Wolfie crosses the threshold. The air inside the mountain tastes of cold ozone and rotting parchment, heavy with the weight of ages.

Wolfie
This place has entirely too many books and not nearly enough beds.

Scholar
Do not touch the spines, sorcerer. Some of these histories still bleed when opened.

Orsain
He is not here to read, Scholar. He is here because the world's marrow is leaking.
The Grey Sentinel follows close behind, his boots silent against the obsidian floor. He keeps his hand near the pommel of his sword.
Above them, the ceiling of the library is lost in a swirling, artificial fog that pulses in rhythm with the distant grinding of tectonic plates.

Learn why the mountain archive is leaking into the world
“*He walks instinctively towards the source of the leak*”
SUCCESS (Superb Perception, rolled +0)

Wolfie follows the pull in the air, and the fog above the archive tightens into a thin, trembling seam. The source is here, somewhere between two towering stacks of black stone.
A circular crack hangs open over the aisle, no wider than a door, rimmed in pale light. Cold wind breathes out of it, carrying ashes, wet earth, and a whisper of distant surf.

Scholar
No. That is not supposed to be visible.

Orsain
Stay away from the breach. If it widens, this archive dies with the mountain.
Wolfie reaches the edge of the leak. The light from it crawls over his robes and the nearest shelves, making the old bindings seem to shiver.

Scholar
You see it now, then. Tell me what stands on the other side.
The crack answers with a deeper pulse, and something large shifts in the darkness beyond it, as if aware of being noticed.
“... *What am I supposed to do here?*”
SUCCESS (Superb Perception, rolled +0)
The pulse in the crack swells, and the darkness beyond it resolves into a vast ribbed shape, like a vault door breathing in the wrong direction. Cold air lashes the aisle. Wolfie’s gaze catches on a detail the others miss, a runic scar braided through the rim, fresh enough to still gleam.

Wolfie
Those marks are active. Someone opened this recently.

Scholar
No, no... that seal is ours. Or it was. That script is not from any lawful catalog.

Orsain
Then it is a wound, not a door. Can you shut it?
Wolfie lifts a hand. The pale breach shudders in answer, and for a breath the aisle beyond it flashes with impossible depth, rows upon rows of stone steps descending into black water.

Scholar
Wait. Do not close it yet. I can read the break if it holds a moment longer.
A low pressure rolls out from the opening, dragging dust in a spiral around Wolfie’s boots. Somewhere inside the crack, something turns its attention fully toward him.

Orsain
Wolfie, decide. Hold it open, or seal it now.

Seal the breach

“*He tilts his head, it's not unstable and doesn't require anything at the moment* Yeah, it's stable, seems it mended the seam, whatever this is, it's currently stable”
SUCCESS (Superb Perception, rolled +2)
The pressure eases. The spiral in the dust loosens, as if the breach is listening and accepting his verdict.
Inside the crack, the ribbed darkness folds back from the rim. The fresh runes flare once, then settle into a steady, captive glow.

Scholar
Stable... yes. That seam is holding itself together now. Impossible.

Orsain
Then we have time. Barely. Wolfie, what did you see?
A thin sheen of black water appears beyond the opening, and the stone steps beneath it become clearer, running down into a vaulted depth the archive was never meant to know.

Wolfie
The seal is mended, for now. The rune-work is fresh, and it is not ours.

Scholar
Fresh script, foreign pattern... this is an intrusion, not a collapse. Someone is feeding the archive a door.

Orsain
Then point me at the hand that did it. Before the library bleeds any farther.
