The guard does not go for the door. He lunges across Marin’s desk, blade flashing from his sleeve as the lamp stutters low and long shadows slash the room.

The Guard
Stay back. Nobody moves.

Marin Tohinta
You were never guarding my door. You were hunting my office.
The guard bares his teeth and snaps a glance to the window, already measuring escape. Tracy feels the same cold purpose in him as in the negotiator, the same hidden faction pulling both strings.

Tracy
He is working with them.

The Guard
The facility stays buried. That is the order.

Marin Tohinta
From who?
He does not answer. Outside, boots thud in the hall as the office turns from a private meeting into a trap, and the buried salt works suddenly feels close enough to touch.

Survive the attack in Marin's office
“I reach into the guard's mind to find something he fears and make him see his weapon as being that instead.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Tracy pushes into the guard’s mind, past the blade, past the order. She finds a live wire of fear and folds it back onto his hand.
The knife jerks in his grip. For a split second it is not steel, but something that crawls with the shape of what he dreads most, and his arm locks hard.

The Guard
No. Not that.
He staggers sideways, snarling, and the blade dips away from Marin’s throat. Papers skid off the desk as his balance breaks.

Marin Tohinta
Now, Tracy. Keep him pinned.
In the hall, the bootsteps close fast. Marin turns from shock to ice, snatches at the desk edge, and squares herself between Tracy and the door.

The Guard
You should have stayed out of this.
The threat in his voice is thinner now, because his own weapon keeps seeming wrong in his hand, and the office tightens around the first blow about to land.
“I reach back into the guard's mind and manipulate his emotions to make him feel that he loves me to the point of blind devotion.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Tracy reaches again, deeper this time, and the guard’s panic bends under her touch. Fear unknots. Need floods in. His gaze snaps to her like she is the only solid thing left in the room.

The Guard
Tracy. Safe. Tracy is safe.
His grip loosens on the blade. He pulls it back from Marin and stares at Tracy with naked devotion, breathing hard as if he has just remembered how to stand.

Marin Tohinta
Good. Keep that pressure on him.
The hallway boots slam closer. Marin straightens from the desk, one hand sweeping a toppled stack of papers aside, the other ready to strike or flee.

The Guard
Tell me what you need. I will do it.
For one sharp second, the office is held by Tracy’s will, Marin’s wary focus, and the sound of the door about to give way.
“I force the guard to block the doorway”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -3)

Tracy tightens the pressure in the guard’s mind and turns him with one clean shove of intent. He steps backward, not toward Marin, but into the doorway, shoulders widening as if he means to become a wall.

The Guard
Hold here. Nobody comes through.
The command lands wrong and right at once. The guard plants his boots against the threshold, blade low, body blocking the door as the wood buckles under the next of force.

Marin Tohinta
Good. Keep him there.
A sharp crack splits the office as the latch strains. Papers burst off the desk and skitter across the floor. Tracy’s nose starts bleeding again from the strain, warm and sudden.
The pressure takes.
Marin squares to the door with her hand raised, cold-eyed and ready, while the guard braces harder against the frame. From the hall outside comes a second slam, heavier than the first.
“I call Marin toward the desk and the window”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Tracy catches Marin’s eye and jerks her attention toward the desk and the side window. Marin does not hesitate. She breaks from the door in a hard step, skirts the desk, and takes position by the window in one smooth motion.

Marin Tohinta
There. If they force the door, they will meet us in the open.
The guard stays jammed in the doorway, but the shift in Marin’s position gives him no room to follow both of them at once. Another another crack, and the latch gives up another splinter from the frame.
Tracy’s nose bleeds harder from the strain, a hot drip onto her armor. The office tilts into a bad little battlefield, desk between them and the door, window at Marin’s back, papers spinning in the draft.

The Guard
Back off the window. Now.
Marin turns her head just enough to see the hall reflected in the glass, her face all cold edges and command. Outside, boots crowd closer, and the door frame shudders again.
“I brace the door with the desk”
SUCCESS (Fair Strength, rolled -1)

Tracy heaves the desk sideways and jams it flat against the door. The broken latch hits wood instead of yielding flesh, and the frame rattles under the first impact.
The shove costs her. The desk scrapes loud across the floor, and a jagged edge bites her hip through the armor.

The Guard
Keep it shut. Hold them there.

Marin Tohinta
Good. Now they are contained.
Marin does not look away from the window. Her reflection stays hard and steady in the glass, while the hall beyond bucks with approaching boots and a fresh slam against the door.

Tracy
The desk is braced. The next hit lands on wood, not on them.
A crack opens in the side window instead, a thin spiderweb of glass catching the light. The office is sealed in by noise, splinters, and the shape of the betrayal.
“Is there another way out of Marin's office?”
NO (Unlikely, rolled 64)
Tracy scans the walls for a hidden panel or secondary exit, but the office is a solid, windowless box of reinforced concrete and steel. There is no other way out.
“I hold the desk to keep the door shut.”
SUCCESS (Fair Strength, rolled -1)

Tracy digs in and heaves the desk hard against the door. Wood shrieks on stone, then settles with a brutal final thud as the latch line dies under the weight.
The shove jars pain through her hip, and a fresh sting of blood slips from her nose. The desk holds, for now, but the frame groans under the boots outside.

Marin Tohinta
Good. Keep it there.
Marin shifts beside the braced door, cold-eyed and already turning the office into a fighting space. The Guard stands rigid in the doorway trap, blade low, devotion dulled into waiting.
From outside comes a hard slam, then a second, testing the barricade. Dust sifts from the cracked window seam.

The Guard
Hold. Protect the seal. No one leaves.
Tracy has the door pinned, and the choice now is what breaks first, the barricade or the attackers.
“"Marin, if you have a gun, now would be a good time to use it and shoot them through the door."”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Tracy
Marin, if you have a gun, now would be a good time to use it. Shoot through the door.
Marin does not hesitate. She drops into a shooter’s crouch, draws a battered pistol from inside her coat, and plants her shoulder against the desk for balance.
The first shot cracks through the wood. Then another. Splinters spit into the hall, and the pounding outside stutters into shouted panic.

Marin Tohinta
Cover the gap. If they rush it, I put them down.

The Guard
Keep the seal. Keep Tracy safe. Keep Marin alive.
The Guard shifts with that command, braced between Tracy and the door, blade ready but no longer confused. For a heartbeat, the office feels like a shared front instead of a trap.

Marin Tohinta
You were right to call it. I needed the warning.
