Breath of Water Beneath the Roots

Kamado Tanjiro bursts out under the roots and drops the rescued villager onto damp grass. Dust spills from the split tunnel behind him, and the forest air feels suddenly wider, colder.

Then that murderous pressure slams down through the trees. A demon steps into moonlight, arms loose, smile cruel, eyes burning with challenge.

A small black-and-white Shiba Inu trots into the clearing, bandana fluttering, katana clenched in its mouth. It plants itself between Tanjiro and the demon without hesitation.

The demon’s grin widens at the sight of the dog, then narrows toward Tanjiro. The tunnel mouth trembles at their backs, still hiding the abducted villagers below.

Zoro shifts its stance, sword ready, while Tanjiro squares up beside it. Above and below, the same enemy closes the net.

Tanjiro shifts his footing and snaps into motion, his blade tracing the first bright arc of Hinokami Kagura. Heat seems to bloom in the cold moonlight as he drives straight at Akaza.

The demon meets the strike with a grin and a sharp turn of his body, but Tanjiro’s timing lands clean. The slash forces Akaza back a step, and sparks scatter across the grass.

The force of the exchange tears a line through Tanjiro’s sleeve and stings his shoulder, a small cut opening warm against the night air. The wooden tag at his side knocks hard against the box as he follows through.

Zoro darts in front of the rescued villager, blade leveled, while Tanjiro settles into the end of the form. Akaza stands in the moonlit grass, amused, but now watching the pair with focused interest.

Tanjiro lets the first form settle into a tight spiral, then turns it inward. His blade hums through the moonlit air in a continuous circle, water-charged and steady, no wasted motion.

The circling pressure meets Akaza head-on, forcing the demon’s advance to break. Grass flattens beneath the passing current, and the space between them turns into a whirling barrier of steel and force.

Zoro stays planted before the villager as the air shivers from the clash. The rescued villager ducks lower, but the opening Tanjiro creates keeps the demon from slipping through toward them.

Tanjiro’s sweep finishes cleanly, the current of his form stilling only after Akaza has been driven off his line. The demon’s smile sharpens, but the route to the villager remains sealed by Tanjiro’s blade.
