Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate

A familiar boar crashes through the reeds and collapses at the stream’s edge. Its breathing comes harshly, and one hind leg is caught in a crude iron snare.

Ricayu and Finn freeze among the reeds while Marek stands nearby with the pack’s fresh meat. The boar recognizes their scents, but thrashes wildly whenever either approaches.

Marek

Marek

It knows us, but it thinks we mean to hurt it. The snare must have been set near the boundary.

The adult female packmate herds the younger wolves back from the water. Across the stream, crushed reeds and a faint human trail vanish into the trees, but no hunter returns.

Finn

Finn

That is the boar from our old hunting ground. Can we make it understand we are helping?

The boar kicks again, tightening the iron around its leg. Its panic carries through the streambank, mixing with blood-scent, mud, and the sharp smell of worked metal.

Marek

Marek

We need a plan before it tears itself worse. I will follow your lead, Ricayu.

“I pause and then start to sing. I let kind words flow from my throat. My tail wags and I hop on four legs in a friendly gait. I let my voice soothe and I roll on my back in front of the boat exposing my belly. I whine and show I’m not a threat. I sniff its leg and whine and then when it is still and watching me with a questioning gaze I pull the trap apart freeing the boar. My strength… I’m strong, I realize. I look at my paws and my arms realizing the power the wolf has in my muscles and limbs. “Friends.” I yip at the boar.”

Ricayu pauses, then sings softly. Kind sounds flow across the stream as his tail wags and he hops forward on four legs, keeping his movements loose and friendly.

He rolls onto his back, exposing his belly, and whines. The boar stills, watching him with a questioning gaze instead of thrashing against the iron.

Ricayu crawls close, sniffs the trapped leg, and whines again. When the boar holds steady, he grips the crude snare between his paws and pulls.

The iron tears apart with a sharp crack. Ricayu frees the boar, but the sudden noise echoes through the reeds, and the boar bolts several paces before stopping.

Ash

Ash

Friends.

Ricayu looks down at his paws and arms. The strength in his wolf-shaped limbs has bent iron apart, though the effort leaves his claws split and one paw stinging.

Marek

Marek

It understands you, Ricayu. Look, it is standing freely. The pack’s kindness reached it before fear could carry it away.

“I crawl on my belly to the boar and roll over on my back and tip playfully. It snorts and rolls in the mud next to me. I laugh as we play. It nuzzles me with its snout and I laugh. I become a pup playing and the other pups hop into the pile. We are lost in the pure joy of play, all worry and concerns melting away. My world becomes the pack and more of my old life slips away. The lingering smoke from my human past drifts away… I still remember being elven but it is beginning to slip away as well.”

Ricayu crawls through the mud, rolls onto his back, and tips playfully. The boar snorts, then rolls beside him, splashing mud across his fur.

He laughs as the boar nuzzles his chest with its blunt snout. Ricayu wriggles beneath the friendly attention, answering with paws, playful twists, and delighted yips.

Finn

Finn

He is playing! Come on, everyone!

Finn and the other pups, young werewolf pups with small bodies covered in gray-brown fur and bright wolfish faces bound into the mud, piling around Ricayu and the boar. The animal rolls carefully among them, snorting while tails beat the reeds.

For a while, there is only mud, breath, laughter, and the bright rhythm of play. Worry dissolves, and Ricayu’s world narrows gladly to the pack gathered around him.

The smoke of his human life drifts beyond reach. His elven memories remain as pale shapes beneath the joy, but even those edges soften as the pups tumble over him.

Marek

Look at him. The boar has found a packmate, and our young one has found exactly where he belongs.

Guide the boar back to safety

“We play for another hour and at the insistence of the elders we walk the boar back to our territory on four legs. The four legged gait has become so natural, I’m beginning, it feels as if I was born into this. The boar snorts happily and we all yup as we bring it to the safety of the pack lands.”

Another hour passes in mud and sunlight. Ricayu, Finn, the pups, and the boar chase one another through reeds, rolling, splashing, and yipping until every coat is soaked.

The elders eventually call the game to an end. The adult female packmate guides the young wolves into a loose escort, while Marek watches the boar for signs of renewed panic.

Ricayu rises onto all fours and walks beside the boar. His shoulders, paws, and spine settle into the gait without thought, each step smooth beneath the familiar rhythm of the pack.

The boar snorts happily and follows the streambank trail. Whenever it slows, Ricayu and Finn answer with friendly yips, guiding it away from the boundary and toward safer ground.

Keep the boar within our scent, but give it room. It is a guest, not prey. Let it learn that our territory means safety.

Together they reach the pack lands. The boar crosses beneath the boundary trees unharmed, snorting among the familiar scents as the pack surrounds it with welcoming yips.

Guide the boar back to safety

“We watch as the boar enters into safety and we are brought back to the den. We groom each other cleaning the dirt and mud off one another. Dinner is brought in and the warmth, security and familiarity of the pack blends one day into the next. A month passes and I am rested, recovered and den mother leans her head into mine and I feel her reach in and touch my pack name… a wolf name that wants to manifest. If I let it, more of my past would disappear but the security of the den makes me accept my wolf name.”

The boar passes beneath the boundary trees and disappears into safer woodland. The pack watches until its snorts fade, then escorts Ricayu and the pups back to the den.

Beneath the roots, the pack grooms mud from Ricayu’s fur while he returns the care, cleaning Finn and the other pups. Fresh meat arrives, and warmth fills the den.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate

Rest, young ones. The den is secure, the hunt is shared, and tomorrow will bring more of the same.

Days blend into one another through sleep, meals, grooming, play, and watchfulness. A month passes, and Ricayu’s body is fully rested within the familiar rhythm of pack life.

One quiet evening, the adult female packmate leans her head against Ricayu’s. Her bond reaches gently through the pack-scent, touching the name held beneath his memories.

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate

Adult Female Wolf-Like Packmate

You have a place here, little one. Let the pack call you by the name your paws already know.

Ricayu accepts the reaching warmth. The wolf-name Ash-Stride settles into him, and more of his former past fades beyond recall, while the den’s safety makes the loss feel natural.

““I am Ash.” I say aloud and something stirs when I accept the name. I remember coming to the den… but not anything before. I can’t remember… but I realize I don’t care to remember. I am Ash of the pack. The other pups tackle me and repeat my name “Ash!” “Ash!” And we play… the world letting me go and letting me slip into this new reality, where I exist as a pup, a part of the pack.”

Something stirs beneath his fur and breath, not pain but recognition. The name becomes the shape of his place, while the last pale edges of his former life slip beyond reach.

Finn

Ash! Ash! That is your name!

Finn tackles Ash into the bedding. The other pups pile on, chanting the new name until Ash’s sore shoulder knocks against a root, leaving a small tender bruise.

Ash bounds free despite the bruise, and the den erupts into play. Paws, yips, and shared warmth carry him fully into the pack’s young life, where he runs as Ash.

“I continue to grow in the warmth and security of the pack. My name is Ash and den mother becomes my mother as my memory gets hazier of my arrival. I love my den mother. She loves me and all I know is the pack. Training continues and the instincts of the pack are so ingrained as this is the only world I know. It is home, it is reality.”

Wake, little one. The pack is stirring, and there is much to learn today.

Ash presses his muzzle to his mother’s fur before following her outside. The den, the stream, and every familiar scent form the complete world he knows.

Training continues along the ridge. Ash runs with Finn and the other young wolves, learning silent turns, warning calls, and the instinctive spacing that protects the smallest.

Do not wait for orders. Feel the pack’s need and move where your strength matters.

Ash senses a hidden disturbance beneath the pines and angles the formation around it. The others follow without hesitation, their shared rhythm making thought almost unnecessary.

At dusk, Ash returns to the den and curls against his mother. Her grooming, the pups’ breathing, and the pack’s watchful presence make home and reality the same thing.

“More seasons pass and I grow strong and fill out into a mighty and muscular framed wolf. Training makes each of us older pups into more and more of a weapon and we are eager to go on hunts and admire the hunters and warriors eager to join them. Finn presses shoulder to shoulder with Ash, now so alike that the younger pups stare between them in delight. Their voices join the chant: Ash and Finn are twins.

“We train and we both are eager to join the hunts. We are taken on smaller hunts to chase rabbits and little by little work our way up. Our frames broaden and we work out together determined to become legends for the pack. We become muscular as training, sleep and feeding become our sole activities. We have become thick with corded muscle and are almost ready to join the hunters. They put us before a trial and our tails wag happily.”

Ash and Finn train through every waking season. They chase rabbits, flush hares, and learn to bring small prey down without breaking formation or endangering the weakest.

Their meals, sleep, and conditioning fill the years. Shoulders broaden, chests thicken, and corded muscle hardens beneath gray-brown fur as the twins grow into powerful young hunters.

The pack raises the hunts gradually: rabbits become foxes, foxes become wary deer. Ash and Finn share every trail, turning together and guarding one another through mud, rain, and steep ground.

Finn

At last, the trainers lead them before the flat stone. Ash and Finn stand shoulder to shoulder, tails wagging hard as the hunters announce their trial.

The trial sends them after a marked stag through broken woodland. They coordinate the chase, halt before a dangerous ravine, and guide the quarry toward the waiting hunters without reckless pursuit.

They complete the trial and are accepted into the hunting formation. Ash’s right shoulder bears a deep strain from the final climb, painful but not disabling, while Finn presses against him in proud relief.

Hunters heal before boasting. At dawn, you will join the outer patrol and learn how to carry responsibility beyond the training ground.

The lead trainer turns toward the ridge, where distant hoofprints cross the boundary trail. The pack has accepted the twins, and their first true hunt now waits beyond the trees.

“I let her treat my shoulder and I get rest so I can be recovered more by morning. The werewolf blessing of healing and recovering quickly takes root and locks me to the tribe and being a werewolf.”

Ash sleeps beneath the den roots with Finn nearby. Warmth spreads through his shoulder, but the strain tightens into a stubborn stiffness rather than vanishing.

The blessing takes root deeper than the injury. It settles his scent, body, and instincts firmly into the tribe, leaving no path back to any former life.

His perception spreads across the ridge: streamwater, pine resin, old boundary marks, distant deer, and the faint trails of every packmate moving safely nearby.

He knows each pup by name and scent. Finn’s warm gray-brown fur, the smallest pup’s sharp cedar smell, and the others’ distinct traces form a living map.
