Oceania travels through the protected eastern passage with Mother and Vaelor beside her. Far below Dawnspine, the whale pod remains sheltered in the warm basin, guarded by living roots.
The passage rises toward nesting cliffs carved by ancient tides. Pale markers emerge from the stone, their grooves filled with blue mineral light as the current carries the three guardians home.
The elder guardian waits on a broad submerged ledge with the elderly reef guardian. Shell tokens, woven kelp cords, and smooth tide-stones rest between them.

The Elder Guardian
Dawnspine has spoken of your refuge, Vaelor. Blackreef’s guardian has carried its warning farther than any shell, and now her mother comes beneath our cliffs.

The Elderly Reef Guardian
These markers remember every promise made beside them. Today, they will remember an alliance between sanctuaries, nurseries, and the western pod.
Mother answers with a deep, resonant call from the passage below. Its echo rolls through the cliffs, waking hidden shells and drawing warm currents around the gathered guardians.

Vaelor
Then let the rite bind no one by force. We share refuge, warnings, and guardianship while each current remains free to choose its own course.
✓ Quest Accepted
Bind the sanctuaries in an acknowledged covenant
“I place Blackreef’s shell among the tokens and vow to share refuge freely.”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +1)

Oceania lifts the carved Blackreef shell from her coils and settles it among the shell tokens, woven cords, and tide-stones. Its pale surface catches the mineral light.

Oceania
I vow to share Blackreef’s refuge freely, with every sanctuary, nursery, and pod that needs shelter.
The shell answers with a warm blue pulse. Light travels through the tide-stones, then joins the ancient markers beneath the ledge, binding no current or guardian.

The Elder Guardian
Blackreef’s promise now stands beside Dawnspine’s. Refuge freely offered becomes stronger than refuge defended alone.

The Elderly Reef Guardian
The markers have heard her vow. They will remember that shelter may be shared without taking freedom from those who enter it.

Vaelor
Then our alliance has a heart, not a chain. I will guard these waters with you, and keep the choice to return open for all.
Below the ledge, Mother’s resonant call rolls through the passage. Hidden shells awaken in answer, and warm currents spread from Dawnspine toward Blackreef and the sheltered western pod.

Oceania
Vaelor, there is something I wish to discuss with you in private.
Vaelor studies her across the mineral-lit ledge, then glances toward the elder guardians and the shell tokens. Mother’s distant call fades below.

Vaelor
Of course. Come with me. The western overlook is empty, and the current will carry no words from there.
Vaelor guides Oceania along a narrow shelf beneath the nesting cliffs. Blue mineral light dims behind them, leaving only the hush of deep water and distant whale song.

The Elder Guardian
We will keep the rite undisturbed. Speak freely, Oceania.
At the overlook, Vaelor folds his slate-blue wings close and leaves her a respectful space. Beyond the ledge, warm currents drift toward the refuge and western pod.

Vaelor
We are alone. Tell me what weighs on you, or what you want me to understand.
✓ Quest Accepted
Tell Vaelor what weighs on her
“i have to go away for a while, and i think you've known that for a while now, i wont ask you to leave your home, but know your company would be welcomed, i will return whenever our refuges need me or when you need me". i hand him a shell "if ever you need me just blow into this horn and I will come"”

Oceania
I have to go away for a while, and I think you have known that for some time. I will not ask you to leave your home, but your company would be welcome. I will return whenever our refuges need me, or whenever you need me.
Oceania’s voice roughens before the promise is finished, reopening the soreness left by her warning song. Still, she reaches into the woven offerings and selects a small, spiraled shell.

Oceania
If you ever need me, blow into this horn and I will come.
She places the shell horn before Vaelor. Its rim bears the elder guardian’s blue mineral dust, marking it as borrowed from the rite rather than carried from Oceania’s own possessions.

Vaelor
Then I will hear this as an invitation, not a tether. Go where your current calls, Oceania. If I sound it, I will need you, and I will trust you to come when you can.
Vaelor curls one claw around the horn, careful not to crush its fragile spiral. His slate-blue wings remain folded, though the current stirs them toward her.

Vaelor
But tell me this before you leave. Where will you go first, and what danger do you expect to find there?
