The mountain pass falls behind as Nogandar descends the jagged, northern slope of the Sunken Spire. The air grows heavy with the scent of stagnant water and ancient, ozone-rich decay. He leaves the molten glass barriers to the winds, pushing forward into the Shadowed Basin.
The Basin is a natural amphitheater of obsidian stone, half-submerged in a dark, glowing fen. Wisps of pale, sickly mist snake around the gargoyle’s ankles. In the center, a derelict, half-sunken cathedral looms, its stained glass replaced by dense, pulsating webs that shimmer with the same violet hue as the spider queen’s brood.

Nogandar
The Weaver’s stench is thick here, masking the natural rot of the marsh. Every web-strand is a tripwire, and every shadow a potential scout for Eulstria’s dark empire.

Nogandar
My wings are ruined, yet I still possess the strength to tear this nest apart stone by stone. Pooril’s justice demands nothing less than the total erasure of this profane site.

Destroy the spider queen's nest in the Shadowed Basin.
“I bark in old laguage hate and disgust for Eultria loudly and pray to pooril for his guidance”
FAILURE (Good Willpower, rolled -2)

The gargoyle’s voice cracks, a jagged, guttural roar of archaic syllables that tears through the heavy swamp air. He demands the heavens tremble and Pooril bear witness to his hate, but the words falter, catching in his throat like dry ash.
The air in the basin does not answer with power. Instead, the violet webs clinging to the cathedral rafters suddenly pulse with a violent, rhythmic light. The vibrations ripple outward, striking Nogandar like a physical blow. The ground beneath his heavy feet softens, turning into a treacherous, viscous muck that threatens to swallow him whole. A high-pitched, chittering shriek erupts from the darkness of the cathedral entrance, echoing the mockery of his failed invocation.

Nogandar
My prayer is ignored. The silence of the void is the only reply to my blood oath.
Something massive shifts behind the web-curtains, its many-jointed limbs clicking against the stone in a hunger-fueled rhythm. Nogandar stands braced, sinking deeper into the mire as the shadows begin to detach themselves from the walls.
“I cast magic missile at the main target, the large spider”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

The gargoyle does not wait for the encroaching shadows. He channels the ancient, volatile energies of his tomb, his clawed hands weaving a searing arc of violet light. With a guttural snarl, he unleashes a flurry of arcane bolts.
The projectiles hum with a lethal, harmonic frequency, tearing through the murky, web-thickened air. They strike the monstrous spider emerging from the cathedral darkness with the force of falling boulders. The impact is instantaneous. The creature’s thorax ruptures in a shower of chitinous shards and foul ichor as the magical force obliterates the center of its mass, sending the beast reeling back against the pulsing, web-choked pillars.

Nogandar
Let your queen watch, vermin. I am the ruin of her design.
The explosion of magic clears the immediate gloom, but the cathedral walls groan under the assault, and the surrounding webs begin to unravel, raining heavy, sticky debris upon the basin floor. The chittering screams of unseen others swell in response.
“I cast a blend with stone on my self to nulify the falling derbis”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

As the cathedral ceiling gives way, sending tons of jagged masonry hurtling toward the floor, Nogandar closes his eyes. He calls upon his deep connection to the earth, his skin ripples like cooling magma before turning to a dense, granite-grey slab.
The debris crashes into him with the force of a landslide. Great blocks of stone shatter into pebbles against his hardened flesh, yet he remains rooted to the spot, unmoving. Dust billows around him, creating a thick, blinding shroud that muffles the shrieks of the encroaching swarm.

Nogandar
Let them break their teeth on my bones. I am a mountain that does not bow.
The ceiling continues to groan, the violet light from the webs reflecting off his stone-like hide. Through the shifting dust, dozens of glowing, multifaceted eyes blink from the shadows, watching the gargoyle. The sound of hundreds of skittering legs intensifies, circling the perimeter of his temporary shelter. One particularly large shadow, distinct from the others, begins to descend from the rafters with a rhythmic, wet clicking.
“I cast mirror image”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -2)

Nogandar raises his clawed hand, his fingers tracing complex patterns in the dust-filled air. Arcane energy, cold and violet, bleeds from his fingertips, weaving into the atmosphere. The air shimmers, fracturing reality as three flickering duplicates of the gargoyle manifest in the gloom.

Nogandar
Let the queen's spawn feast on shadows while I rend their true hearts from their chests.
The spectral images mimic his every move, stepping into a defensive perimeter. The wet clicking intensifies, and the massive shadow drops from the rafters, landing with a heavy thud in the center of the debris. It rears up, its eight eyes focusing on the cluster of gargoyles, unable to discern the true source of the power that threatens its queen. The arachnid beast hisses, its mandibles dripping with caustic ichor, and lunges toward the nearest image.
“I use flame breath on it”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -1)

The spider lunges, its mass displacing the thick, swirling dust. Just as its fangs snap onto the illusory duplicate, Nogandar drops the veil. He stands mere feet away, his chest heaving with the heat of his ancient, cursed vitality.

Nogandar
Burn, wretched creature of the web. Feed the void your foul essence.
Nogandar opens his granite-hewn maw, unleashing a torrent of searing, roiling flame. The fire erupts with the intensity of a subterranean furnace, catching the arachnid mid-lunge. The beast shrieks, its chitinous hide bubbling and charring instantly as the torrent engulfs its multiple eyes. It crashes to the stone floor, thrashing wildly as its legs twitch in the superheated air.
From the shadows of a collapsed pillar, a hooded figure watches, clutching a glowing scroll.
