Sealing the Rift of OakhavenGraveyard of Oakhaven
Sealing the Rift of Oakhaven

The graveyard of Oakhaven shakes as if the earth itself intends to swallow the mausoleum. Violet light pulses rhythmically from the fissure, bathing the headstones in a sickly, unnatural hue that makes the very air feel heavy and metallic.

Gedwyn

Gedwyn

Push, Xarsthos! If this rift tears open, the silence of the grave will be the least of our worries!

Gedwyn

Gedwyn

If that light touches the village, there will be nothing left but salt and shadows. I cannot let my failure become Oakhaven's funeral shroud.

Xarsthos

Xarsthos

Stay steady, Gedwyn! I am applying the leverage now!

Xarsthos

Xarsthos

The stones are screaming, but they will hold. I have faced kings of war and beasts of ruin. A leaking tomb will not break my resolve.

Xarsthos plants his boots into the churned dirt, his muscles coiled like steel cables. He throws his entire weight against the slab, forcing the heavy masonry to slide across the uneven threshold, grinding against the violet glow with a sound like shattering glass.

Seal the rift in the Oakhaven graveyard

I push with all my might can offer

FAILURE (Good Strength, rolled +0)

Sealing the Rift of Oakhaven

The slab screams as it grinds against the stone, but the rift pulses with a sudden, violent expansion. A shockwave of violet force erupts from the fissure, turning the heavy masonry into a jagged weapon that slides backward, pinning Xarsthos against the frigid gate. The stone bites deep into his shoulder, and the ground beneath his feet gives way to a widening sinkhole of swirling shadow.

Gedwyn

Gedwyn

No! Xarsthos, if you let go, the tomb collapses and we are both buried with the rot!

Gedwyn

Gedwyn

The blade is humming with power, but it is cold. So cold. Is it fueling the rift or fighting it?

Xarsthos

Xarsthos

My grip holds, Gedwyn! The earth fights, but I am the anchor!

Xarsthos

Xarsthos

My strength is spent on the stone, but the rift is pulling the very soul from the air. If I cannot slide this slab into place, I must find another way to seal this tear before the light devours us both.

Seal the rift before the graveyard collapses

I look around and find a metal pipe. Knowing this is my only chance, I reach for it to use as leverage to close the door

SUCCESS (Good Strength, rolled +3)

Sealing the Rift of Oakhaven

Xarsthos lunges, his fingers locking around a discarded iron drainage pipe protruding from the churned earth. He jams the cold metal into the gap between the masonry and the stone threshold, his muscles corded with the strain of his draconic lineage. With a roar that echoes against the encroaching shadows, he heaves. The slab shudders, then screams as it pivots on its base. The violet light flares, desperate and discordant, as the tomb door slams shut with a bone-jarring thud.

Gedwyn

Gedwyn

You did it! The air... it feels still again.

Xarsthos

Xarsthos

The pressure is gone, but the iron pipe is bent into a U-shape. This magic, it leaves a lingering sting in my marrow.

The ground ceases its violent trembling, leaving only the sound of heavy, ragged breathing in the sudden silence of the graveyard.

Escort Gedwyn safely out of the crumbling graveyard

I escort Gedwyn out of the graveyard. But not before I retrieve the ultimate sword of combat the specter dropped upon its defeat

SUCCESS (Legendary Athletics, rolled +3)

Sealing the Rift of Oakhaven

Xarsthos steps over the shifting silt toward the center of the clearing. The spectral knight lies in a pile of grey ash, but the blade it carried remains. The weapon pulses with a rhythm that matches the dying heart of the rift, its edge keen enough to slice the very air. As he reaches down, the steel vibrates, humming against his calloused palm before he pulls it free.

Gedwyn

Gedwyn

That sword... it is cursed, Xarsthos. We need to leave before the ground decides to finish what it started.

Xarsthos

Xarsthos

This blade has seen ages of slaughter, yet it feels lighter than my own steel. It thirsts for something, and I intend to keep it sharp until I find out what.

Xarsthos grips the hilt tightly, the metal settling into his palm as if recognizing a new master. He turns toward the crumbling perimeter of the graveyard, offering a firm hand to the trembling tavern keeper to guide him toward the edge of the collapsing sinkhole.
