Cold night air spills up the service stair behind Oni Sakurai. The alley above the loading spine is narrow, wet, and loud with distant bass. The Kid hovers close to her side, still shaky but present. The Mutated Creature keeps to the wall, watching every shadow. The Lead Guard stands at the stair door with his squad held back below, listening to the street like he expects it to answer.

The Lead Guard
You have your exit. Take it. If they come for you, they will come through us first.
For one beat, nobody moves. The promise is thin, but real. Above the alley mouth, a city bus hisses past. Somewhere nearby, a siren starts and fades. The Kid glances at Oni, then toward the dark street beyond the alley.

The Kid
Can we really just go?
The Mutated Creature edges closer to the Kid, mirroring their small, uncertain step. The Lead Guard lowers his chin, not friendly, not hostile, just exhausted. He shifts aside from the stair door and lets the night stay open.

The Lead Guard
Tonight, yes. After that, stay out of sight.
The alley holds its breath. The Kid and the Mutated Creature wait on Oni Sakurai's decision, one step from a harder kind of life and one choice from safety.
Oni Sakurai leaves the alley above the loading spine behind and arrives at the street.
“I lead them out into the street”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)

The street catches them in cold neon and wet asphalt. Oni leads cleanly, with the Kid tucked close and the Mutated Creature shadowing the curb, while the alley falls behind like a bad dream shutting a door.
Traffic hisses past in the next lane. The club bass is only a bruise in the distance now, but it still seems to vibrate through the sidewalk under Oni's feet.

The Kid
So this is outside.
The Kid slows at the curb, then follows Oni's lead again. The Mutated Creature mirrors the motion a half second later, its attention flicking from streetlights to passing faces to Oni.
A delivery van rolls by on the far side of the block, and a pair of late pedestrians glance over, then keep walking. Nobody stops them.

The Lead Guard
Keep to the left side. Not the fish market's right side.
Oni puts herself between the open sidewalk and the two frightened strays, guiding them into the night as the stair door and the guard recede behind them.

The service door shut behind them, and the alley fell away into city light.

Oni Sakurai
Stay close. We walk like we belong here.

The Kid
We do now.

The Mutated Creature
Air. Open. No chains.
Oni led them into the current of the street, and no one stopped to name them.
For one brief night, the three of them were not cargo, not threats, not targets. They were only a small moving shape in the city, carrying fear, hope, and the stubbornness to keep going. Behind them, the alley and its promise of mercy vanished into the dark.
