The pale limb bucks under Purple and Blue’s combined force, and the chamber answers with a long, ugly groan. Dust pours from the ceiling seams. Orange and Yellow dig in harder, trying to keep the floor from giving way.
Green feels the heat in the air spike, sick and alive, as the thing below shifts its weight. The pipe network around them creaks, not ready for another blow.

Purple
Now. Push with everything you have.
Blue drives forward, shoulders locked, forcing the limb up a few inches. The movement opens a narrow gap beside the obstruction, just enough to glimpse the pit and the wet shine of something massive beneath it.

Orange
Green, move when it breaks. I have you.
The floorboard under Yellow splits with a sharp crack, and the chamber lurches sideways. The opening is there for a heartbeat, a route past the limb and deeper into the branch before the ceiling settles again.
“Is this creature's attack malicious or defensive?”
SUCCESS (Legendary Reasoning, rolled +1)

The gap holds for a breath, and Green reads the creature in that sliver of motion. It is not striking blind. Its weight shifts to keep the chamber sealed, as if it bars the way to something below.

Green the Colossus
It is guarding the pit.
Blue forces the limb higher, just enough for the chamber’s wet stink to surge up. Beneath the pale hide, the hidden mass moves with wary pressure, not a lunge.

Purple
Hold it there. If it wanted us broken, it would have struck already.

Orange
Then it’s defending something. Green, can you see what it is protecting?
Yellow slips a hand to the cracked floor for balance, eyes fixed on the opening. The chamber groans again, but the answer has changed the shape of the danger. This thing is a guardian, and whatever waits in the branch has its attention.
“I gently reach out an reast a caring hand on the creature's massive paw. The vines on my arm griw slowly and carefully wrap around the creature's hand connecting me to the creature so i may communicate with it”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Green eases her hand onto the creature’s massive paw. The vines along her arm stir, then thread outward in a slow, deliberate spiral, touching pale hide without striking it.
For one taut second, the chamber goes still around the contact. The guarding weight shifts, not away from her, but toward her touch, as if something inside the limb notices her.

Purple
She is reaching it. If it answers, we may learn what this thing is protecting.
The vine connection takes hold, thin as a breath. Through it comes a blunt pulse of warning, a buried pressure below the floor, and a distant throb of rootlight drowning under stone.
Green’s hand remains steady, but the cost lands at once, a sharp ache climbing her arm as the vines drink strain from the contact.

Purple
Green, keep it there. What is it showing you?
The limb no longer feels like a blind barrier. It feels like a guard, braced over a living depth, waiting for Green to answer.
“I rest my forehead against the pale hide of the beast and ask it if it would kindly bring me down into the pit”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Green leans in and rests her forehead against the pale hide. The creature does not lunge or flinch. It sinks one heavy wrist, then angles its body to make the opening wider.

Green the Colossus
Can you take me down into the pit?
The answer comes through the vine contact as a slow, guiding pressure. The limb shifts again, not blocking the way now, but framing it. Below, the rootlight pulse winks through the dust like a heartbeat under stone.
Purple keeps her grip high and steady. Blue braces beside her, while Orange and Yellow hold the broken floor from giving way any farther. Their eyes stay on Green, waiting for the opening to be used.

Purple
It is letting you pass. Go while we still have the gap.

Blue the Colossus
I keep it up. Move.
Green’s vines trail along the beast’s hide as she lowers through the widened space, guided by the limb’s deliberate angle into the darkness below.
For a moment, the pit opens beneath her, and the guarded depth below is finally within reach.
“I descend into the pit alone”
SUCCESS (Good Athletics, rolled -2)

Green drops through the gap, one hand skimming the pale hide for balance. Her boots hit lower stone with a hard scrape, and the last of the dust she disturbs spills after her.
Above, the floor still holds, but it shudders. The opening narrows behind her as the limb settles back a fraction, and the broken chamber tilts with strain.

Green the Colossus
The pit is deeper than it looked.
Green steadies herself at the bottom. The rootlight pulse is clearer here, running under the stone like a living seam, and old drag marks cut toward a dark crawl space ahead.

Purple
Green, can you see what is down there?

Blue the Colossus
I am keeping the opening clear. Say if you need help.
A low tremor answers them from above, and grit patters down around Green’s feet as the passage waits for her next move.
“Can i see the entirety of the pale creature down here?”
NO (Unlikely, rolled 71)
Green peers into the gloom, but the creature remains a shifting mass of pale hide and shadow, its full form lost to the darkness of the pit. The light from the rootlight seam is too faint to reveal anything beyond the limb itself.
