Dust puffs from the split floorboards as the pale thing sways in the breach. The hidden chamber below groans, and the pharmacy answers with a sickly creak. Angela stands over the opening while Marek and the Stranger watch for her next move.

Angela Diaboli

The floor will fail if it keeps shifting.

Angela drives her will into the shivering entity, and it stills at the edge of the hole, eyes locked on her like a machine awaiting orders. The rubble settles just enough to let her speak command into the silence.

The Stranger

If it can be bound, do it now. If it cannot, we lose the room.

Marek shifts closer to the cracked joists, ready to brace them again if the floor gives. The pale entity does not flee. It listens.

Marek

Marek

Tell it what it is. Under you, or under the ruin.

Angela answers with power instead of patience. The entity lowers itself to one knee in the dust, trapped between her command and the weight of the building, its hollow stare fixed on her like a sworn vassal.

Above them, the pharmacy stops complaining for one thin breath. Below them, the dark chamber waits. Angela has a new servant, and a new depth to claim before the tower tears itself apart.

I brace the floor and descend into the chamber

Angela plants both boots at the edge of the split boards and heaves. The cracked joists answer with a long, shuddering groan, but they hold.

Dust sifts down in a gray veil as she shifts the seam wider by force, creating enough room to drop through without tearing the room apart.

The chamber below is open.

Marek flattens one hand on the nearest brace and leans his weight into it, eyes tracking the floor as if daring it to fail.

I hear it moving down there. Stay with the opening, or we lose the whole level.

Angela lowers herself into the gap, one hand on the splintered edge, the other dropping first into the dark chamber below. The heartbeat beneath the floor keeps thudding, steady as a war drum.

Her weight disappears into the breach, and the chamber swallows her to the waist, then the shoulders, while the pharmacy above gives one metallic clink from the lower levels and settles into a tense, listening silence.

I descend into the chamber and hold the collapsing building up from below

Angela drops through the breach and hits the hidden chamber in a crouch, both hands slamming into a cracked support beam below. The beam shivers, then takes her weight.

Above her, the pharmacy groans, but the floor stops sagging. Dust rains through the split boards in a thin, steady fall.

The pale entity kneels in the dark beside her, head bowed under her command, while the rhythm under the concrete keeps hammering like a second heartbeat.

Marek

It held. She is holding it from underneath.

Then we keep our voices down and let her work.

A metallic clink drifts down from somewhere deeper in the tower, faint but clear, and the chamber answers with another strained creak.

Angela’s grip locks the fracture in place, but the dark below is still open, listening, as if waiting for her next command.

I am not going to hold this building up forever. Anything that wishes to live needs to get out now!

Angela’s command rolls through the chamber and the hollow above it. The pale entity lifts its head at once, then pushes away from the beam and turns toward the opening.

Release.

The Stranger jerks back from the breach, giving space as the floor answers with a long groan. Dust spills in sheets, but the brace holds.

Marek

Marek

You heard her. Move.

The pale thing crawls free first, then one of the tower’s hidden supports gives a wet crack. Below it, a narrow service gap opens toward a lower maintenance run, and the metallic clink answers again from deeper inside.

Marek catches sight of the opening and the old access ladder beyond it, half-buried but usable. Above, the pharmacy still shudders, waiting for the last body to clear.
