Captain Maela Vey leads Pando, Tessa, and the protected records clerk from the barracks through the waking eastern streets. Two guards accompany them, while unconscious Sergeant Brant remains secured under watch.

Captain Vey
Stay together, and keep the key and notes visible only when I request them. The archive is beneath the magistrate’s offices.
The magistrate’s archive lies behind an iron-banded door below the eastern offices. Dust seals the brass lock, and old wards glimmer faintly across the stone lintel.

The Records Clerk
The key should open the cabinet inside. Corven used that compartment for records Brant wanted changed or removed.
The brass key turns with a reluctant click. Within the archive, shelves sag beneath patrol books and seizure ledgers, while a dust-sealed cabinet waits against the far wall.

Captain Vey
There. The targeted patrol records. Clerk, identify the cabinet seal before anyone opens it.
The clerk points to the lower compartment. Three notes bear different official seals, and a narrow section of dust near the hinge has been recently disturbed, revealing that someone accessed it before them.
“I reach for all three notes and hand one to Vey and Tessa”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -2)

Pando reaches across the dusty cabinet shelf and gathers all three sealed notes. The disturbed hinge gives a sharp click, and a faint ward-light flickers across the lintel.
The flare stings through Pando’s bandaged palm and leaves a thin line of blood beneath the linen, but the notes remain intact in his grasp.
Pando hands one sealed note to Captain Vey and another to Tessa, retaining the third. The three documents bear distinct official seals and Corven’s private mark.

Captain Vey
Good. Keep the third sealed. I will examine mine without breaking the mark until we know whether these seals carry any further warding.

Tessa
This one is addressed to the seizure clerk’s office. The seal matches the mark on the record pages.

The Records Clerk
That is Corven’s hand in the address. He used those notes to tell Brant which records were to disappear.

Captain Vey
The ward-flare may have alerted someone above. Guards, secure the cabinet and watch the stair. We have the evidence, and now we must preserve it.

“I examine the the sealed note carefully looking for anything useful”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled -1)

Pando turns the sealed note beneath the archive’s dim ward-light, examining its vellum, folded edges, wax, and the faint impressions pressed into its surface.

Pando
The fold marks show this note was opened and resealed before.
He finds a second impression beneath Corven’s private seal: a smaller magistrate’s sign, partially scraped away, and a date matching the night Tessa was accused.
Along the lower edge, pressure from hidden writing remains visible. Angling the note toward the ward-light reveals three names impressed into the vellum: Brant, Corven, and Bailiff Hadrik.

Captain Vey
That gives us another accomplice. Bailiff Hadrik can control prisoners, warrants, and the movement of seized evidence.

The Records Clerk
Hadrik carried Corven’s sealed orders to the holding cells. If his name is here, the accusation against Tessa was coordinated from the magistrate’s office.

Tessa
Then we know where the corruption reaches next. I will give my statement, and I will name every record they tried to bury.
“"Now that we know the all the officers, well need a plan, I suggest Tessa and I should go after Corven while Captin, you go after the Hadrik" I look towards Captain Vey”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled +0)

Pando
Now that we know all the officers, we need a plan. Tessa and I should go after Corven while you go after Hadrik.
Pando turns toward Captain Vey, keeping the sealed notes and brass key visible between them. Tessa stands beside him, ready to give her statement under the captain’s protection.

Captain Vey
Agreed. Corven will move records or summon help once he learns the archive was opened. You and Tessa will find him before he can destroy anything.

The Records Clerk
Corven keeps a private office above the magistrate’s archive. Hadrik usually carries his orders from there to the holding cells.

Tessa
I will go with Pando. I can identify the seizure records and name every page Corven ordered buried.

Captain Vey
Then it is settled. I will take two guards and confront Bailiff Hadrik at the holding cells. Bring Corven’s papers back intact if you can.
Vey divides the evidence, keeping the key and one sealed note for Hadrik’s inquiry while giving Pando the directions to Corven’s office. Tessa moves to his side.

Pando
Alright, to the archives then. Let’s go, Tessa.
Pando turns toward the archive passage with Tessa at his side. Captain Vey keeps the key and sealed note secured while her guards prepare to leave for the holding cells.

Tessa
I am with you. Corven’s office is above us, and I will recognize the records he ordered buried.

Captain Vey
Stay together, and preserve every paper you find. I will meet you again at the archive entrance when Hadrik is secured.
Vey leads her guards toward the stairwell branching to the holding cells. Pando and Tessa take the narrower archive passage, where dust lies thick beneath the magistrate’s offices.

The Records Clerk
The stair at the end rises directly to Corven’s private office. His cabinet should contain the orders that connect him to Brant and Hadrik.
Tessa follows Pando through the dim passage, keeping the identified records close beneath her vest. Ahead, a locked oak door bears the magistrate’s seal and a narrow brass plate marked Corven.
“I look through the key hole of the door”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +2)

Pando bends to the brass keyhole, angling one mismatched eye toward the dark slit. Dust scratches his cheek as the warded door remains silent beneath his hand.
Through the keyhole, he sees Corven’s private office: a narrow desk, stacked ledgers, and a wall cabinet crowded with sealed folders bearing the magistrate’s mark.
A lamp burns inside despite the hour. Corven, a thin middle-aged man in a burgundy robe, with a narrow sallow face and receding dark hair, stands at the desk with ink-stained fingers and a silver signet ring.

Tessa
Is he there? If that is Corven, I can identify the seizure records before he moves them.
Corven opens a drawer and removes a bundle of papers tied in black cord. Beneath them lies a familiar ledger page, its torn edge matching Orlan’s evidence.

Tessa
That page belongs to the baker’s ledger. He kept it here, along with the orders against me.
Corven pauses and glances toward the door. His hand closes around the silver signet as footsteps sound faintly below, while the incriminating bundle remains exposed on the desk.
“I get up quickly and kick the door open”
FAILURE (Great Strength, rolled -3)
Pando rises sharply and drives his boot into the locked oak door. The impact shudders through the passage, but the ward flares blue-white and throws him back a step.
The brass lock remains intact, though the magistrate’s seal splits across the wood in a jagged line. Dust spills from the lintel, and Pando’s bandaged palm throbs.

Tessa
The ward caught the force. The seal is damaged now, but the door is still holding.

Corven
Who is outside? Guards, come at once! The archive thieves have found my office.
Inside, Corven snatches the black-corded bundle and the torn ledger page from the desk. His silver signet flashes as he retreats toward the cabinet.

Tessa
He is moving the evidence. The cracked seal may have weakened the ward, but another kick will not open it cleanly.
A narrow gap opens where the seal split, revealing the lock’s inner pins and a thread of ward-light. The door has become vulnerable to careful manipulation, not brute force.

Pando rises sharply and drives his boot into the locked oak door. The ward flares blue-white, throwing him back as the magistrate’s seal splits across the wood.

Inside, Corven snatches the black-corded bundle and torn ledger page from the desk. His silver signet flashes as he retreats toward the cabinet.

Tessa
He is moving the evidence. The cracked seal weakened the ward, though the lock may yield if you work through the gap.
The blue-white flare fades into a trembling line across the door. The exposed pins remain reachable, but the ward now crawls toward the latch whenever the wood shifts.
“I get up quickly and kick the door open”
FAILURE (Great Strength, rolled -1)
Pando’s kick strikes the oak again, but the wounded ward folds the force back through the door. Blue-white light clamps across the split seal, sealing the exposed gap.
The lock’s inner pins snap into a new pattern beneath the ward-light. The door remains closed, and the cracked seal can no longer be worked through by hand.

Corven
You will not break into my office. The records are protected by magistrate’s law, and your trespass will be punished.

Tessa
He is buying time. The cabinet is behind him, and he still has the ledger page. We need to make him open the door or force him to show what he carries.
Inside, Corven thrusts the black-corded bundle beneath his robe and grips the torn page in his other hand. The cabinet door stands open behind him.

Corven
Leave now, and I may call this a misunderstanding. Stay, and I will accuse you of attacking a magistrate’s office.

SUCCESS (Fair Innate Spellcasting, rolled +3)

Pando peers through the keyhole again. Beyond the warded pins, Corven stands before the open cabinet, clutching the torn ledger page while black-corded papers vanish beneath his robe.
Pando draws on his shadow focus. Darkness gathers at the keyhole, threads through the split seal, and folds his body into a narrow passage between one breath and the next.
He emerges inside Corven’s office beside the desk. The ward-light remains trapped across the door, while the cabinet, the black-corded bundle, and the torn page are all within reach.

Corven
What sorcery is this? You were outside the door. Guards, seize him before he touches the records!
Corven backs toward the cabinet, raising the ledger page defensively. His silver signet catches the lamplight, and hurried footsteps begin climbing the stair beyond the sealed door.

Tessa
Pando is inside. Corven, put the page down and open the cabinet fully. Captain Vey will hear every word you say.
The office is cramped but clear: desk between Pando and Corven, cabinet behind the magistrate’s aide, and the incriminating bundle hidden only beneath his robe.
“I quickly snatch the page and records out of corven's hand”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Pando crosses the cramped space in a blur of shadow, catches the torn ledger page before Corven can pull it away, and tears the black-corded bundle from beneath his robe.
The seizure jars Pando’s bandaged palm against the desk. Pain flashes through the wound, and a fresh line of blood stains the linen, but the page and records remain firmly in his grasp.

Corven
Thief! You have stolen magistrate property from my office. Guards, break through that door and seize him!
Corven stumbles against the open cabinet, empty-handed now. His silver signet strikes the wood with a sharp crack as heavy footsteps gather beyond the sealed door.

Tessa
Pando has the evidence. Corven, step away from the cabinet and explain why you kept the baker’s ledger page.
The black cord has loosened during the snatch, exposing patrol orders, seizure lists, and Corven’s private mark. The torn page matches Orlan’s proof exactly beneath the office lamp.

Pando thrusts the torn ledger page and loosened black-corded bundle toward Tessa. She takes both securely, pressing them beneath her vest while the exposed records remain visible.

Tessa
I have them. The page matches Orlan’s proof, and these orders bear Corven’s mark. He cannot bury them now.
Before Corven can reach the cabinet, Pando drives him away from it and forces him down onto the floor. The magistrate’s aide lands hard, pinned beneath Pando’s controlled weight.

Corven
Get off me! Guards, break the door and arrest him! He is attacking an officer of the magistrate!
Corven struggles beneath Pando, but the cramped floor gives him no leverage. His silver signet scrapes the boards, while footsteps pound against the warded door.

Tessa
Pando has restrained him. Captain Vey will see the papers before anyone can change them. Corven, stop resisting and answer for the ledger.
The sealed door shudders under a heavy blow. Inside, Tessa guards the evidence, Corven remains pinned, and the office holds the proof of his alliance with Brant and Hadrik.

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Pando
Now tell us, what are you dealing with Brant?
Pando raises his fist above Corven without striking. The gesture makes the office silent, but his bandaged palm pulls open against the floor, and fresh blood darkens the linen.

Corven
Brant brought me names and accusations. I altered patrol records, prepared seizure orders, and sent instructions through Hadrik. In return, Brant kept troublesome witnesses helpless and delivered anything valuable that the watch seized.
The admission carries through the cramped office and into the stairwell. The warded door shudders again, but the guards outside hear enough to fall briefly quiet.

Corven
Tessa was selected because no one important would defend her. Brant promised the magistrate’s office a clean arrest, and I promised him records that would make the lie official.

Tessa
You knew the accusation was false before they dragged me to the square.

Corven
Yes. I knew, and I signed the orders anyway. The papers beneath your vest prove it, and my words have now confirmed the arrangement.

Pando
We’ve heard enough. Let’s get you to Captain Vey.
Pando lowers his fist, shifts his weight, and hauls Corven upright from the floor. The magistrate’s aide struggles briefly, then hangs rigidly in Pando’s grasp.

Corven
You cannot drag me before Vey like a common criminal. I am an officer of the magistrate.
The warded door shudders once more. Outside, Captain Maela Vey’s voice cuts through the stairwell, ordering the guards to stand clear and preserve the office.

Captain Vey
Open the door and bring Corven out. His confession, the papers, and the ledger page will be secured under my seal.
The ward-light withdraws from the latch at Vey’s command. Pando carries Corven through the opened doorway, while Tessa follows with the black-corded records pressed safely beneath her vest.

Captain Vey
Set him against the wall, Pando. Corven, you will repeat your confession before witnesses, and then answer for every order bearing your mark.
“I shove Corven towards the wall”
SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled -3)

Pando shoves Corven toward the wall. The aide strikes it hard enough to rattle the corridor stones, and Pando’s bandaged palm tears open against Corven’s robe, staining the cloth with fresh blood.

Corven
You will answer for this assault. Captain, you cannot let a drow handle an officer of the magistrate this way.
Corven remains pinned upright against the wall, his silver signet scraping the stone. The noise draws every guard’s attention, but none moves while Captain Vey holds up one commanding hand.

Captain Vey
He has placed you where I ordered. Stay there, Corven. Guards, witness his condition and keep the stair clear.

Tessa
The papers are secure, Captain. His confession names Brant and Hadrik, and the ledger page proves the accusation against me was prepared.

Captain Vey
Then we proceed under seal. Corven, repeat the confession now, beginning with who gave you the names and who received the altered records.
Blood slips beneath Pando’s loosened bandage and drops onto the stone. Corven looks from the stain to Vey’s witnesses, realizing the wall offers no authority to hide behind.

Pando fixes his mismatched gaze on Corven’s eyes and holds it there. The corridor noise recedes beneath the quiet pressure of the stare, while blood darkens his bandage.

Corven
You think staring makes you frightening? I have served the magistrate longer than you have drawn breath.
Corven’s defiance falters as Pando does not look away. His fingers loosen against the stone, and the silver signet stops scraping.

Captain Vey
Answer the question, Corven. Who gave you the names, and who received the altered records?

Corven
Brant gave me the names. Hadrik received the orders for the cells, and the clerk entered the changes. We divided the work.

Tessa
And the magistrate’s aide who warned Brant? You said the office was involved. Name that person too.

Corven
Magistrate’s aide Loras. He carried messages from the upper office and warned us whenever Captain Vey began asking questions.

SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +1)

Pando pushes Corven toward the nearby guards. The aide stumbles into their waiting hands, and they seize his arms, keeping him upright against the corridor wall.

Captain Vey
Secure Corven. Do not let him speak with anyone alone, and search him for keys, notes, or seals.
The guards bind Corven’s wrists and take his silver signet. Pando turns toward Captain Vey, his posture sagging as blood seeps through the bandage around his palm.

Captain Vey
Pando, sit before you fall. Your hand has reopened, and you have done enough exerting yourself for now.

Corven
You cannot treat me like a common prisoner. Loras will deny everything, and the magistrate will punish you for this intrusion.

Captain Vey
That threat is noted. Guards, send a messenger for Magistrate’s aide Loras, but keep him separated from every record and witness.

Tessa
I will stay with Pando while you question Corven. His confession names Loras, and my statement will show exactly how their records were used against me.
“I take a seat on the ground and inspect my bloodied hand "this curse is getting worse."”
SUCCESS (Good Medicine, rolled +0)

Pando lowers himself onto the archive floor and holds his injured hand beneath the corridor light. Blood has soaked through the bandage in narrow, dark lines.

Pando
This curse is getting worse.
He unwinds the outer linen and inspects the reopened cut. The wound is shallow, but black-red traces cling to its edges instead of washing away with the blood.

Tessa
It is spreading along the wound. Do not summon the blade, and do not let anyone pressure you into using the curse again.

Captain Vey
Tessa is right. Sit still, Pando. I will have the guards bring clean water and fresh linen before Loras arrives.
Captain Maela Vey kneels beside him without touching the marked blood. She studies the dark traces, then looks toward the guarded Corven and the sealed records.

Tessa
You exposed Brant, Corven, and Hadrik while protecting my statement. Let me help bind your hand before the next witness comes.
“I try my best to reclaim all my lost blood and restore my vitality with it”
FAILURE (Mediocre Innate Spellcasting, rolled -2)
Pando steadies his injured hand beneath the corridor light and draws inward on every spilled drop. The blood on the stones trembles, then crawls toward him in thin black-red threads.
The returning blood reaches his palm, but the curse catches unevenly. Some threads sink into the wound, while others knot beneath the skin and refuse to become vitality.

Tessa
Stop pulling. It is not gathering cleanly, and the dark traces are spreading farther up your hand.
Pando draws harder. The scattered blood lifts from the floor and folds into his palm, but the effort leaves his arm shaking and his breath shallow.

Captain Vey
Enough. You reclaimed some of it, but you have not restored your strength. Release the rest before the curse tightens around the wound.
The final threads refuse his command and harden into a dark seam along his palm. The bleeding slows, yet his vitality remains drained, while the curse now binds the wound closed.

Tessa
The blood is held, not healed. Let me wrap it before that seam spreads, and do not try to call the rest back.
✓ Quest Accepted
Confront Magistrate’s aide Loras
“I try my best to reclaim all my lost blood and restore my vitality with it”
FAILURE (Mediocre Innate Spellcasting, rolled +1)

The dark seam seals the cut but leaves Pando’s vitality thin and uneven. The blood he reclaimed remains trapped in the wound, no longer answering his command as living strength.

Tessa
Do not pull at it again. The seam is holding the blood in place, but it is not restoring you.
Tessa takes the clean linen from Captain Vey and wraps Pando’s palm firmly, covering the black-red seam without pressing it. The binding dulls its faint pulse.

Captain Vey
Your curse has shown us a boundary. It can reclaim blood, but restoration requires more than force. We need someone who understands cursed healing.

Tessa
The mark may be able to hold what his curse cannot use, if I can guide the blood without letting it tighten around him.
As Tessa steadies the bandage, her angular mark warms in response. A thin red-black line travels from the seam toward her marked knuckles, then stops without crossing the skin.

Tessa
There may be another way. I can feel the trapped blood answering the mark, but I need to draw it carefully instead of letting you reclaim it alone.
“"Then let us try together."”
SUCCESS (Mediocre Innate Spellcasting, rolled +3)

Pando
Then let us try together.
Pando rests his wrapped palm against Tessa’s marked knuckles. He draws inward gently while she guides the trapped blood toward the angular mark, matching his pull with her own careful focus.

Tessa
Slowly. Let the mark receive it. Do not command it back into yourself.
The black-red seam loosens beneath the linen. A narrow thread passes through the bond and settles into Tessa’s mark without tearing skin or reopening the wound.

Tessa
It is moving. The mark is holding what your curse could not use, and the pressure in your hand is easing.
The trapped blood leaves Pando’s wound in a controlled stream and gathers within the angular symbol. His palm remains weak, but the dark seam fades to a clean, closed line.

Captain Vey
That worked. Tessa, keep the mark still, and Pando, rest your hand. We have found a method that preserves you instead of spending more of you.

“I start to relax a little feeling a little at ease”
Pando lets his shoulders ease and keeps his wrapped palm resting against Tessa’s marked knuckles. The room’s tension softens with him, leaving only quiet breathing and lamplight.

Tessa
That is better. You do not have to hold everything alone for this moment. The mark is steady, and your hand is closed.
Tessa lowers their joined hands carefully, supporting the bandaged palm without disturbing the clean linen. The black-red seam remains hidden and still beneath it.

Captain Vey
Rest while you can, Pando. The evidence is secured, Corven is guarded, and no one will demand another effort from you yet.
Captain Vey rises and gestures for the nearest guard to remain by the corridor. Beyond the doorway, muted orders continue, but none intrudes on the quiet space around Pando and Tessa.

Tessa
He is still hurt, but the curse has stopped tightening. For now, I can keep the mark calm and let him breathe.
The moment settles into something gentler than the archive’s struggle. Tessa remains beside Pando, her hand warm beneath his, while Captain Vey waits for his strength to return.
“I close my eyes to take a nap”
Pando closes his eyes and settles against the archive wall, keeping his wrapped palm supported in Tessa’s hands. His breathing gradually slows beneath the steady lamplight.

Pando
The linen is firm, and the seam is no longer pulling.
Tessa adjusts her grip by a fraction, careful not to disturb the bandage. The angular mark remains warm but quiet against Pando’s palm.

Tessa
Sleep for a little while. I will keep the mark steady, and Captain Vey will keep the corridor clear.
Pando drifts into a light nap as muted footsteps pass beyond the doorway. No one enters, and the secured records remain undisturbed under Captain Maela Vey’s seal.

Captain Vey
Let him rest. When he wakes, we will decide how to proceed with Loras and the magistrate’s office.
“While asleep, I try to sense the curse from within my body in a dream”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)
In sleep, Pando descends through a dream of dark water and finds the curse threaded through his veins, coiled around the closed wound in his palm.

Pando
It is not in the blood alone. It is listening from inside me.
The curse reveals itself as a red-black lattice beneath his skin, drawing strength from pain and answering the distant warmth of Tessa’s mark.
When Pando reaches toward its center, the lattice opens. He senses its hunger, its instinct to forge and reclaim, and the boundary where it stops obeying him.
The knowledge arrives whole, but holding it leaves his will scraped thin. In the waking room, his breathing catches and his fingers hesitate against Tessa’s steady hands.

Tessa
Pando? Stay with me. The mark is quiet, but you are trembling.
“I try to reach out to understand the curse”
SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled +1)
Pando reaches inward through the dream’s dark water, following the red-black lattice beneath his skin until its pattern becomes intelligible.
He understands the curse’s three impulses: forge blood into form, reclaim what it has shaped, and draw strength from pain when commanded. Its obedience ends where hunger begins.
The understanding settles completely, but the attempt consumes time and attention. One crucial detail remains uncertain: what first teaches the hunger to awaken without his command.

Pando
The boundary is real, but I do not know what crosses it.
Pando wakes against the archive wall, his wrapped palm supported by Tessa. His breath steadies, though the dream’s lattice remains sharply remembered.

Tessa
You are awake. Tell me what you found, but slowly. The mark is still quiet.

Captain Vey
Whatever you learned, record it before questioning Loras. Knowledge about a curse is evidence too, especially when its limits remain untested.

“With a little bit more understanding, I try to forge a new blade, that takes shape of a longsword”
FAILURE (Mediocre Innate Spellcasting, rolled +0)

Pando keeps his wrapped palm supported in Tessa’s hands and reaches inward, guiding the curse toward a new form. The lattice stirs beneath the clean linen.
A red-black thread slips from the seam and gathers above his palm. He lengthens it, shaping a broad blade, a guarded hilt, and the first suggestion of a longsword.
The form buckles before the blade can finish. Its length twists unevenly, the hilt collapsing into a crooked mass before the whole shape folds back into Tessa’s quiet mark.

Tessa
Stop there. It did not fail like the dagger. The mark caught the shape before it could become stable.
Pando’s palm remains closed beneath the linen, but a dark angular outline now rests beside Tessa’s existing mark. It feels dormant rather than obedient.

Captain Vey
Record that result. The curse can reach for a larger form, but forcing the pattern through the mark leaves it incomplete.

Pando
The mark retained the sword’s shape, but the blade never formed.
“I start to stand up "I will learn the truth to this curse but for now, let's focus of confronting Loras."”

Pando plants his uninjured hand against the archive wall and rises carefully. His wrapped palm stays supported until he is fully upright, the unfinished sword-shape dormant beneath the linen.

Pando
I will learn the truth of this curse, but for now, let us focus on confronting Loras.

Captain Vey
Agreed. Loras carries messages from the upper office, and he may know who else protected Brant and Corven.
Captain Vey gathers the sealed notes and motions to the guards. Corven remains secured nearby, while Tessa keeps the recovered papers close beneath her vest.

Tessa
I will stand with you. I can identify the seizure records, and I will give my statement before Loras has a chance to reshape anything.

Captain Vey
Then we move to the upper office together. Pando, keep your hand still. Truth will serve us better than another display of the curse.
Pando steadies himself beside Tessa as Captain Vey leads them toward the stair. The archive remains sealed behind them, and the magistrate’s upper offices wait above.
“"So we've caught Brant, Corven and Hadrik, and now we go after Loras." I say while following Captain Vey”

Pando
So we have caught Brant, Corven, and Hadrik, and now we go after Loras.
Pando follows Captain Vey up the magistrate’s stair, keeping his wrapped palm still. Tessa stays close with the recovered papers secured beneath her vest.

Captain Vey
Yes. Loras carried warnings from the upper office, and he may identify whoever else shielded Brant and Corven.
Two guards accompany them past the archive landing. At the upper corridor, a young adult man in a dark clerk’s coat steps from a side office, thin-faced and dark-haired, with a brass seal-chain at his collar.

Captain Vey
Loras, remain where you are. You are being questioned under my authority regarding messages sent to Sergeant Brant.

Loras
Captain Vey, I was carrying official instructions. I have done nothing outside the magistrate’s orders.
Vey stops between Loras and the stair, while the guards secure the corridor behind them. Tessa brings the recovered papers forward, ready to identify the records Loras helped bury.
