The Lead Merchant steps into the open, one hand sweeping toward the shale crack where the map is hidden. His fear hardens into hungry urgency as the storm hammers the pass.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

Leave the stone. The storm takes fools, not bargains. Take the map and run while you can.

Grimlock holds his ground, whip low, dagger ready. The dire wolf pads closer to his side, a warning growl rolling through the stone-choked air.

The Old Hermit

The Old Hermit

He reaches for the map, not the relic. He is buying time, or stealing it.

The Lead Merchant flicks his gaze to the hidden scroll case, then back to Grimlock, as if weighing one last desperate trade against the coming dark.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

The map is worth more than a glowing trinket. Walk away now, and you live to spend it.

Behind them, the hooded spearman lies still in the grit. The staff in the hermit’s hand dims another notch, and the pass tightens around them all.

i will trade the stone for the map.

Grimlock eases the Sun-Stone from his satchel and holds it up between them. Its glow is steadier now, less wild, as if it recognizes the bargain.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

There. You see? It settles when it is away from you. Give me that peace, and I give you the map.

The merchant’s hand trembles as he takes the stone. Dust clings to his knuckles, and his eyes never leave Grimlock’s face while his other hand fishes the scroll case from the crack.

Grimlock

Grimlock

Trade.

The scroll case changes hands. The merchant slips the map free, but the seal catches and tears a strip from the parchment edge.

The Old Hermit

The Old Hermit

Careful. A bargain made in storm-light still counts.

The Lead Merchant flinches, then lets out one rough breath. He lowers the stone, and the glow stays calm in his palm. His shoulders sag with relief and suspicion together.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

Take it, then. If the Glass Sanctuary is real, this map is your road. If it is not, we have both paid dearly for sand.

Grimlock

All right, I will. If it is not real, we will find you.

The words land cleanly in the pass. The merchant stills, the torn map half raised, and the Sun-Stone steadies in his palm like a held breath.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

That is fair. More fair than the desert usually allows.

He folds the map with care despite the tear, then nods once, slow and wary, as if sealing more than paper.

The Old Hermit

The Old Hermit

Good. Let a bargain have teeth, then both sides remember it.

The hermit’s grip loosens on his staff. Behind them, the storm hisses at the stone walls, but the pass holds.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

If the sanctuary is real, you may yet leave me richer in trust than coin. If not... then I will have earned your warning.

He tucks the Sun-Stone close, its glow now calm and even, and waits for Grimlock’s answer without stepping back.

the sanctuary is far away. may we have a horse and wagon from your caravan? if it is real, i will find it for you.

The merchant glances toward the storm-choked trail, then back to Grimlock. His thumb presses the folded map flat against his palm, thoughtful instead of afraid.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

A horse and wagon... yes. My caravan still has one team fit for the road, if you mean to earn that sanctuary for me.

He lowers the Sun-Stone into his satchel with unusual care. The glow stays calm, no longer flaring at every shadow.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

I thought I was buying a weapon. Instead I may be funding a search. That is a better bargain than I expected.

The Old Hermit

The Old Hermit

Then let the caravan feed the quest and not the greed. That is how bargains survive the desert.

The hermit gives Grimlock a short, approving nod, then looks to the merchant with the first hint of respect. Behind them, the storm keeps hissing, but the pass feels less narrow.

The Lead Merchant

The Lead Merchant

Take the team and prove the sanctuary real. If you return with proof, I will remember who held to the bargain.
