The floorboards vanish, replaced by a suffocating, silent grey void. Wolfie drifts in the stillness, weightless and unmoored, until his boots find purchase on a slab of cold, floating stone.

Scholar
You always were fond of shortcuts, though they rarely lead where you intend. Welcome to the marrow of the world, Arch Angel.

Wolfie
This place smells like ozone and stagnant time.

Orsain
He is not the master of this realm, Scholar. He is merely an intruder with a stolen spark, and he shall remain here until his light gutters out.
A towering figure emerges from the fog, clad in armor made of shifting smoke and rusted iron. The Grey Sentinel points a long, jagged blade toward Wolfie, blocking the path the Scholar indicated.

Orsain
I have collected the wings of greater gods than you. Do not make me carve the rest away.

Escape the grey void
“... *He just groans, he makes no move to do anything, this is the letting go phase, and being faced with this type of situation is one where he traditionally would lean into his power and control, so he does the opposite.*”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Wolfie lets out a long groan and simply stops reaching, stops bracing, stops trying to outmuscle the moment. The void answers with a hush so deep it feels like a held breath.

Scholar
Ah. There it is. The retirement posture.
The Grey Sentinel hesitates, blade still leveled, as if his quarry has slipped a chain he expected to tighten.

Orsain
Do not mock me with surrender, Arch Angel. I know tricks when I see them.
Wolfie does not answer. His shoulders sink instead, and the nearest floating slab trembles under his boots, then steadies, as though the marrow of the world is listening.

Scholar
Interesting. He is not resisting the realm. He is letting it speak first.
The fog thins around the Scholar’s journal. Its leather cover cracks open by itself, pages fluttering without wind, each line catching a cold silver sheen.

Orsain
What have you done?
A deeper slab rolls up from the dark below, and from its edge, a pale seam of light begins to split the void. The Sentinel raises his blade toward the widening fault, and the Scholar smiles without warmth.
“*He sits down on his floating stone or whatever it is, indicating he's not running anymore, to the universe, to his destiny, to whoever*”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Wolfie slowly lowers himself to the uneven surface of the stone slab. He crosses his legs and lets his gaze wander into the emptiness, pointedly ignoring the weapon still leveled at his throat.

Wolfie
The void feels strangely like a weighted blanket compared to the shouting in the tavern.

Orsain
He sits. He abandons his stance entirely. This is madness.

Scholar
It is not madness, Sentinel. It is a refusal to play. Notice how the light bends around him rather than cutting him.
As Wolfie settles his weight, the slab beneath him emits a low, harmonious hum. The pale seam of light in the void expands, not into a tear, but into a doorway of shimmering, ancient script.

Scholar
The archive has accepted his surrender. He has unlocked the gate without touching a single rune.
