Crossing the Abyss of Light

Derick Force steps through the shimmering veil and onto a bridge of solid light. Beneath him yawns a vast abyss, black and bottomless, while ash drifts upward in slow gray curls.

The bridge hums under his boots like a struck bell. Ahead, the Hooded Figure moves carefully with the stone held close, and the Ash-Wrapped Sentinel signals for Derick to keep tight formation.

Wind knifes across the span, carrying ozone and old heat. The light beneath Derick flickers once, then steadies, as the bridge stretches toward a distant platform cut from the dark.

Joi pads close at Derick's side, ears pinned and body low, as the far platform comes into clearer view, ringed with pale runes and broken black stone.

Derick Force surges up the glowing span, boots striking the light with steady, forceful rhythm. Joi stays tight at his side as the bridge shivers beneath them.

Ahead, the Hooded Figure slows, then turns as Derick closes the gap. The Ash-Wrapped Sentinel shifts aside, giving him room on the narrow path.

Derick reaches their flank in a single clean push of speed, matching their pace beside the Hooded Figure. The abyss below seems to pull at the edges of the light.

The far platform looms larger now, its runes broken and its stone blackened by old fire. Ash curls around their ankles as the way forward waits in silence.

Derick Force slips into the Hooded Figure’s pace without breaking stride, his boots finding the brightest seam of the bridge. Joi presses close on his left, paws ringing softly against solid light.

The bridge gives a long, uneasy pulse under them, then steadies. The distant platform sharpens in view, runes fractured around a blackened center.

A thin seam of pale light flickers from the stone the Hooded Figure carries, and the bridge answers with a faint hum instead of a shudder.

Derick reaches the others’ shoulders at last, fully alongside them now, with the ruined platform drawing near at the end of the trembling span.

Derick Force and Joi reach the end of the bridge as the light beneath their feet thickens into a firm, glassy sheen. The platform’s broken runes lie ahead, blackened stone splitting the pale glow.

The bridge gives one clean pulse, then calms. A hidden groove of light opens at the platform’s edge, narrow and exact, as if waiting for the stone’s weight.

Joi plants herself at Derick Force’s side, ears forward, while the Hooded Figure angles the stone toward the groove with urgent care.

The stone clicks into the groove. Faint lines of light race across the fractured runes, and a black seam at the platform’s center loosens with a dry crack.
