The Courier slips, and the looted trinkets at his belt answer the satchel with a hard, sickly hum. Violet light flickers across the grotto wall. For one breath, nobody speaks.

The Child
Those are not trophies. They are listening.
The child stares at the vibrating spoils, face draining white. Mara reaches for one charm, then jerks back as it thrums hotter in her palm.

Mara
Hide them. Now. They have been marking us from the start.
The Courier drops to one knee, blood on his staff hand, and the map beside him glows in the same rhythm. The pieces fit with brutal clarity, the hunter's loot, the seal, the bloodline, all of it tied together.

COOL ARROW
The satchel and the child are the key.

Vesper
Then the lord is not following our trail. He is riding the signal.
Loose dust rains from the ceiling as the hum climbs toward a shrill note. In the dim green-blue glow, the group stands ringed by the proof of their mistake, while the grotto keeps whispering their location into the dark.
✓ Quest Accepted
Destroy the listening trinkets
“I start braking them and kill the courier with the dagger and cover the broken charms in mud and salt”
SUCCESS (Good Strength, rolled +1)

COOL ARROW lunges in close and brakes the stumble before it becomes a collapse. The dagger flashes once, low and clean, and the Courier goes still beside the glowing map.
The Child makes a strangled sound and backs into the stone, hands flying to the satchel as violet light licks their fingers. Mara freezes, then snatches up the loose charms before they can tumble farther.
The tracking pieces go in the mud.
River-salt spills over them, white against the dark floor, and COOL ARROW presses the broken trinkets down until the hum smothers to a wet, choking buzz.

Mara
Too late for mercy, but not too late for silence.

Vesper
Move. If that light rose, someone felt it.
The faint violet-green glow dulls under mud and salt. The Courier’s map slips from his loosening hand, its last pulse fading to a weak ember as dust sifts from above.
From deeper in the grotto, a rough scrape answers back, as if something beyond the bend has heard the signal die and is coming to check why.

Destroy the listening trinkets
“I tell the boy to let me see whats in his satchel and se if there is anymore charms”
SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled +0)

COOL ARROW eases the satchel open and tilts it toward the dim light. Mud flakes from the seam, and the mouth of the pouch gapes wider than it should.

COOL ARROW
There is more in here.
Inside, wrapped in oilcloth, lies a second charm, thin as a fingernail and cut with the same violet rune. It is cold enough to sting his palm.

The Child
No, not that one. I have seen that shape before.
Mara leans in, her face draining of color as the little piece of dark stone catches what little glow remains in the grotto.

Mara
There are more hidden in the lining. Look carefully, and do not let any of them touch bare skin.
COOL ARROW finds two more charms sewn into the pouch wall, stitched under a strip of frayed blue thread. The last pulse in the map dies away to nothing.

Vesper
That scrape is closer now. If there is another nest of charms, we need it out before it wakes them.
“I agree so I check everyone stuff for charms too see who is still working with the hunters. I find the rest brake them bare them in mud and magic salt”
SUCCESS (Superb Perception, rolled +0)

COOL ARROW works fast, tipping the satchel over his palm and then moving from pouch to pack. He tugs at straps, seams, and wrapped bundles, and each hidden charm he finds gets pinned under river-salt and smeared mud before he crushes it flat.
A crack runs through the grotto as the first broken charm goes dull. Dust showers harder from above, but the violet glimmer in the cloth folds gutters out with it.

Mara
There are more than I thought.
The Child jerks back when COOL ARROW strips a charm from a stitched boot heel. Vesper lunges closer, then stops short as the last scraps of rune-stone are ground into the wet grit.

The Child
That one was hidden well.
COOL ARROW keeps searching until every pouch, fold, and binding comes up clean. The satchel, the packs, and the discarded trinkets lie dark and dead in the mud.

Vesper
Good. Now tell me that scrape is losing our scent.
From deeper in the grotto, the noise still creeps closer, but the faint answering hum is gone.
