Dust coats Bluze's shoulders as he and Mara squeeze beneath the office floor. Through the rusted inspection grate, unfamiliar boots pace beside the barricaded entrance.

Mara

Mara

They followed the repair noise. The winch gave us away.

A second pair of boots stops. Metal clicks above them, followed by the low hum of a handheld scanner.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

This is the station. The armored tracks end here, and the fresh drag marks lead straight to that office.

The Scout

The Scout

Then we flush the monster out. If the woman is with him, she knows the exits.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

No shooting unless it charges. Command wants the specimen alive. The woman is leverage, and this place becomes our base once they are secured.

The scanner chirps directly over the inspection grate. Mara's hand closes around a loose length of pipe, while the barricade above begins to shift. The hunters have found their sanctuary, and they intend to take it intact.

Bluze

Stay hidden.

Bluze pushes the rusted inspection grate aside and rises through the office floor, placing his bulk in the open while Mara remains silent beneath the boards.

The scanner swings toward him. The Lead Hunter's boots retreat from the grate, and the Scout abandons the barricade to face the larger threat.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

There. The specimen is drawing our eyes away from the woman.

The diversion succeeds, but the barricade no longer holds. The Scout wrenches loose another slab, opening a jagged gap onto the station's rear passage.

The Scout

The Scout

Keep it watching you. We take the office and cut off the tunnel.

Behind the hunters, the rear tunnel yawns dark and clear. Splintered boards rain from the weakening barricade as their breach begins to swallow the shelter.

"If you can move me, then I'll let you take me" i say as i plant my feet and make myself immovable

Bluze

If you can move me, then I'll let you take me.

Bluze plants his feet across the office threshold. His weight settles through the cracked floor and into the buried concrete, turning his broad frame into an unyielding barrier.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

You think this is a contest of strength?

The Lead Hunter lowers the scanner and signals. The Scout abandons the broken barricade, circles through the rear passage, and braces both hands against Bluze's shoulder.

The Scout shoves. Dust spills from the ceiling, but Bluze does not shift. The Scout's boots skid backward across the office tiles.

The Scout

The Scout

They are locked in place. We cannot drag them through the passage.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

Then leave the specimen here and flush out the woman. Tear open the rest of the station.

I rip the scout in half in a bloody mess of violence and point at the kead hunter saying he's next

Therefore, the Scout's shove becomes the opening Bluze needs. Bluze twists, catches the hunter, and tears them away from his shoulder in one overwhelming motion.

The struggle ends instantly. The Scout crashes across the office tiles and lies still, their gear scattered beside the hanging inspection grate.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

Scout!

Bluze turns toward The Lead Hunter and raises one clawed hand, pointing across the ruined office. Dust drifts between them.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

They were holding back. The scanner was right, and now the station is lost.

The Lead Hunter backs toward the rear passage, abandoning the office breach. Their retreat leaves the dark tunnel open, while Mara remains concealed below the floor.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

Fall back. We report the specimen and return with a proper team.

The hunter disappears into the tunnel mouth, but their retreating boots point deeper into the route Bluze could use for escape. The shelter is no longer being dismantled, yet the hunters now know exactly where to search.

New Gift: Defensive Positioning

Therefore, Bluze stays planted at the office threshold while his command rolls into the rear passage.

Bluze

Bluze

Never return.

The words carry farther than a pursuit would. The Lead Hunter stops at the first bend and looks back.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

You heard him. Keep moving. No return without a full team.

The hunters retreat deeper into the tunnel, leaving the office breach behind. Their footsteps fade, and the station falls briefly quiet.

Mara

Mara

They are gone for now. The tunnel divides ahead, and the inspection grate is still our safest way to watch the route.

They are gone, we may rest now.

Therefore, with the hunters gone from sight, Bluze lowers his guard and settles beside the office threshold instead of pursuing them.

Bluze

Bluze

They are gone. We may rest now.

Mara waits until his weight leaves the doorway, then climbs from beneath the office floor and eases the rusted inspection grate shut.

Mara

Mara

For a little while, yes. You made them afraid to come back alone.

Therefore, the station becomes still again. Mara spreads a torn canvas beside Bluze, and the two of them share the cramped shelter without preparing to move.

Mara

Mara

You can sleep if you want. I will listen to the walls, and wake you if the quiet changes.

The cost of standing down is concrete: Mara spends the last clean water in her canteen rinsing dust from Bluze's bound wound. The empty canteen rests between them as the silence settles.

I look at my blood covered claws and apologize to Mara for seeing me kill a man

The empty canteen lies between them. Bluze studies the dark stains across his claws, then turns his hand palm-down, as if hiding it.

Bluze

Bluze

Mara, I am sorry you saw me kill a man.

Mara

Mara

I saw you stop someone who came here to cage us. I will not pretend it was gentle, but I will not pretend you enjoyed it either.

Mara reaches for a scrap of clean cloth, then pauses with her hand open between them, leaving the choice to him.

Mara

Mara

You do not have to hide those hands from me. If you want, I can help clean them. If you do not, we can simply sit.

The rusted inspection grate holds fast behind her. Beyond it, the station remains quiet, while the shelter makes room for an uncomfortable truth.

Mara

Mara

What matters to me is what you do when no one is forcing you. Tonight, you chose to come back here.

I turn my palm up and let Mara help me wipe the blood away.

Bluze turns his palm upward and leaves it open between them.

Mara takes the cloth, shifts closer, and folds it around his broad palm.

Mara

Mara

Thank you for trusting me with this.

She wipes away the dark residue in slow, careful strokes. The cloth darkens, but her hand does not pull back.

Mara

Mara

People taught me that fear was proof of what someone was. They were wrong about you. They were wrong about me, too.

The empty canteen stays between them, and the rusted inspection grate keeps its silent watch. Mara refolds the cloth to a clean side.

Mara

Mara

You came back instead of disappearing into the ruins. Is this what home is supposed to feel like, even when it is built from scraps?

When Mara is finished cleaning my hands, i gently reach out and hug her as thanks

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +3)

When Mara finishes, Bluze gently reaches across the narrow space and folds his arms around her.

The hug is careful despite his size, his claws held away from her back. Mara stiffens for one breath, then rests both hands against his chest.

Mara

Mara

You do not have to thank me for staying.

She leans into the embrace anyway. Beneath the station's rust and dust, the shelter feels briefly chosen rather than merely occupied.

Mara

Mara

But I found something while I was clearing the office. A sealed maintenance locker under the counter. I could not open it alone.

Her voice stays close to him, and the empty canteen is no longer their only immediate supply. The locker offers water filters, if its corroded latch yields.

Mara

Mara

When you are ready, we can open it together. No cages, no orders. Just one small thing that belongs to us.

✓ Quest Accepted

Open the locker

I pull away from the hug and walk toward the counter to inspect the locker.

Bluze eases out of Mara's arms and crosses the cramped office, his heavy steps making the floorboards complain.

He reaches the counter and lowers himself beside it, peering into the dust-choked gap beneath the warped boards.

The corroded locker latch blends into the rust and shadow. Bluze's eye finds seams, stains, and broken screws, but not the release.

Mara

Mara

Wait. The counter is resting on that section of floor.

Bluze shifts his weight back, but the old counter has already settled. A support gives with a dull crack, dropping the cabinet across the locker face.

Mara

Mara

It is sealed under the whole counter now. We cannot open it from here without bringing the office down.

The locker remains closed beneath the collapsed cabinet. The route to it is no longer a careful inspection, but a dangerous obstruction filling the shelter's narrow passage.

I shift the counter safely

SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled -2)

Mara

Bluze plants his feet against the cracked tiles and wedges both hands beneath the counter's lower frame.

He shifts the weight sideways in a slow, controlled heave. Rusted bolts shriek, but the ceiling holds and the counter grinds clear of the locker.

Mara

Mara

Easy. Keep it level. That is it.

The maintenance locker stands exposed, its warped door hanging open. Inside rests a dented filter housing, two cloudy cartridges, and a sealed tin of repair fittings.

The strain pulls at Bluze's bound wound. The bandage darkens beneath his armor, and a fresh metallic report rolls through the station.

Mara

Mara

We have the locker open, but that sound carried. Do we take what we can and move, or hold this room?
