Echoes of the Neon Signal

The maintenance seam gives way, and Oni Sakurai drops into the cold chamber below the club. The feedback is still there, but thinner now, like a voice heard through glass.

No speakers line the walls. No console glows. In the center of the room stands a massive glass tank, lit from below by pale medical strips, and something huge floats inside it, dormant and twisted.

Rhythmic pulses ripple through the tank, matching the signal exactly. The psychic voice was never coming from the club at all, it is being forced out through this thing, and the walls are only carrying it upward.

The Kid stares at the tank, horror draining the color from their face. Their glowing reflection floats in the curved glass, warped over the creature's blank, sleeping features like a cruel echo.

Around them, the chamber hums with sterile machinery, indifferent and precise. Whatever made the child a broadcast antenna is still here, and it has been feeding the club from below.

Oni rises from her crouch and places her palm flat against the tank's glass. The cold bites through her skin at once.

The hum answers her touch, not with sound, but with pressure, a tight vibration climbing her arm and settling behind her eyes.

Inside the tank, the creature stirs. Its shape remains blurred and monstrous, but the broadcast sharpens, threading through the glass into Oni's senses.

The Kid does not step back this time. Their shoulders sag, then square again, as if the truth lands hard enough to either break or steady them.

The chamber's sterile lights flicker once. In the glass, Oni's reflection and the Kid's reflection sit side by side over the tank, while the signal waits for the next choice.
