Mara lifts her cup and gathers her bag, the silver star in her braid catching the café lights as she prepares to leave. At the entrance, Sylvester appears, broad-shouldered and unmistakable in a fitted athletic jacket, his square jaw set beneath closely cropped dark hair.
His attention lands on you first. Then it slides toward Mara, carrying the possessive familiarity of someone who still assumes he can walk into your life whenever he pleases.

Sylvester
Cybil. Didn’t expect to find you playing hostess for somebody new.
Mara pauses with one hand around her cup. She does not retreat, but her polite expression tightens as she looks from Sylvester to you, recognizing the shape of an intrusion.

Mara
I’m finishing a lesson with Cybil, actually. We were having a pleasant afternoon.

Sylvester
Mara, right? You always did collect strays, Cybil. I figured you’d have outgrown that by now.
The café’s quiet seems to narrow around the three of you. Mara sets her cup down instead of leaving, her posture calm and attentive, while Sylvester waits as though your answer belongs to him.

Make Sylvester respect Cybil’s boundary
“I, um...sylvester I didn't expect to see you but if you don't mind I'm busy talking with mara. we can um... catch up another time or something.”

cybil
I, um... Sylvester, I didn't expect to see you. But I'm busy talking with Mara. We can catch up another time or something.
The words come out softly, tangled at the edges. Sylvester hears the invitation in another time more clearly than the boundary around now, and his mouth tilts with familiar confidence.

Sylvester
Sure. Another time. But you can spare me five minutes, Cybil. Mara won't mind, will you?
He shifts farther into the shop instead of toward the door, positioning himself beside the counter and making the promised later feel like a conversation he has simply postponed by force of assumption.

Mara
She said she is busy. I do mind being used as proof that she should give you her time.
Mara keeps her voice even, but the warmth in her expression turns protective. She picks up her cup and bag, no longer treating Sylvester's interruption as something she must politely endure.

Sylvester
Wow. Still letting other people speak for you? Fine, Cybil. I'll see you around.
Director's note
looks at feet again
“oh my god mara you're so brave how can you be so confident, it's amazing....you're amazing”
SUCCESS (Mediocre Conversation, rolled +3)

cybil
Oh my god, Mara, you're so brave. How can you be so confident? It's amazing... you're amazing.
You turn fully toward Mara, then look at your feet, the compliment spilling out before you can soften it. Behind her, Sylvester pauses near the entrance.

Mara
Cybil... thank you. That is an incredibly generous thing to say.
Mara's guarded expression melts into startled warmth. She shifts her cup to one hand and faces you completely, giving your words the attention they deserve.

Mara
I don't always feel confident. I just try not to let fear make every choice for me.
At the doorway, Sylvester gives a short, humorless breath and finally steps outside. The bell chimes behind him, leaving the café quieter than before.

Mara
But hearing that from you means more than you probably realize.
