The frozen ground hums again, the same low rhythm from before, but now it carries weight. On the ridge, a line of heavy cavalry appears through the spindrift, banners snapping hard in the wind.

Their horses are not fleeing. They are following the trail. One rider lifts a gauntleted hand as he sees the ruined camp below, and the whole line tightens.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

There, by the blood trail. The beast is close.

The escaped horse stamps at the rear of the formation, white-eyed and shaking, then turns its muzzle toward Sigrid as if confirming the scent it was trained to find.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

Hold the line. She is the one that took the camp.

Steel glints in the snowlight. Sigrid stands amid shattered armor and fresh blood, while the cavalry starts its measured descent from the ridge, not in panic now, but in grim certainty.

Come, then, to your agonizing deaths.

The words cut across the snow, and the front rank falters. Reins jerk tight, shoulders hunch, and a few helmets turn away before the riders can stop themselves.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

...Keep advancing. She bleeds like anything else.

The line obeys, but wariness has entered the charge. Sigrid is no longer a rumor in the storm, she is a target, and every rider on the slope knows it.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

If she breaks the first rank, the rest must hold.

Below them, the campwreck lies open and red, the unconscious knights half-buried in drift, while the cavalry comes on with spears leveled and faces set hard.

The Lead Rider lowers his sword and spurs forward, forcing the formation into a grim descent. The charge has not begun to break, but it has become personal.

Sigrid meets the lead rider head-on, and her greatclub crashes through his charge. Horse and rider jolt sideways in the snow, the sword arm flying wide as the front line shudders behind him.

The Escaped Horse shrieks and leaps away from the impact, white flakes whipping from its hooves as it loses the shape of the line.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

Hold, hold! She breaks the spear point!

One rider veers hard to avoid the tangle, another checks his mount too late, and the descent turns jagged in an instant.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

Down on her. Drive her back!

Below them, the ruined camp is still strewn with bloodstained snow, the unconscious knights half-buried in drift, as the cavalry bunches up under the ridge.

Sigrid stands over the clash with her club raised again, while the horse line wavers and the surviving riders try to recover their courage.

Sigrid brings her club down onto the lead rider and his mount for a devastating crush.

Sigrid’s next swing lands like a falling pillar. The lead rider and his horse collapse together into the churned snow, metal and muscle crushed flat under the club’s rim.

The rider’s helm splits. His mount twists once, then goes still, its legs folded wrong beneath the weight.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

No... fall back!

His cry dies in the white as the cavalry behind him breaks formation, riders hauling reins hard to avoid the wreck.

The Escaped Horse scrambles downslope, half-blind with terror, and the charge loses its last clean line.

The front is broken.

Below, the ruined camp waits under drifting snow, with the unconscious knights still half-buried among blood and torn canvas.

But the surviving riders do not run. They pull into a ragged circle, spears lowering toward Sigrid as if she is now the whole hunt.

Sigrid drives her boot down through helm and skull, and the rider goes limp at once. The crunch is sharp in the cold air, and a spray of blood darkens the snow at her foot.

The nearest cavalryman recoils in the saddle, spear wavering, while another drags his horse sideways to avoid the fallen commander.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

No signal holds. Get clear, get clear.

Sigrid’s boot comes away slick, and the shattered corpse lies crumpled beneath the broken tack. The downhill line loses the last trace of discipline.

One rider points past the camp, toward the wider dark, as if deciding whether to flee or circle back. Behind them, the half-buried shapes of the earlier knights remain untouched in the snow.

The cavalry has stopped charging. Now they hover at spearpoint range, shaking in place, while the camp below them waits for the next impact.

Sigrid looks to the rest of the knights. "Well? Come at me!"

Sigrid keeps her gaze on the ring of riders, still as a carved winter god. No one lowers a spear, yet no one dares break first.

You hear that? She wants it. So give it to her.

The nearest knight swallows hard and shifts his horse a half-step back. Another glances toward the wrecked camp, where the unconscious knights lie buried in churned snow.

A Cavalryman

A Cavalryman

We rode for a raider. This is no raider.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

No. It is worse. It knows us.

That answer ripples through the circle. The horses stamp and toss their heads, but the men only tighten their grips and stare at her foot in the bloodied snow.

If we live, the realm will come hunting. If we die, it still will.

Sigrid’s silence makes the cold feel heavier. The riders remain bunched in place, waiting for her next move, while the broken camp and the dark ridge hold their breath.

Hearing him talk, Sigrid presses her foot down harder on the lead rider's head, to kill him off for good.

SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +4)

Sigrid drives her boot down. Bone gives under the tread with a wet, final crunch, and the lead rider goes slack beneath her weight.

A Cavalryman:12

He is dead... Gods, he is dead.

The ring of horses shies all at once. One rider drops his spear point to the snow, staring at the crushed helm as if it might move again.

The Lead Rider

The Lead Rider

No mercy. No border. Only the giantess and the cold.

Sigrid’s heel comes away slick with blood. Beneath it, a cracked silver signet slips free from the broken gear and glints in the churned snow.

A Cavalryman:12

She saw us. She knows the host is here.

Fear spreads through the circle like fire in dry straw. The riders no longer hold a charge, only a trembling ring around a dead commander and a giantess in their camp.

Sigrid lunges into the ring, ice club already rising. Snow explodes under her stride as the nearest riders flinch and wrench their horses sideways.

Her swing lands through shield and spear alike, and one rider is torn from the saddle into the trampled camp. Another horse rears hard, hooves scrabbling for purchase.

A Cavalryman:12

Fall back, fall back! She breaks our line!

The ring gives way. Two horses bolt past the crushed commander, dragging their riders into a blind scramble through the blood and churned snow.

A silver signet flashes again under a stamping hoof, then vanishes as the rider above it is smashed down into the camp.

One last cavalryman yanks his mount away from Sigrid’s reach, but the circle is gone now, broken into panic and retreat.

Behind them, the unconscious Lead Knight and Third Knight lie half-buried in snow, while the Fourth Scout’s fleeing trail still cuts away into the dark.

Sigrid keeps swinging in her berserk rage until no one is left alive.

Sigrid’s club finishes its arc, and the last rider folds under the blow. Horse and man vanish into the snow in a single crushing stumble.

One cavalryman loses his spear, another is flung sideways, and the ring becomes a scatter of fleeing mounts and broken men.

A Cavalryman:12

She sees us. All of us.

A horse screams as it takes a hoof to the chest, then topples its rider into the churned blood and ice.

Sigrid’s swing drags through a shield rim, and a sharp crack runs up her arms. The impact jars her, but the field is already collapsing around her.

The silver signet lies exposed for a heartbeat beside the kneeling snow, then is kicked deeper under the wreckage.

A Cavalryman:12

Run! Get out of her reach!

Behind them, the unconscious Lead Knight and Third Knight remain half-buried, and the last rider tears away after the Fourth Scout’s fleeing trail into the dark.
