The Clerk scratches the final line faster, ink shining wet on the page. Magistrate Hauer keeps one hand on the ledger, the other hovering above the warrant, as if the parchment itself might bite.

My lord, the summons is ready. One seal more, and it goes into the court roll.

A red wax seal lies beside the record, bright as a wound in the lamplight. The Canon’s protest still hangs in the room like smoke, but no voice answers it now.

If I sign, I bind the court to this road. If I delay, Eisenfaust wins by silence.

Frieda stands firm at the dais, close enough to the desk to see the ledger’s names. The hall is still, waiting for Hauer’s hand to move.

Sign it. Let the court judge Bishop Eisenfaust before his men shut this down.

Hauer draws the warrant toward him at last, his jaw tight. The Clerk lifts the seal, ready to press it into place, and the court’s answer hangs on the edge of a single stroke.

Hauer’s hand comes down at once. The quill bites the parchment, and his signature runs hard and clean beneath the summons.

Then the court stands with the Empire. Seal it.

The Clerk presses red wax to the line, meticulous to the last grain of heat, then lowers the seal with a careful twist.

Entered and sealed for the court roll, my lord.

The Canon’s protest dies into the timbered rafters. Hauer draws the warrant close, and the ledger, the red-sealed scrap, and Frieda’s proof now sit under the court’s protection.

A messenger outside the hall is heard, then cut off by the bolt. The room holds its breath around the signed warrant, waiting for whoever dares challenge it next.
