The shelves give way all at once. Wood, books, and black dust crash outward, and Lilimeth is shoved into a cramped service corridor behind the wall. Elias stumbles after her, coughing in the grit.

Keep moving. Do not look back.

Behind them, the torn library groans and seals itself in jagged darkness. The Herald of Purity is left on the far side, his voice muffled by splintered timber and settling dust.

It is leading you. The house wants the tome near its heart.

The corridor is sloping deeper into the mansion.

The walls throb once, like a pulse under old plaster. A thread of cold air slides past Lilimeth's cheek, and the passage bends toward a narrow seam of pale light ahead, as if the house is opening its own throat.

Elias

There. That is not a servant passage. Something is pulling us.

At the end of the corridor, a hidden archway stands half-formed in the wall, rimmed with frost and black residue. Beyond it waits a deeper chamber, and the faint, hungry pressure of the tome answers from Lilimeth's hip.

Find a new hiding place for the tome

Lilimeth Sullist leaves Mansion library behind and arrives at hidden chamber.

SUCCESS (Fair Agility, rolled +1)

The hidden chamber catches Lilimeth in a breath of wet cold. Salt-stale stone presses close, and a low altar of black wood sits beneath a seam of pale light, as if the room has been waiting to be remembered.

The tome jerks once at her hip, then goes still. Frost spiders across the altar’s edge, and the hidden stone staircase behind her gives a soft, settling groan.

Do you see it? This is no servant’s crawlspace. It is a keeping place.

The altar is newer than the walls.

Lilimeth edges closer, and the pale light reveals carvings cut into the stone, not prayers but names, worn down by handling.

Those marks, they are invitations. Someone fed the house a memory, and the house never let it go.

A narrow hollow opens beneath the altar lip, lined with dry cloth and old dust. It is just large enough to hide the tome, and the chamber seems to exhale around it.

From somewhere in the walls, a distant thud answers, as if the mansion has noticed where she has gone.
