The Ledger's Truth Revealed

Enanita slips into the crypt and finds the hidden archive chamber just as before, dim stone, cold air, and the Inquisitor waiting in the blue hush. He does not reach for steel. He only lifts a hand toward the ledger in her grasp, as if the room itself has been expecting this return.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

You brought it back. Good. Then we speak now, not later.

The iron grate below rattles harder, pursuit scraping the sanctuary’s bones. Dust falls from the arch while the ledger’s worn cover catches the faint light. The Inquisitor steps closer, eyes fixed on the proof, not on Enanita’s blade.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

I suspected the Magistrate’s rot for years, but suspicion is ash without names. That book gives them breath.

The ledger is enough to name the dead, and the living who made them vanish.

He opens his palm, patient and severe. When Enanita gives him the ledger, he turns straight to the marked pages, scanning seals, dates, and altered lines with a grim stillness that deepens into certainty.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

Yes. There it is. False writs, buried transfers, clipped signatures. This is not rumor. This is a chain of crimes.

He folds the ledger shut and looks up at last, expression hard but changed. Outside, the grate bangs once more, and this time the sound is answered by distant shouts from the sanctuary above.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

The ledger has done its work. Justice can finally move with a face, and with witnesses. Hold the door, Enanita. I am done protecting a lie.

Hold the crypt door against the pursuit

Is the Inquisitor still behind the lie?

NO (VeryUnlikely, rolled 34)

The Inquisitor lets the ledger rest against his chest, his gaze devoid of the calculated deception that once defined his service to the Magistrate. He stands firm, his posture shedding the weight of a long-held, hollow loyalty.

I brace the crypt door again

SUCCESS (Good Strength, rolled +0)

The Ledger's Truth Revealed

Enanita drives her shoulder and boots into the crypt door, and the iron groans back at her.

The frame shudders, then settles with a rough, grinding hold as dust spills from the seam above.

The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor

Good. Keep it there.

If they break through, the ledger must not fall back into their hands.

From beyond the grate, boots hammer the stone stairwell, hard and fast, then stop at the door.

The Inquisitor

I have the names now. Let them come.

A fist slams metal on the other side, and a rough voice barks for the door to be opened at once.
