The car lurches into the tunnel, tires crunching grit. Behind Ben, the service gate shudders under a hard, metallic slam, then holds. Ahead, the dark throat of the freeway service passage trembles with falling dust.

Cid
Keep moving, Ben! Residential exit, now!

Martha
The ceiling is coming apart, we need out of here!

Rachel
Ben, it is still behind us, right?
A yellow flash skims the gate window, fast and hungry, but the barrier holds for now. Amy twists in her seat, checking the dashboard map as the car rattles deeper into the dark.

Amy
The side route is straight ahead. If we stay on this lane, we can make the district split.

Ben
The tunnel is narrower than the car.
Ben pushes the vehicle forward, keeping the family moving as the concrete groans overhead. The escape route is clear now, but so is the cost, one wrong delay here, and the tunnel becomes a trap.

Escape the service tunnel
“Full speed ahead”
FAILURE (Good Driving, rolled -2)

Ben floors it, but the tunnel bites back. The car fishtails on loose grit, skidding hard toward a jagged seam in the pavement.
Cid grabs the dash as the front end dips, eyes snapping to a damaged side passage ahead. "Left, now! That lane is open!"
Martha twists around, staring at the roof as another shower of dust spills down. "Ben, the ceiling is giving way over the main route!"

Amy
The map marker just shifted. The residential exit is not straight through anymore.

Rachel
I can see light, but it is blocked. Ben, something fell in front of it.
Ahead, a collapsed slab and twisted rebar choke the tunnel, forcing the car toward a narrow maintenance spur. Behind them, the gate reverberates under another удар, and the trapped Murder Drone streaks yellow against the glass.

Cid
Either you thread that spur, or we stop right here.
“Thread the spur”
FAILURE (Good Driving, rolled -4)

The spur is narrower than it looked, a service lane choked with broken conduit and sagging pipe. Ben jerks the car in, and the right side scrapes hard enough to spark against the wall.

Cid
Too tight, too tight, keep it moving! Don't stop in the choke point!
The front tires catch on a ridge of busted asphalt. The car bucks, then slams sideways, nose wedged under a low beam that was already cracked.

Martha
Ben, the beam is cracking, get us out from under it!
Ahead, the spur opens into a maintenance alcove, but the way through is blocked by a fallen utility cart and a bent metal cabinet. The main tunnel behind them booms again, louder than before.

Amy
That blockage moved when the car hit the wall. There may be room to squeeze if someone clears it.

Rachel
I hear it coming closer... Ben, which way now?
“Ben will stop the car, and using his industrial grade strength will attempt to move the rubble off of the car.”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +2)

Ben kills the car's motion and shoves open the door. With one hard pull, they haul the front end free as the wedged rubble shifts aside with a grinding slide.
The bent cabinet tips, then slams flat against the wall, clearing a crawlspace into the alcove. Dust pours down in a gray sheet, but the beam above the car holds.

Cid
That's it, Ben, keep that opening clear!

Martha
Good, good, everyone breathe, move now while it stays open.

Amy
The gap is wider than it looked. Ben just made an actual route.

Rachel
I can see through it, are we going that way?
Beyond the cleared alcove, a narrow service passage angles away into darker concrete, marked by a faded exit sign half-buried in dust.
“Ben will hold the rubble open so the family can get through, "everyone move"”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +1)

Ben plants themself in the gap and braces the slab of rubble with both hands. The Martins file past one by one, shoulders scraping concrete as dust spills around their feet.

Cid
Move, move, keep going. Ben has it covered.
Martha ducks through with Rachel tucked close, then Amy slips after them, turning her head back only once toward the car and the dark behind it.

Rachel
It is open. Ben, do not let it close.
Ben shifts the rubble a few inches higher. The edge grinds, but the passage stays wide enough, and a pocket of air beyond smells less like dust and more like outside concrete.

Amy
There, the exit sign. The passage bends toward it.
From behind them, a sharp metallic crash rings through the tunnel, distant but closing. The family is through, and all eyes snap to Ben, waiting for the last move.
“While holding the rubble up, then we'll grab the vehicle and lift it in a way that it will block the passageway keeping the murder drone out.”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled -1)

Ben shifts their weight, and the slab finally gives. The rubble edge settles into a stubborn new brace, pinning the crawlspace open just long enough for the family to move clear.
Then Ben releases the rubble and grabs the stalled car by its frame. Metal shrieks as they haul it sideways, muscles and servos biting through the strain.
The vehicle lurches into the passage, nose first, and Ben jams it crosswise against the gap. Tires skid on dust. The body locks in with a hard, grinding thud.

Cid
That works. Keep it there.
Behind the makeshift barricade, the tunnel darkens as the distant metallic crash echoes again, closer now, but blocked.

Amy
The sign is still ahead. We can move.
Rachel looks back once at the jammed car, then points into the bend where the faded exit sign glows through dust, waiting.
“Ben will reach into the trunk of the car and grab the supplies including food water and tools. He will then drop the rubble and run after the family to the exit.”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +3)

Ben ducks into the car’s open rear, yanks free a buried stash, and slings out water, packets of food, and a small tool roll in one swift haul.
The last bit of rubble drops from Ben’s grip with a dusty clatter, and the barricade holds on its own.
Ben breaks into a run after the Martins, supplies tucked tight against their frame, dust kicking up behind their feet.

Cid
Good, keep moving. Don’t let that thing get a clean line at us.

Amy
I see the exit light, it is still ahead.

Rachel
Ben, over here, the passage bends left.
Behind them, the jammed car groans under a fresh удар from the dark side of the tunnel, but the barricade holds long enough for the family to pull farther away.

Ben breaks into the bend and the crawlspace opens ahead, a slanted hatch marked by a faded residential exit sign. The tunnel noise drops away behind the barricade.

Cid
There, that’s the exit. Keep low, keep moving.
Ben surges through first, hauling the supplies through the narrow gap and pulling the others after them. Dust shakes loose from the ceiling, but the passage holds.

Amy
That sign is real. We made it to the right route.

Rachel
I knew the left turn was correct. Ben, this way, this way!
The family spills into the exit alcove, where cold outside air leaks in under a warped metal panel. Behind them, the car-barricade shudders under another удар, still holding.

Martha
Everyone out, now. Ben, can you get that panel open?
