Breath of Water Beneath the Roots

Moonlight bleaches the clearing white. The tag lies in the grass, the demon’s body still, and the last echoes of combat fade into the trees.

Then the canopy stirs. A new figure drops through the branches and lands without a sound, armor glinting, blade angled low.

Zoro bristles and steps in front of the villager, while the villager recoils behind the dog, eyes fixed on the cursed sword.

Kamado Tanjiro shifts his stance, keeps the ledger close, and faces the newcomer squarely.

The air tightens. Yoshimitsu’s blade hums, and the moonlit grass flattens under the pressure of his first coiled step.

Tanjiro steps in, and the first exchange is all steel and breath. Yoshimitsu’s cursed blade meets his Nichirin flash, then slides off line as Tanjiro turns the clash into a lethal opening.

He closes the distance before the Manji leader can reset. One clean cut drives through the guard, and Yoshimitsu staggers as his own momentum betrays him.

The cursed sword dips. Tanjiro follows through, and Yoshimitsu falls hard into the trampled grass, his predatory calm breaking at last.

Zoro snaps tighter in front of the villager, but the threat that had him bristling is gone from its feet. The wooden tag remains untouched between the fighters.

Moonlight catches on Yoshimitsu’s fallen blade while the forest holds its breath. Tanjiro stands over him, sword ready, as the villager’s relief returns in a shaky flood.
