The Inquisitor pushes the ledger across the desk, stopping with his palm on the clasp. The study is still, save for the scrape of pen nib and the murmur of men waiting in the hall beyond.

One final statement, chaplain. Plainly. If you would bind my hand to this charge, name what is proven.

Sir Eleutherius keeps his post at the door, half turned to the threshold, where a cloaked monk lingers in the lantern light. His grip tightens on his sword hilt, but he does not move.

Frieda

Frieda

Frieda confirms the witnesses spoke under oath, and that the papers, seal, and ledger point to Bishop Eisenfaust's men.

He weighs the words, then the door, then the seal pressed into wax. The evidence is enough, if I have the nerve to use it.

The Inquisitor draws the ledger back, sets his signet to the page, and reaches for sealing wax. At the door, Sir Eleutherius shifts his stance as the cloaked monk subtly leans in, watching the desk.

The Inquisitor

So recorded. The court will have it. If any hand here serves the Bishop, let him speak now or be named after.

Frieda steps in close as the wax softens. She lays her hand flat on the ledger, steady over the page, and the room seems to tighten around that touch.

Then it is witnessed.

The Inquisitor presses his signet deeper into the wax, and the seal takes. Sir Eleutherius watches from the door without blinking, while the cloaked monk draws back a fraction in the lantern glow.

The Clerk goes white at his table and says nothing. The quill in his hand stills above the parchment.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

Let the record stand. Any man here for Bishop Eisenfaust may speak now, under court and God.

No one answers. The wax hardens under Frieda's fingers, warm now and unmistakable, binding the page to the court's protection.

Beyond the study, footsteps gather in the hall, cautious and slow, as if even the doorway has become a witness.
