SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

The Abbot's Interrogation

The Abbot paces before the high arched window, his shadow stretching long across the cold stone floor. He stops, his gaze shifting from the open door to the ornate iron key resting on his desk. He turns, his brow furrowed in deep suspicion.

The air is heavy with the scent of old parchment and judgment. If he sees even a tremor in my hands, Wulfric is lost. I must be the vessel of his penance.

Abbot

Abbot

You were seen near the lower cloisters, boy. Why were you lingering there while Brother Wulfric was meant to be at his prayers?

Timothy

Timothy

I was merely fulfilling my duties, Father. I brought him the water he requested for his vigil. He remains as devoted to his discipline as ever.

Timothy

Timothy

He is testing my resolve, watching for the slightest flicker of deceit in my eyes. I will not break.

Abbot

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

The Abbot's Suspicion

Timothy bows his head, his movements fluid and precise as he lifts the heavy iron key from the desk. He turns toward the door with an economy of motion that belies his nervous tension.

Timothy

The key is cold against my palm. Every step must be measured. If I hurry too much, I appear guilty. If I am too slow, I invite his wrath.

He slips into the hallway, his boots making no sound on the worn flagstones. He rounds the corner, vanishing from the Abbot’s sight before the man can track his path. He reaches the records room door, the wood groaning slightly as he fits the ornate key into the lock. It turns with a crisp, metallic click. The room beyond is a dark tomb of ink and silence, save for the single ledger resting atop a central podium, bathed in a sliver of moonlight.

Timothy

Timothy

Wulfric, I am coming. I hope the ledger holds the truth you promised, or my suffering will have been in vain.
