one after it. The crate clears the frame with room to spare, the metal rim scraping only powder from its corners.

Zara

Zara

Nice. Keep them moving.

Zara angles aside with the next case, giving Remedy a clear lane while Gerard catches the lid before it can knock the stack loose. The draft keeps tugging at loose dust and paper edges.

Chuck

Chuck

Maintenance passage is holding. I am seeing the route deeper in, too.

Chuck braces the maintenance card and pulse log against his pack, then points with two fingers toward the slit, where the hidden corridor opens beyond the chamber. Tanner flicks one last glance at the tablet and steps in behind the load.

Retrieval state is now secured. Continue egress before the next tremor.

The last crate bumps over the threshold, and the team’s haul is now stacked in the passage beyond the chamber. Dust shakes from the relays again, but the opening stays clear for the next carry.
