Adventure of Misty 1

Misty follows the pulsing script into a dry alcove. Sulfur stings the air, mingled with crushed nightshade. On the obsidian pedestal lies a heavy tome, leather dark as old blood, and her pendant answers it with a low, steady thrum.

The Sorrow-Spirit halts at the threshold, hovering back from the light. Its shape tightens with fear, fixed on the book as if it bears a name older than its own suffering.

As Misty reaches for the cover, the chamber’s runes flare once along the wall. The pedestal trembles, and a thin seam of red light leaks from between the book’s pages.

The tome cracks open on its own to a page of Hellish herb lore, diagrams inked beside names in a harsh infernal hand. Several entries are marked with the same spiral sign as the seal, and one recipe is underlined three times, as if meant for her bloodline.

Misty closes her fingers around the tome and lifts it free. The pedestal gives a dry, bitter shiver under her hand, and a smear of red light clings to the book’s spine like a warning that will not let go.

The Sorrow-Spirit jerks back from the threshold, its outline rippling thin with dread. The wall runes answer with a faint, hungry glow, as if the alcove itself notices the book is no longer resting where it was meant to stay.

The open page catches the dim light, and the underlined recipe resolves into a binding draught for grief, ash, and blood, annotated with a spiral note that calls the reader a key, not a victim.

A cold draft slips through the alcove, turning the page. Beneath the ingredient list, one line warns that a blood heir who reads the rite too far may wake the thing the seal was built to hide.
