Nyxous leaves the towering chimney with the raven held securely against her, its leather tube fastened beneath one leg. She follows the familiar high passage toward the western basalt overlook.
Teral waits above on the western shelf, his uninjured wing raised against the ash-laden wind. Vaelith stands near the lower approach, guarding the route and the sanctuary beyond.
Teral
I see the fresh scorch on your throat and foreleg. Before we discuss the refuge, tell me whether the ward demanded more than you could safely give.
Vaelith
And tell us what you learned at the chimney. We can protect the sanctuary without turning every harmless creature into a warning.
Teral descends partway from the overlook, leaving Nyxous room to approach without crowding her. Vaelith keeps the lower path clear, her attention moving between the raven, the vents, and the open heights.
Teral
If danger comes while duty pulls you elsewhere, I will not decide for you and call it protection. We need a way to share choices without either of us becoming the other’s keeper.
Vaelith
The same applies to me. We can set signals, limits, and responsibilities, but your freedom must remain part of the sanctuary’s safety. Let us decide those boundaries together.
“I tell Teral how I want our bond shared”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)
nyxous
I want our bond shared through honest choices, shared watch, and warmth freely offered. Protect me, Teral, but never command me or decide for me.
Nyxous speaks beneath the western overlook, the raven quiet against her side. Ash drifts between the basalt pillars while Teral listens without interrupting.
Teral
Then we guard each other without holding each other captive. I will ask before I act for you, and I will trust you to answer plainly.
Vaelith
Make the signals clear. Shared watch should mean neither of you carries danger alone, and neither of you loses the right to choose.
Teral lowers his raised wing, leaving the wind between them open. His posture eases, and the promise settles as a boundary rather than a chain.
Teral
Your freedom belongs inside this bond, Nyxous. So does mine. I choose partnership with you, built one truthful decision at a time.
