The Covenant soldiers kneel in the ravine beneath watchful blades, their weapons bound in a separate heap. Terry, Quetzal, and Dolores hold the exits while Lunaris circles overhead.

the Covenant commander
We have yielded. Decide whether this refuge is a sanctuary, a prison, or the first stone of your war against the Covenant.
Garran studies the prisoners, then the smoke-threaded sky beyond the redwoods. Behind them, the lodge waits damaged, its roof split and its stores exposed.

Garran Vey
The soldiers can be questioned, but not here. Sable and the others need help repairing the lodge before night, and the god-forged blade still draws danger.
A faint silver glow pulses beneath the wrapped maps at Umbralia’s side, answering some unseen presence beneath the ravine. Lunaris descends beside her, wings tense.

Lunaris
The refuge is standing, but it is no longer hidden. We can return to the lodge, pursue what woke below us, or make this defeated force answer first.

Maelin
Whatever you choose, Umbralia, choose knowing this: home will require more than walls. It will require deciding what we protect, and what we become.
“no one else needs to die today, agree to leave our home and never come back, or don't and you'll never make it out of this valley alive”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +0)

umbralia
No one else needs to die today. Leave our home and never come back, or you will not make it out of this valley alive.
Umbralia’s threat settles over the ravine with the weight of a drawn blade. Her voice carries through every kneeling rank, but the effort tears her injured wing open again, and blood darkens the feathers.

the Covenant commander
You have made your terms clear. The Covenant will withdraw from this valley, abandon its posts, and never return to this refuge.
The commander signals. One by one, the soldiers surrender their ash-marked cloaks and leave their weapons in the bound heap, then file south beneath the guardians’ watch.

Maelin
Then let them carry the truth with them. This place is no longer prey, and it will not become their battlefield again.
By dusk, the prisoners have departed the valley under oath and escort. Garran records their terms, while Sable, Maelin, Ordan, and Rusk begin mending the roof and reinforcing the broken gate.

Lunaris
The refuge stands. It is scarred, visible, and watched by friends now. That is still a home.

The last Covenant cloak vanished down the southern road. Behind it, hammers rang against the lodge gate.

Garran Vey
Terms recorded. No soldiers, claims, or threats beyond this valley.

Maelin
Then let the first law of our sanctuary be that we rebuild what was broken.

Ordan
And the second that nobody touches my roof beams without asking.

Rusk
A sensible law at last.

Lunaris
It is scarred, exposed, and still ours.
The refuge stood no longer as a secret, but as a promise made in daylight. Beneath the ravine, the awakened presence remained answered and watched, while above it Umbralia and Lunaris held their ground among friends, repairs, and hard-won peace. The valley had chosen its sanctuary, and the chapter closed with its gate unhidden.
