The roots dim to a soft amber glow. In the quiet chamber, wingbeats and breathing become clear, while the empty necklace rests against Nyxous’s scales.
Teral settles beside her at a respectful distance, his posture watchful but unpossessive. The the raven remains securely beneath Nyxous’s control, rustling once before going still.
Teral
The power answered you, not anyone who stood nearby. I will not pretend that makes the silence easier, but I will stay present within it.
Amber light moves beneath the basin’s carvings, revealing a second inscription beneath the old crown-mark. Its letters brighten only when Nyxous’s new power stirs.
The Root-Heart
The necklace is empty, but its purpose has left a shape behind. What you carry may open sanctuaries, expose them, or remain sleeping.
Teral
Your mother left more than a hidden voice here. If the next truth asks something of you, I will ask what you choose before I offer help.
Beyond the chamber, the root stair gives a faint answering tremor. Dust slips from the vaulted ceiling, and somewhere above, a distant wingbeat crosses the ruined monastery.

SUCCESS (Fair Persuasion, rolled +2)
nyxous
Teral, help me establish clear boundaries for this power. I want its protection defined without letting it govern me.
Teral inclines his head and shifts closer, still leaving space between them. Amber light rests across his wings as he studies the quiet magic beneath Nyxous’s heart.
Teral
Then we name them together. It may warn you, shield what you choose, and open paths only when you consent. It may not command, compel, or act through you without permission.
The amber roots brighten with each boundary. Their glow gathers into three steady rings around Nyxous, then settles inward without tightening or disturbing her breath.
Teral
You can refuse its power at any moment. You can set aside a warning, deny an opening, or choose another protection. I will ask before helping, and I will accept your answer.
nyxous
The power answers without pressure.
The Root-Heart
Boundaries accepted. Protection remains yours to direct, refusal remains effective, and no crown, ward, root, or bond may turn your choice into command.
