The Ancestor's Final Vigil

With the void breach sealed, the Ancestor’s shimmer turns thinner, like dawn pulled through glass. He rests one knee to the stone and lets his long vigil go at last.

The Ancestor

My watch is done, Derick Force. I have waited a century to see this end, and now I long for the afterlife, for the company of our family once more.

They bid you guard Joi well. She is yours to cherish, and mine to honor.

He lowers a set of supple leather armor, fitted with careful seams and light fastenings, sized perfectly for Joi’s small frame. The chamber’s last coldness seems to slip away with the gift.

Joi steps close, ears forward, as the armor settles in Derick’s hands. The Ancestor’s light loosens into silver dust, and the air feels suddenly wide, waiting for what Derick does next.

The Ancestor's Final Vigil

Derick lowers to one knee beside Joi and guides the little armor into place. The leather settles neatly, made for her stride, not her stillness.

He pats her head once, then again, while his hands work the straps with careful, practiced ease. Joi stands proud beneath his touch, ears flicking at every buckle.

Silver dust drifts around them in the calm air, catching the dim glow like a blessing. The chamber feels less like a tomb and more like a shelter.
