The Young Nobleman
grabs Timothy's shoulder, his fingers trembling. He leans closer, his eyes darting toward the Guard Captain
who is now scanning the stable perimeter.

Young Nobleman
I cannot let them catch me here. My father will disown me, or worse. If the boy runs, the guard follows him. That is the only way.

Young Nobleman
[Timothy:0], move into the light. Draw his eyes. I will slip past the gate while he is busy with you.

Timothy
He is using me as a distraction. The Captain is already staring right at the shadow. If I step out now, I am finished.

Timothy
If we move together, we stand a better chance. Don't leave me to the iron, my lord.
The Guard Captain shifts his grip on his sword hilt, his boots crunching against the stable gravel as he takes a measured step toward their hiding spot.
“I appeal to the young nobleman's love for me, and tell him that if we both steal a horse from the stable, we can ride out through the side gate and the guard captain will be unable to catch us because he is still on foot.”
SUCCESS (Good Diplomacy, rolled +2)

Timothy
My lord, your rank can save us both. If you leave me, you leave behind the only rider who knows these mounts. Take one, take two, and we are miles away before that man reaches his horse. Are you truly going to let him drag you back to your father?

Young Nobleman
He speaks true. If we are caught on foot, I am a prisoner. If we ride, I am a fugitive. There is a difference.

Young Nobleman
Quickly then, grab the bay's reins. We ride through the side gate together.
The nobleman turns, his hesitation shattering like thin glass. He lunges for the tethered horses, his sudden motion catching the Guard Captain off guard. The Captain lets out a sharp roar, his boots clattering against the stones as he lunges, but he is too late to close the distance. Timothy vaults toward the lead horse, his fingers finding leather as the animal stomps, ears pinned back by the sudden chaos.
