The speeder knifes through the lower city tunnel, light stripes strobing over Zoey Terraj’s hands. Behind them, the gang leader’s interceptor shrieks closer, cannon coils whining up to a kill tone.

Mara
He is still on us. Tell me you have a plan, or at least a very fast prayer to a machine that works.

Zoey Terraj
If you have a better one, I am all antennae.
The rebel soldier jerks the data-pad up between them. The screen flashes a route splice and a partial Imperial seal, then jitters as the signal tries to lock onto a hidden transponder.

Mara
This pad has the extraction map. If they take it, the cell is dead.
A hard ping snaps across Zoey’s console. The Imperial courier tag, still stuck to the panel, wakes and spills a thin targeting thread into the lane behind them. The interceptor is not just chasing them, it is being pointed straight at them.

Zoey Terraj
That tag is broadcasting their position.
The tunnel ahead forks, one branch cluttered with maintenance scaffolds, the other opening toward a transit checkpoint. Zoey has seconds to cut the tag, dump the signal, or drive them straight into an Imperial net.
✓ Quest Accepted
Cut the courier tag signal
“Zoey rips the courier tag off the panel, and tosses it in the direction of the checkpoint, while she heads to the scaffolding path. "Brace yourself, this is going to get a little dicey," Zoey says with a grin to the Rebel Soldier.”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +0)

Zoey yanks the courier tag free in one clean motion and flings it toward the checkpoint lane. It skips once across the deck, skating into the brighter branch just as the speeder dives left under the scaffolds.

Zoey Terraj
Brace yourself, this is going to get a little dicey.

Mara
That is the least comforting thing you could say while we are moving this fast.
The tag’s targeting thread peels off behind them and latches onto the checkpoint lights instead. Ahead, maintenance catwalks rush over the speeder roof, all rusted braces and hanging cable shadows.
The interceptor commits to the wrong branch, its cannon glow sliding away with a harsh metallic whine.

The Gang Leader
Wrong turn, girl. You just bought yourself a coffin.
Zoey threads the speeder under the scaffolding path, the tunnel narrowing around them as the checkpoint flare washes the other fork in harsh white light.
Quest Complete
Cut the courier tag signal
“As Zoey navigates through the scaffolding, she spares a glance at the data pad, remembering seeing a flash of a hidden transponder trying to lock on. "Hey... What's your name? There's a transponder somewhere, trying to lock on. Can you turn that off?"”
SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled -1)

The speeder rattles into the scaffold branch, metal ribs flashing past the canopy in hard bands. Zoey catches the rebel soldier’s profile in the dim, then the data-pad, then the faint confidence of a hidden transmitter trying to whisper through the noise.

Zoey Terraj
Hey... what’s your name? There’s a transponder somewhere trying to lock on. Can you turn that off?

Mara
Mara. And yes, if that thing is tied to my pad, I can kill it.
Mara flips the data-pad over in her hands, thumbs moving fast over a service seam Zoey would barely have noticed. The little device gives a soft, irritated chirp, then the hidden lock light dies.

Mara
There. No more beacon.
For a second, the only sound is the engine and the tunnel wind. Mara exhales, shoulders loosening while the scaffold shadows strobe over her face.

Mara
I was not going to let them drag me back. Thanks for not asking later.
Ahead, the branch bends deeper into the maintenance maze, and the brighter checkpoint glow fades behind them into a useless smear.
✓ Quest Accepted
Escape the lower city tunnels
“"Oh, for sure. Name's Zoey but the way, nice to meet you Mara. Thanks for the distraction, I've been trying to grab this speeder from them for like an hour. I know a sweet little chop shop happy to rip parts off of vehicles owned by scum."”
FAILURE (Great Willpower, rolled -3)

Zoey Terraj
Zoey. Nice to meet you, Mara. And, for the record, I have definitely been trying to steal this speeder from scum for less than an hour. Maybe.
The cockpit shudders through a tight bend. Mara huffs a short laugh despite herself, still clutching the dead data-pad like it might restart if she lets go.

Mara
You talk like a mechanic with a broken halo.
Zoey keeps the nose steady as the scaffold tunnel narrows around them, beams rattling close enough to scrape sparks from the hull.

Zoey Terraj
I know a chop shop that loves stripping parts off vehicles owned by people who deserve it.

Mara
That sounds almost respectable when you say it like that.
Mara glances at Zoey, then back at the darkening tunnel ahead, her relief settling into something quieter and more careful.

Mara
If we make it there, I owe you more than a thank-you. Right now, I just need to stay moving.
“"Perfect, 30 seconds after meeting, we already have something in common," Zoey says with a wink as she continues to drive. "Got a destination in mind? Or is the chop shop on the upper floor as good a destination as any?"”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +1)

Zoey Terraj
Perfect, thirty seconds after meeting, and we already have something in common.
Zoey keeps the speeder smooth through the cramped tunnel and throws Mara a quick wink before she faces forward again. The chassis hum settles into a steadier note as the scaffold ribs slide past, no longer scraping the hull.

Mara
That is either charming or a warning sign. I have not decided which.

Zoey Terraj
Got a destination in mind, or is the chop shop on the upper floor as good a destination as any?

Mara
Upper floor would be a very strange chop shop. If this route keeps bending left, we come out under Dock Nine. My contact likes hidden doors and bad coffee.

Mara
She glances at the dead pad, then at the tunnel mouth ahead.
The maintenance maze opens into a broader service throat. Far behind them, the checkpoint glow is only a dim stain, and the courier tag on the console sits inert, dark as scrap.

Mara
Dock Nine, then. If your friend is real, I can get us patched up and gone before anyone notices we were here. Can you keep us on that line?
“"Like all good chop shops, it's not its only business. Has a lovely front business of being an actual mechanic shop." Zoey turns, heading towards Dock Nine. "Yeah, for sure. Now unless there is a third or fourth tracking device hidden in your socks, it should be smooth sailing for quite a while." Zoey raises an eyebrow curiously. "What's on that data pad that they want so badly? Something about a cell?"”
