The tag’s markings match the demon’s skin, same angles, same ritual script. This is not a keepsake. It is a tally mark, a hunter’s ledger for the warlord’s daughter.

The villager stares past the light toward the forest edge, fear turning to grim understanding. Zoro stays planted between Tanjiro and Akaza, hackles raised, while the demon’s smile thins into something colder.

Tanjiro cuts through the opening with one final, direct stroke. The blade takes Akaza at the head, and the demon’s grin snaps into a sharp, stunned recoil.

Zoro lands between them with a hard, braced stop, keeping the demon from surging straight through the ring. The villager stays inside the clearing, eyes fixed on the airborne tag, as if afraid to blink.

Moonlight flashes off the carved marks as the tag drops out of the spin, proof exposed for every watcher in the clearing. Akaza’s hand hovers, torn between the fallen evidence and Tanjiro’s blade.

Tanjiro follows through without hesitation, the blade line snapping clean and sure toward Akaza’s neck.

The strike lands. Akaza’s head is cut off from the thrust of the fight, his body jolting in a violent break from its own momentum.

The demon’s reaching hand falls short of the tag, and the proof drops clear of his grasp into the grass between them.

Zoro holds the line, paws dug in, as the villager recoils at the sudden stop in Akaza’s assault.

For one sharp beat, the clearing goes still, the moonlight catching on the carved marks while the threat hangs broken in front of them.
