The dark espresso machines remain behind as Cybil and Ember leave Saturn Shop and Sip. They follow the campus edge toward a small tea counter glowing beneath a striped awning.
The counter is narrow and welcoming, with glass jars of loose tea and two stools beside the window. A handwritten menu confirms they can serve Earl Grey, even if Saturn cannot.

Ember
There it is. Our tea-party test run can begin with the tea, even if the sandwiches have to wait for another day.
As Ember studies the menu, Cybil’s phone vibrates. A message from Saturn’s staff asks whether she can return sooner than expected because the outage has disrupted the shift.

Ember
That sounds like they genuinely need you, not like you did anything wrong. We can take the drinks with us, or decide what helps most.
The tea counter worker sets two empty cups near the register and waits without interrupting. Campus traffic murmurs beyond the awning while the unanswered message brightens Cybil’s screen.

Ember
You get to choose, Cybil. I can come back with you, stay here, or help carry the tea wherever you decide to go.

Return to Saturn Shop and Sip to cover the disrupted shift
“Um, I'm sorry Ember, I want to hang out with you but I really need this job so I think I should head back. Can we get the tea to go?”

cybil
I’m sorry, Ember. I want to hang out with you, but I really need this job, so I think I should head back. Can we get the tea to go?

Ember
You don’t have to apologize. Yes, let’s get it to go, and I’ll walk back with you.
The tea counter worker nods and reaches for two lidded cups. Ember closes the ingredient note on her phone, then steps aside so the order can be prepared without delay.

Tea Counter Worker
Two Earl Greys to go. I’ll have them ready in just a moment.
The worker secures the cups with cardboard sleeves and passes them across the counter. Cybil has both teas in hand, and the shop’s waiting shift is no longer left hanging.

Ember
There. Tea for the walk, work when we arrive, and our cucumber sandwiches can wait for a day when neither of us is being pulled in two directions.
Ember holds the door beneath the striped awning and falls into step beside Cybil. Together they head back toward Saturn Shop and Sip, the warm cups steady between them.

“Ember what animal would you want to be if you weren't a person? I think I'd want to be a rich lady's beloved little dog, it seems like a pretty easy life with lots of love and treats.”

Ember, what animal would you want to be if you weren’t a person? I think I’d want to be a rich lady’s beloved little dog. It seems like a pretty easy life with lots of love and treats.
The two women continue toward Saturn Shop and Sip, warm Earl Grey cups in hand. Ember glances sideways at Cybil, her smile turning thoughtful beneath the striped awning’s fading shade.

Ember
Honestly? A spoiled house cat. I’d want a sunny windowsill, someone who adored me, and the confidence to leave any room the moment I got bored.
Ember lifts her cup carefully as campus traffic parts around them. Her answer carries the same bright confidence she brings to crowded rooms, though her eyes stay warmly on Cybil.

Ember
Your dog answer makes sense, though. Beloved, well-fed, and carried around like you’re the most important creature in the world. That sounds pretty wonderful.
The cosmic sign appears ahead through the trees. The shop’s dim windows promise a disrupted shift, but the walk has given their tea and conversation a gentler rhythm.
“You would be such a great cat ember, you are so confident and graceful. I thought i'd be more confident one day, but i'm starting to appreciate that I attract really great people in my life. I have to head into work, if I get a chance I'll try to get a list together for our tea party, no promises though, you know how work can be.”

You would be such a great cat, Ember. You’re so confident and graceful. I thought I’d be more confident one day, but I’m starting to appreciate that I attract really great people in my life. I have to head into work. If I get a chance, I’ll try to make a list for our tea party, but no promises. You know how work can be.

Ember
That is a lovely thing to hear, especially from someone who keeps showing up even when confidence feels complicated. And no promises is completely fair. The tea-party list can wait for a quieter day.
The cosmic sign grows larger above Saturn Shop and Sip. Cybil carries her tea toward the propped-open door, while Ember matches her pace and keeps the remaining conversation light.

Ember
Go take care of your shift. If you get five spare minutes, write down one recipe. If you don’t, I’ll bring my phone and we’ll build the list together later.
Inside, the dim shop is busier than before, with customers browsing by emergency lights and the Saturn Staff member sorting cash receipts near the counter. Cybil reaches the work area without delay.

Thanks for coming back, Cybil. We need help keeping the counter organized while the outage continues.
