The Obsidian rolls beneath Dagg’s boots, its black rail cutting across an open sea bright with afternoon light. Corin stands attentive in his green jacket, while Panko gives them privacy near the mast and the crew work around them.

Dagg Nabbitt

Dagg Nabbitt

Mara stood for her family’s legacy. She fought to keep her land because it was more than soil to her. It was the promise her family had carried forward.

Dagg Nabbitt

Dagg Nabbitt

She loved fiercely, Corin. She believed she was carrying my child, Alden, and she still faced every burden with courage. I hope you become half the person she was.

Corin’s expression tightens as he listens. Wind pulls at his jacket, and the ship rises over a long swell before settling with a deep wooden groan.

Corin Vell

Corin Vell

I cannot promise to be her, Dagg. But I can promise that what she stood for will not be forgotten while I draw breath.

Beyond the rail, the horizon seems impossibly wide. Dagg watches the wake unfurl behind the vessel, astonished by the ship’s bold motion and the boundless life of the sea.

Panko

Panko

There is plenty of deck left for wonder, but supper will not wait forever. Corin, shall I give you both another quiet moment?

A sharp bell rings from somewhere ahead, three times through the sea wind. The Obsidian’s crew abandon their easy rhythm as Corin turns toward a low smear of smoke on the horizon.

Crew Member 1

Wreckage off the starboard bow! There is someone waving from it!

The helmsman swings the black ship toward the smoke. Broken spars rise from the water beside a half-swamped fishing boat, while a lone figure clings to its overturned hull.

Corin Vell

Corin Vell

That boat should be nearer the coast. The current would not bring it this far out.

Panko

Panko

Then someone carried it here, or someone wanted it found. I will ready a line and a dry blanket.

Panko hurries below and returns with rope and canvas. The stranded figure raises one arm again, then slips from sight behind the rolling wreck as a dark shape passes beneath the foam.

Corin Vell

Corin Vell

The sea took them under. We are close enough to help, but not close enough to see what waits below.

“Where is the captain at, Jack FInch was his name right? Shouldnt he be here to help?! {Dagg looks around but doesnt wait for an answer} {Even tho he has never swam the best, he jumped into the ocean without a second thought to help the survivor. Dagg struggles against the waves and starts to worry about sharks, a fear he should have had before jumping in.] {He grabs the survivor and drags him to the broken ship in the water, safely pulling him up on broken pieces of the fishing boats deck.}”

Where is Captain Jack Finch? He should be here to help!

Dagg looks toward the forward deck but does not wait. He vaults the rail into the cold water, while Panko shouts and the crew rushes for more rope.

The sea seizes Dagg at once. He fights through the chop toward the overturned boat, and dark shapes beneath the foam stir every superstition he has about hungry sharks.

Dagg Nabbitt

Dagg Nabbitt

Those shapes may be nothing, but I should have thought about sharks before jumping.

A wave drives Dagg against the survivor, a lean young adult man with wind-browned skin, a narrow stubbled face, wet dark hair, and dark trousers, a young adult man in a torn gray shirt, and his animal-loving instinct overcomes the panic. He catches the man beneath the arms.

Dagg drags him toward the wreck, but the broken deck rolls sharply and throws them apart. The survivor catches a floating spar, while Dagg reaches only a jagged rail.

Panko

Panko

Hold to the spar! The current is carrying you toward the lee side. We can pull you both from there!

Rope splashes near Dagg’s hand. The failed climb has revealed a safer angle through the wreckage, but the survivor is still slipping away on the spar.

“{Dagg fights the waves doing his best. Still trying to get to the survivors in the water. Fear of the sharks set in, not for Dagg himself but for the survivors.} {Dagg takes one deep breath and then dives under the water, hoping the waves are not as severe down below. While under the water he sees another survivor, a thick thighed female with long blonde hair and pale skin, shaped like aphrodite the goddess, sinking to the ocean floor. Dagg swims hard to catch up and grabs her and pulls her up to the surface. He swims towards the other survivor while carrying the female survivor and gets them safely onto broken pieces of the fishing boat wreckage.} {Corin throws a long rope into the water right by Dagg. Dagg grabs it and holds on to the two survivors, using his strength to hold them both and the rope.}”

Dagg fights through the waves, keeping one hand near the rope while watching the dark water around the stranded survivor and the drifting spar. Superstitious fear makes every moving shadow a shark, but his animal-loving instinct drives him toward the endangered survivors.

Dagg Nabbitt

The water is calmer below the breaking waves.

Dagg takes a deep breath and dives. Beneath the chop, he sees a young adult woman with pale skin, long blonde hair, and a strong, full build, wearing a torn blue traveling dress and brown belt sinking toward the dim ocean floor.

He swims hard, catches the woman around the chest, and drives upward with her. Breaking the surface, he reaches the stranded survivor, then holds both survivors against jagged pieces of the wreckage.

Corin Vell

Corin Vell

Dagg! Take the rope! I have you both!

Corin throws a long ranch rope beside him. Dagg seizes it, wraps his grip around the line, and uses his legendary strength to keep both survivors secured as the wreckage rises and falls.

The rope holds. The stranded survivor clings to one broken beam, the blonde survivor lies supported beside him, and Dagg keeps them both above the water while the crew hauls the line toward The Obsidian.

“{Dagg holds on as the crew pull them to safety} {Once on board Dagg proceeds to give mouth to mouth to save the drowned woman.} {Just then Jack Finch comes out hearing the commotion.} {Remember Jack is a human with long black hair, He has the traditional pirate outfit and wears a red bandana under his all black pirate hat. He wears the crew outfit, a black gambeson with a red ship stitched on the right torso peck. He is athletic build and has face stubble. He has a proud look at all times, strong. He has muscular arms and his long coat is adorned with red stitching.} {Jack speaks up asking about the noise and how he can help} {Dagg gets the woman to breath and holds her head to the side to spit out any remaining water.}”

The Obsidian’s crew hauls steadily, drawing Dagg, the stranded man, and the rescued woman alongside the ship. Hands reach down with lines and canvas slings.

Dagg keeps both survivors supported until the crew lifts them over the rail. His superstitious fear watches every dark ripple, imagining hungry shapes, but his animal-loving instinct refuses to abandon either helpless body.

A strong, athletic human man, a young adult with a square face, strides from the forward passage, long black hair beneath an all-black pirate hat and red bandana. Red stitching edges his long coat, and a red ship marks his black gambeson.

Jack Finch

Jack Finch

What is all this noise? Who are they, and how can I help?

Dagg lowers the sinking blonde survivor onto the deck and begins mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Water leaves her mouth as he works, while the crew settles the stranded survivor nearby beneath a dry blanket.

After several breaths, the sinking blonde survivor coughs and draws air. Dagg turns her head carefully to the side, letting the remaining water spill clear while Jack drops to one knee beside them.

Jack Finch

Good work. Bring more blankets and clear space by the mast. We will get both survivors warm and hear their story when they can speak.
