Xarsthos steps off the final stair into a circular chamber of damp stone and glowing fungi. Amber light shivers across slick walls, and the air tastes of moss and iron. Somewhere deeper, the warlord's horn still thuds through the earth.
At the chamber's center, a waist-high pedestal holds a rusted iron key. It vibrates hard enough to hum against the chamber floor, as if answering the distant call.

The Hooded Figure
Take it. That key opens what the warlord fears most, and what he wants hidden.

Xarsthos
The key is tied to the horn.
The Hooded Figure keeps close, violet veins bright beneath the cowl, while the fungi pulse once, then dim, like a breath held too long.

The Hooded Figure
Hurry. If his hounds reach the rootway, Oakhaven loses its last chance.
+ Scene Quest Added
Obtain the rusted iron key
“I grab for the key and it is on my grasp”
SUCCESS (Fair Agility, rolled +4)
Xarsthos closes his fingers around the key in one clean motion, lifting it from the pedestal as the hum jumps into his hand. Cold rust bites his palm, then goes still. The chamber seems to inhale with him.
The Hooded Figure recoils a half-step, cowl tilting toward the deeper root tunnels. The fungi flare amber, then gutter low, as if the chamber has noticed the theft.

The Hooded Figure
Good. Now listen carefully. The horn is not calling soldiers, it is waking the thing this key seals.
A faint tremor runs through the stone floor. Dust sifts from the ceiling in a thin, nervous rain, and somewhere beyond the chamber, a dull answering thud rolls back through the roots.

The Hooded Figure
If Oakhaven is to survive, you carry that key where he cannot follow.

Xarsthos
The key is warm now, and lighter than it looked.
The Hooded Figure points into the dark opening ahead, urgency sharpening into command.

The Hooded Figure
Will you go below the old roots now, or wait for the horn to find you?
