The neon sign outside the diner hums with a rhythmic flicker. Bobby clicks his laptop shut, the screen fading from its glowing green diagnostic dashboard to black.

Jax
The window is open, Bobby. You have the codes and the clearance. Do not make me regret trusting you with this.

Bobby
The five minute countdown is already ticking down in my head.

Jax
I am heading to the south perimeter to draw off any straggling patrols. If you are not out by the time that clock hits zero, I cannot help you.
Jax turns, his silhouette cutting through the dense wall of fog pressing against the diner window. He exits without looking back, his footsteps swallowed by the heavy, damp silence of the street.
Bobby sits alone at the booth for a final second. He adjusts his grip on the laptop bag, stands, and pushes through the diner door into the cold night.

Escape the diner before the countdown ends
“Bobby wishes there was more time to improve airflow to cool the engine. He takes a gamble: leaving the hood latched but partially released will cool off the engine slightly better, at the cost of worse aerodynamics. He also won't be able to survive as frontal impact without the hood flying up, but he figures it's better than a blown engine on a dangerous course. He partially pops the hood, and rushes off.”
SUCCESS (Good Driving, rolled +4)

Cold air hits Bobby as he steps into the fog, and the old hood latch gives with a metallic pop. The engine bay vents a thin ribbon of heat, and the car settles into a meaner, looser stance.

Bobby
The hood is secure enough to run, and loose enough to breathe.
Bobby drops into the driver seat, slams the door, and the laptop bag thumps against his knee. The timer on the screen keeps blinking, calm and merciless.

Jax
Good. Move now, Bobby. If you hesitate, you lose the gap.
The car pulls out clean, the front end biting through the fog with a little less drag and a little more nerve. For one sharp second, Bobby spots the green dots on the map spreading away from the diner, like the whole route is opening in front of him.
Behind him, the diner window glows gold against the night. Ahead, the street widens into darkness, and the countdown keeps burning down.

Jax
South route is clear for now. What is your move once you hit the intersection?
“I keep low and let Jax guide me by radio”
SUCCESS (Good Stealth, rolled +1)

Bobby eases off the gas and lets the fog swallow the car’s outline. The laptop bag stays planted, the radio crackles once, and Jax’s directions come clean and steady through the hiss.

Jax
Left at the next light. Keep to the curb, there’s a camera on the corner.
Bobby follows the voice, smooth and quiet. The car drifts through the turn without a squeal, hood breathing heat into the cold air like it belongs there.

Bobby
The route on the screen is shifting faster than the streets do.
A green line blooms on the laptop map, clearer than before, as if Jax’s timing has opened a hidden lane. The diner slips behind a curtain of fog and glassy light.

Jax
Good, Bobby. You’ve got a clean run now, and the south side patrol just looked the other way.
Ahead, the intersection clears wide enough for speed, and a wet reflection on the pavement shows no headlights cutting in from the side.
