The station has held through dust storms, cold nights, and watchful silence. At dawn, a battered truck rolls to a stop beyond the barricade. Its engine coughs, then dies.

Mara

They found us.

A figure rises beside the truck, face hidden behind a patched mask. The Lead Hunter studies the reinforced walls, the covered grate, and the narrow service entrance.

The Lead Hunter

Bluze. Come out alone. The station stays untouched, and Mara walks free.

Mara

Mara

That is not a rescue. It is a cage with better wording.

The Lead Hunter raises one hand. Behind them, two rifles appear over the truck bed, trained on the office windows. Mara grips the station's old signal switch, ready to trigger the harsh alarm and expose every hiding place.

The Lead Hunter

You can keep hiding here, or prove the stories wrong. Step into the open, monster, and decide what this sanctuary is worth.

Inside the quiet room, the choice narrows to a breath. The shelter can remain hidden, the alarm can call the wasteland's attention, or Bluze can meet the hunters at the threshold on his own terms.

I tell the hunter that i am just a man with a monstrous appearance trying to live a quiet life. I apologize to him fir killing the men that tried killing me. And i ask him if he would kindly leave us alone.

Bluze

I am a man with a monstrous appearance, trying to live a quiet life. I am sorry for killing the men who tried to kill me. Please leave us alone.

The words cross the forecourt without challenge. Dust moves between the threshold and the truck, carrying neither threat nor answer.

The Lead Hunter

You speak like someone who has been asked to become a weapon too many times.

The Lead Hunter lowers their raised hand. Behind the truck, the rifles dip, then vanish from the truck bed.

Mara

Mara

Then let this be the last time anyone asks him to prove what he is.

The Lead Hunter

The Lead Hunter

Keep your shelter. Keep your quiet life. We will leave you to it.

The hunters climb into the battered truck and pull away, leaving the station untouched. Mara releases the signal switch and lets the silence return.

Mara

Mara

You did not have to apologize to them. But I am glad they heard you.

Mara

I’m glad they heard you.

Bluze

Bluze

So am I. I’m tired of being a warning to strangers.

Mara released the alarm switch. Outside, the truck dwindled along the broken road until dust and silence took its place.

Mara

Mara

Still here. Still ours.

Dawn settled over the station without sirens, gunfire, or graves. Bluze and Mara remained behind their walls, not untouched by the world, but no longer ruled by its fear. Together, they returned to the small work of living, and the station held.
