The den’s outer shelter lies quiet beneath tangled roots. Ricayu rests among the young wolves while the adult female packmate watches over the recovering pups, and Corven keeps watch near the ridge path.
A mud-streaked man stumbles from the trees. Marek is a young adult with a lean build, wind-chapped skin, tangled dark hair, and a torn brown tunic; one arm is clutched against his chest, blood darkening the sleeve.
The adult female packmate moves between Marek and the resting pups, shoulders broad and fur raised. The pack scents the air, finding blood, mud, and fear, but no immediate pursuer.

Marek
Please! Do not send me away. Armed men abandoned me near the road. They may return, and they will find this den if I remain outside.
Marek looks back toward the trees again, stumbling against a root before catching himself. His breath comes raggedly, and his uninjured hand lifts in a helpless plea.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
Stay where you are. You will not approach the young. Tell us how many men followed, and whether they saw your trail.
Corven emerges from the ridge shadows, altered ears fixed toward the forest. The pups press closer together as the adult wolves form a guarded half-circle around Marek and await Ricayu’s response.

Keep the den safe from Marek's pursuers
““I can fight.” I yip at Corven. He nods. Though in age I’m still young, he trained me as a human, trained me when I turned into an elf and then let the wolves train me to get used to my new body and instincts. He lets the others know my skill with a bow, but there isn’t a bow in the camp. The trainers admit, I’ve connected well mentally with the hunters and can use fang and claw well. They let me join the Corven’s group. My tail wags eagerly at joining the hunt. Corven reminds me speaking is also a way to resolve matters.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Oratory, rolled -2)

Ash
I can fight.
Ricayu yips toward Corven, tail wagging eagerly. Corven nods, then turns to the trainers and the adult wolves guarding the den.

Corven Vale
He was trained as a human, as an elf, and now by this pack. He knows the bow, though there is none here, and he can fight with fang and claw.
The trainers test Ricayu through quick feints and shifting calls. He answers through the shared bond, joining the hunters’ movement and using his altered body with practiced control.

The Lead Male Trainer
His mind connects cleanly with the hunters. His claws and teeth serve him well. He joins Corven’s group, but today’s hunt will spend his recovering paw.
The decision is granted. Ricayu falls into place beside Corven, tail sweeping the leaves, while the injured forepaw aches under his weight as the hunting party forms.

Corven Vale
Remember, brother, fighting is not the only strength we carry. A spoken truth can resolve what fang and claw would only worsen.
“I wait in the den with Corven’s group so I can recover. I am pushed back inside with the other pups. The other youths pounce me excitedly tackling me lovingly and excited I’ll get to run with a hunting group. I’m made to rest by the den mothers to recover and let sleep overtake me. I dream of playing and running with the other pups. More and more of my mind becoming filled with the wilds.”

Ricayu waits beside Corven’s hunting group, keeping the injured forepaw tucked beneath him. At the den entrance, the adult wolves decide recovery matters more than today’s hunt.
The den mothers, adult female werewolves with broad, fur-covered bodies and sturdy, natural silhouettes, gently herd him back beneath the roots. The young wolves, adolescent werewolves with lightly built, wolf-like bodies and matching fur, erupt around him, pouncing, tumbling, and pressing close in excited welcome.

Finn
You get to hunt with Corven’s group! Rest now, then you can run with us again!
Ricayu is nudged onto the soft bedding as eager paws pat his shoulders and flank. The den mothers inspect his forepaw, then settle him firmly among the pups.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
Enough excitement, young one. Sleep and heal. The pack will keep your place until your paw is ready.
Warm bodies gather around Ricayu as the den quiets. Sleep overtakes him, carrying him into bright dreams of chasing leaves, racing streams, and wrestling beneath the ridge.
In the dream, paws, scents, wind, and shared calls fill his awareness. The wild settles deeper into his mind while the pups run beside him through endless green.
“More and more of my old life slips away. It’s subtle at first, but my human childhood is like smoke and wisps. It’s there but almost invisible. The childhood I remember is the new one I live now. I know I started as something else but it’s fading and becoming easier to forget as instinct, the lack bond and my new family fill me.”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +2)
Sleep carries Ricayu through a forest made of scent and motion. The pack’s breathing surrounds him, while distant memories of another childhood thin into pale smoke.
Faces, roads, lessons, and rooms from his earlier life lose their edges. They remain only as faint impressions beneath the den’s warmth, the ridge wind, and the familiar rhythm of paws.

Ash
I began somewhere else, but this is the childhood I remember now.
The bond fills the empty spaces without struggle. Corven’s watchfulness, the den mothers’ care, and the young wolves’ constant play become the clearest history his senses can reach.

Finn
Wake up! Come run with me when your paw stops hurting. I found a new path by the stream.
Ricayu wakes among the pups, unable to summon the details of a human childhood except as a distant haze. The den, the pack, and this body feel wholly familiar.

Corven Vale
Rest, brother. Whatever memories fade, your judgment and our bond remain. You are here, and the pack knows you.
“I check my law and the werewolf healing factor is a blessing to restore wounds. I yip and whine at the den mothers to go and play with my young pack mates. I’ve started calling my best friend Finn”
FAILURE (Mediocre Diplomacy, rolled -2)

Ricayu tests his injured forepaw beneath the den’s roots. The ache has dulled, and the wound is closing, but the healing blessing has not restored his strength yet.
He lifts his muzzle and yips toward the den mothers, then whines toward the young wolves. His tail beats the bedding, plainly asking to join their play.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
No running today, young one. Healing is a blessing, not permission to spend the strength it gives you.
The den mothers block the entrance with calm, sturdy bodies. When Ricayu tries to rise, his forepaw buckles, and they guide him back onto the bedding.

Finn
I am Finn now, remember? I will bring the game to you. We can wrestle gently until your paw is ready.
The young packmate settles beside Ricayu and begins a quiet game of paw taps and muzzle nudges. The other young wolves gather close, turning play into a warm denbound celebration.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
That is better. Let the pack come to you today, and tomorrow your healing will tell us what you may safely do.
“Something strange begins to happen. I have always been larger than the other pups… but it seems I’m regressing and Finn and I become closer and closer to the same age… as if the will of the wilds is not trying to rush me to hunt, but seeks to let me grow into my new self.”
FAILURE (Good Health, rolled +1)

Ricayu settles beside Finn and yields to the den’s warmth, allowing the wild’s patient pull to move through his fur, bones, and healing forepaw.
For a breath, his body grows lighter and smaller, shoulders narrowing and paws shortening until he nearly matches Finn’s size. Then the change stops, leaving him slightly larger still.
The sudden shift drains his strength. His forepaw trembles, and the den mothers press him gently back into the bedding before he can rise.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
The wild is not racing you toward the hunt. It is teaching your body patience, but healing and growing are not commands you can force.
Finn studies Ricayu’s altered size, then settles shoulder to shoulder beside him. Their breathing falls into the same rhythm, and their scents now mingle without one towering over the other.

Finn
We are nearly the same now. When your paw heals, we can learn the next paths together.
The attempt does not complete the regression, but it reveals a gentler path: rest beside Finn, share the den’s rhythm, and let the change unfold without force.
““I started out being maybe four years older… now it looks like I’m only one year older.” I observe as I compare the sizes of our bodies. Finn thinks it’s great. I have years now to spend in the den with him and the other pups. I choose to embrace it and enjoy my life… my acceptance seems to give the regression permission to try again to be the same age and size so our destiny can be closely tied together.”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +2)

Ash
I began perhaps four years older than Finn. Now I am only one year older, and our bodies are nearly the same size.
Ricayu settles fully into the den’s warmth, accepting the pups, the patient care, and the years ahead beneath the ridge. He stops resisting the life forming around him.

Finn
That is wonderful! We can grow together, run together, and learn every path as the same age!
Acceptance moves through Ricayu like a quiet permission. His shoulders narrow, his paws shorten, and his body gently settles until he matches Finn in height and youthful proportion.
The change leaves no strain behind. His healing forepaw rests comfortably against the bedding, while the den’s shared scent and breathing settle into his bones as familiar childhood.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
There. The wild heard your welcome. Rest now, young ones. You have many seasons to grow, learn, and serve the pack together.
Finn presses close beside Ricayu, and the other pups gather around them. Their destiny now follows one shared rhythm, beginning with play, healing, and years within the den.

Protect Marek from the armed pursuers
“When I’m well, several days later, Finn and I head outside and I’ve taken to running on four legs like the other pups. We see Marek and I remember he was trying to get away. I stop and talk with him. “Hi.” I say with a youthfulness. “The pack is a good place to hide. You should join us. Maybe let someone bite you so you can be one of us and hide here. They won’t recognize you as a wolf.” I say happily.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Oratory, rolled +4)

Several days later, Ricayu’s forepaw is strong again. He and Finn race outside on four legs, weaving through fern and sunlight with the other pups.
Near the eastern stream, they find Marek beside a boundary tree. His torn tunic is cleaner, but he still watches the road with guarded relief.

Ash
Hi. The pack is a good place to hide. You should join us. Maybe let someone bite you so you can be one of us and hide here. They will not recognize you as a wolf.
Marek stares at Ricayu’s youthful wolf-like form, then lowers himself carefully to the ground. His fear gives way to sudden, searching hope.

Marek
If the pack will have me, I will join. I will accept the bite and keep faith with those who shelter me.
Marek’s acceptance carries through the nearby pack-scent. He also reveals that six armed men are searching the road, and their leader carries a red cord around his wrist.

Marek
They followed the river road toward the ridge. I can lead your watchers to the place where they camped, before they find this hollow.
“I tell Corven Marek wants to join the pack. I suggest Marek leave a trail that looks like the pack pursued him along the river. Then when it turns to water and stone, the pack carry him back so his pursuers go the wrong direction. They will think he died to the mobs of wolves if they find nothing and not know he chose to become one.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Oratory, rolled +3)

Ash
Marek wants to join the pack. Let him leave a trail that looks like we pursued him along the river, then turn it into water and stone.

Ash
We carry him back from there. His pursuers will find nothing, believe wolves took him, and never know he chose this life.
Corven listens with his ears angled toward the road. Marek watches him anxiously, while the stream offers mud, stones, and enough cover to shape a convincing trail.

Corven Vale
A clean misdirection, brother. Marek leaves his scent toward the river, and we scatter our tracks behind him. At the water, we erase the truth.
Marek follows the plan, stumbling along the bank before entering the shallows. The pack drags branches through the mud, layers wolf-scent over his trail, then carries him upstream across stone.

Marek
They will think I was driven into the river and taken by wolves. I can feel the pack protecting me already.
The false trail ends in churning water, while Marek returns unseen to the hollow. From the ridge, Corven spots the six men’s camp and confirms the leader’s red cord without revealing the pack.

“Marek is taken back to the pack and discussion is had at who will give him the blessing of the bite and him into the pack.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Oratory, rolled -2)

Ricayu and the pack carry Marek upstream across stone and return him to the hollow. The effort leaves Ricayu’s healing forepaw aching, but the false trail remains intact.

Marek
I am ready to accept the bite, but I will not pretend to know which of you should give it.

Corven Vale
The choice belongs to the pack, not to fear. The biter must have patience enough to guide him through what follows.
The eldest packmate calls the adults to the flat stone. Marek kneels before them while the young wolves watch from the den entrance, curious but quiet.

The Eldest Packmate
I will not give this blessing myself. The adult female packmate sheltered the young and knows how to tend a frightened newcomer. Let her choose.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
Marek, I will bite you only if you remain certain. The pack will protect you, but you will owe it honesty, care, and responsibility.
Marek agrees. The adult female packmate gives him the blessing of the bite, cleanly and without spectacle, while the pack closes around him in support and Ricayu’s sore paw throbs beneath the gathered warmth.
“I drift asleep as my body heals and it finally settles completely into the form of a cub… a pup and Finn and I almost look like twins.”
SUCCESS (Good Health, rolled +1)

Ricayu curls beside Finn beneath the den’s roots. The bite’s ache fades into warmth, and sleep gathers around him while the pack’s breathing steadies the dark.
Through the night, his healing forepaw strengthens completely. His shoulders narrow, his paws shorten, and his body settles into the compact form of a wolf-like cub.
By dawn, Ricayu and Finn are nearly twins, matching in height, youthful proportions, and gray-brown coloring. Only small differences in markings distinguish them.

Finn
You look like me now! We can run together and grow together.
Finn presses shoulder to shoulder against Ricayu, delighted. The other young wolves gather close, sniffing curiously before accepting the new likeness as natural.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate
Let him wake gently. His body has found its settled shape, and the pack will give both young ones time to learn it.
Ricayu wakes warm and rested, his forepaw sound beneath him. Finn waits at the den entrance, tail wagging, while morning light spills across their matching forms.
“Corven asks me questions about my childhood and I share stories about playing, sleeping in the den and can’t grasp my human childhood. He nods and smiles not reminding me of my past and I let time pass as I grow and play with my pack mates. Finn and I grow into the closest of friends playing together every day. Marek comes to me and thanks me for suggesting he join the pack. His fur is a light cream and white tone. He seems happy and I wag my tail and pant happily as he gives me some meat from his hunt.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Oratory, rolled -1)

Corven Vale
Tell me about your childhood, brother. What games did you play, where did you sleep, and what did you remember before the pack?

Ash
I tell Corven about playing, sleeping in the den, and growing among the pack. My human childhood will not come to me.
Corven listens, nodding with a quiet smile. He does not correct me or pull at vanished memories, accepting the childhood I can share.
Seasons pass beneath the ridge. I grow alongside Finn, and our daily races, games, den-sleep, and training make us the closest of friends.
Finn and Ricayu learn every stream crossing and fern path together, bounding through sunlight before returning to the den tired, muddy, and content.
Marek approaches beside the eastern stream, his fur now a light cream and white. He lowers his head respectfully, carrying fresh meat from his hunt.

Marek
Thank you for suggesting I join the pack. You gave me a life, a home, and companions who gladly share my burden.
