Adventure of Daniel North 1

Daniel North hauls the heavy machine gun up through the smoke-choked lane. The burning truck throws orange light across the wall, and the secondary rally point finally comes into full view.

Behind a ragged barricade, eight ROC troopers and three American soldiers crouch shoulder to shoulder. A civilian weatherman in a stained flight jacket clutches a map case to his chest.

Daniel breaks from cover with Douglas and Justin, boots sliding in ash. The CCP nest rattles the wall with harsh bursts, but the squad closes the last stretch to the barricade.

The two groups collide at the barricade, hands grabbing web gear, arms hauling men into tighter cover. Justin presses the battered radio set into place as Douglas turns toward the lane behind them.

Smoke rolls over the barricade as the survivors count heads and ammo. Beyond them, the route to evacuation waits under fire, one more break in the wall away.

Daniel scans the perimeter beyond the sandbags, his eyes catching the silhouette of a heavy transport truck parked in the shadow of a collapsed hangar. It sits idling, its engine block intact and the driver side door hanging open, offering a potential path through the fire.

Daniel snaps out his order and points through the smoke. ROC Trooper 7 and American Soldier 2 break from the barricade, low and fast, toward the idling truck under the collapsed hangar.

Daniel opens up over their heads, the heavy gun hammering the hangar edge and forcing the nest builder to duck back out of sight.

At the truck, ROC Trooper 7 yanks the hanging door wider while American Soldier 2 braces a shoulder to the frame and checks the wheels and cab in one quick glance.

Justin clutches the damaged radio set tighter against his chest, listening to the faint static from command while the barricade keeps firing. The truck is theirs now, if they can bring it through the smoke.

Daniel keeps the gun barking in short, controlled bursts. The hangar edge chips and sparks, and the paratrooper trying to settle into the nest ducks hard behind the wreckage.

At the truck, American Soldier 2 slams the cab door partway shut and waves ROC Trooper 7 forward. The engine catches, rough but steady.

Daniel shifts his fire right, cutting down the open ground where two combat UGVs skitter in from the smoke. Their advance breaks and one jerks sideways into a crater.

The truck lurches free of the hangar shadow, taking the weight off the barricade line. Smoke rolls past the cab as the squad’s fire forces the attackers to keep their heads down.
