The Interrogator tosses his blood-stained coil of rope onto the stone floor with a dry thud. He brushes ash from his doublet, his expression vacant and bored as he turns toward the exit.

Interrogator
My work here is finished, Captain. The boy has spilled his guts and the confession is signed. Do with him what your cruel heart desires.

Timothy
He is leaving. If I can catch the captain off guard when he moves to secure me, I might reach that door before he draws his steel.

Guard Captain
Finally. You move like a tortoise, man. Be gone before I decide your incompetence is worth a lashing of its own.
The Interrogator departs without a backward glance, the heavy iron-banded door groaning as it swings shut, leaving only a sliver of light from the corridor. The Guard Captain steps forward, his boots crunching on the grit, his hand tightening around the worn leather grip of his sword.

Guard Captain
The boy is weak, but he has the eyes of a cornered rat. I will enjoy breaking him once more.

Escape the Iron Cell
“I use my oratory to suggest to the captain that he keep me in chains as his servant, so that he can take his perverse pleasure by spanking me whenever he wishes.”
SUCCESS (Superb Oratory, rolled +3)

Timothy
Please, Captain, wait. Why waste your strength on a broken soul who only wishes to serve? Keep me here in these chains. I am small, I am yours to command, and should the mood strike you... you need not hunt for a target. I am the perfect vessel for your displeasure, always within reach, and far more convenient than a cold dungeon floor.
The Captain stops. The aggression in his shoulders sags, replaced by a dark, hungry curiosity. He lowers his sword, the metal tip scraping against the stone.

Guard Captain
The boy has the sense to see his place. A pet that begs for the rod is far more entertaining than a corpse.

Guard Captain
You have a silver tongue, whelp. Very well. We shall see if your skin is as willing as your mouth.
“I offer to satisfy the captain's perverted desires in any way he chooses.”
SUCCESS (Superb Oratory, rolled +0)

The Guard Captain kicks the heavy iron bolt of the cell door, sending a resonant clang echoing through the stone chamber. He steps closer, his boots pressing into the loose dust of the breached wall. He looms over Timothy, his shadow casting a long, jagged silhouette against the damp masonry.

Guard Captain
Kneel, then. Prove your devotion. If your words hold truth, you shall find that I am a far more generous master than that blacksmith ever was.

Timothy
The air is thick with the stench of stagnant water and his own sweat. He is closing the distance. My hands are still bound, but my legs remain free. If I can draw him just one step closer to the jagged edge of the wall, perhaps I can slip into the shadows of the corridor before he realizes his mistake.

Guard Captain
Well? Are you trembling in fear, or in anticipation?
“I use my willpower to submit to pleasuring the captain in a way that humiliates and disgusts me, hoping that his enjoyment of it might lead him to value me slightly more.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)
Timothy lowers his head, his face burning with a shame that cuts deeper than any blade. He sinks to his knees, his movements deliberately slow and pliant, offering the Guard Captain the utter submission he craves. He keeps his gaze fixed firmly on the dirt at the Captain's boots, his posture intentionally small and fragile.

Timothy
Every instinct screams to bolt for the breach. But if he is amused, he is unguarded. If he finds me useful, he will not break me—not yet.

Guard Captain
He lets out a low, gravelly chuckle, the sound vibrating in the small cell.
So, the cornered rat finally learns to dance. There is a strange, pathetic grace in your surrender, boy.

Guard Captain
Stay right there. Do not move a muscle until I say otherwise.

Timothy
(He
“I use my willpower to obey the captain and remain in place until he decides to once again use his belt on my buttocks.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)
Timothy remains as still as a stone statue. His muscles ache, and his skin prickles with the anticipation of pain, but his resolve holds firm. He does not flinch when the Guard Captain paces closer, the leather of his boots scraping against the cold, damp stone of the cell floor.

Guard Captain
He stops directly in front of the boy, his looming shadow swallowing the weak light from the breach.
You have a strange way of bowing, rat. No shaking. No whimpering. Most boys beg for their lives before the belt even leaves my hand.

Guard Captain
You are either a fool or a creature with no spirit left to break. Let us see which it is.
The Captain unbuckles his belt with a sharp, metallic click, the sound echoing off the curved walls. He loops the heavy leather around his fist, the buckle clattering against the metal studs. He steps into Timothy's personal space, his eyes cold and devoid of pity.

Timothy
The air is thick with the scent of old iron and sweat. He is waiting for me to break, but he will be waiting a long time.
“I use my oratory to persuade the captain that it is right and proper for him to satisfy his perverted pleasures on my body for the rest of the night, but then to deliver me before the court to receive my punishment in the morning.”
SUCCESS (Superb Oratory, rolled +0)

Timothy
Your authority is absolute, Captain. It is your right to enjoy the spoils of this cell as you see fit. My body is a vessel for your frustration, and I would be honored to serve that purpose until the sun rises. But if you wish to see me truly broken, take me before the court when the bells ring. Let the magistrate witness the man who dared to defy you, and let him deliver the final judgment while I am still trembling from your touch.
The Captain pauses, the belt slack in his grip. The cold cruelty in his eyes flickers with a sudden, predatory curiosity. He breathes out, a ragged sound in the stillness.

Guard Captain
A strange sort of devotion, rat. To offer yourself to the lash now, only to demand the executioner later. Very well. I shall savor your discomfort tonight, and we shall see if your tongue remains so silver when the judge’s mallet falls.
“I use my oratory to tell the captain that I am awed by his strength and power and have enjoyed pleasuring him, telling him that I was already familiar with such experiences having had them forced on me by my former master.”
SUCCESS (Superb Oratory, rolled +2)

Timothy
You speak as if your strength is a burden, Captain, yet watching you handle the steel and the lash is a revelation. My former master was a cruel man, and he broke my spirit often enough to leave me with a hollow ache that only someone of your stature could hope to fill. Being in your shadow, feeling the weight of your gaze, it... it awakens a strange, dark fire in me that I have not felt since those nights in the forge. You possess a command that makes my own suffering feel like a privilege.

Timothy
If he believes my submission is born of trauma rather than deceit, he will keep his guard lowered just long enough for me to reach the threshold.
The Guard Captain stills. The belt hangs limply from his thick fingers, his features contorting into a mask of dark, possessive satisfaction. He steps closer, his boots pressing into the dust, and reaches out to tilt Timothy's chin upward with the tip of his calloused thumb.

Guard Captain
Perhaps you are more useful than I imagined, rat.

“I use my willpower to force myself to shackle my wrists and ankles in the heavy chains, not wanting to be tempted to try to escape, and genuinely wanting to be punished as I deserve.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -1)
“I accompany the captain out of the court to the public square where the pillory and whipping post have been set up. A waiting crowd mutters and whispers with interest, many displaying obvious glee at my predicament.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)
The heavy iron door grinds open, exposing a path of splintered stone. The Guard Captain
steps out, his hand firm on my shoulder. We emerge into the blinding midday sun of the public square. A sea of faces turns toward us.

Timothy
The crowd is hungry. I see the pillory standing stark against the sky. If I don't find a way to redirect this momentum now, my back will pay the price for the Captain's amusement.

Guard Captain
Behold the little thief who thinks his tongue is sharper than my steel. Let us see how he sings when the wood closes around his neck.
He marches me forward, shoving me toward the wooden frame. The crowd jeers, voices rising in a jagged chorus of anticipation. I stumble, but keep my footing, scanning the knots of the ropes and the faces of the nearest onlookers.

Timothy
Stay calm. Move with the push, not against it. If I can slip these bonds while the Captain is distracted by the mob's roar, I might find a gap in the fence.
