A Possible Dive Opening
Scott

Jules steps out of the marina shop into the bright forecourt, carrying nothing but her personal things. Behind her, the shop door swings shut, leaving the morning’s paperwork finished.

Scott catches up a moment later, phone in hand and looking more alert than he did behind the desk. He stops beneath the dive shop sign, glancing toward the harbor before facing Jules.

Scott

Scott

One of the afternoon customers just withdrew. I may have an opening, but I need to talk through the timing and expectations before I offer it to you.

He raises the phone slightly, showing a fresh message without turning the screen fully toward her. The harbor schedule remains open, but the possible outing is still only a gap in someone else’s plans.

Scott

Scott

It would be later today, not an immediate departure. I would need you here early enough for the boat briefing, equipment check, and customer setup before we leave.

Scott lowers the phone and studies Jules’s face, careful not to turn a possibility into a promise. The forecourt stays open behind him, with the boardwalk and beach route visible beyond the marina.

Scott

Scott

If you are interested, we can go over exactly what the afternoon requires. Then you can decide whether the timing works for you.

Jules

Jules

What exactly would the afternoon require, and when would I need to be here?

Scott

Scott

You would need to arrive about two hours before departure. We would review the boat, check the equipment, help the customers get settled, and go through the briefing before leaving.

Scott checks the message again, then scrolls to the afternoon schedule. His careful pause makes the opening sound more conditional than convenient.

Scott

Scott

The problem is that I do not yet have the replacement customer confirmed. Without that, I cannot give you a firm departure time or promise that the opening will hold.

He turns the phone toward Jules long enough to show the unconfirmed schedule, then lowers it again. The possible afternoon work remains open, but repeating the question will not make it definite.

Scott

Scott

Here is what I can offer: I will message you by noon with a yes or no. If it is a yes, come back at one, and we will set the exact departure time then.

Scott saves the reminder in his phone and faces the boardwalk. Jules has not received a confirmed outing, but she now has a concrete decision time and a usable alternative to waiting here.

Get a confirmed afternoon dive opening

SUCCESS (Good Conversation, rolled -2)

A Possible Dive Opening

Scott pockets his phone and takes a breath, as though the simple plan has acquired a small obligation. He points toward the marina office rather than the boardwalk.

Scott

Scott

I also need you to keep the afternoon flexible until noon. If I confirm it, I’ll need you back here at one without much room to adjust.

He taps the reminder on his phone, then adds a second note beside it. The request gives Jules a clear opportunity, but asks her to reserve time before the outing exists.

Scott

Scott

I know that is inconvenient. I’m asking for the favor because you’re the person I can trust to understand the timing, but I won’t call it confirmed before the customer answers.

A gull cries over the harbor, and Scott steps aside to let a handcart pass. When the path clears, he looks back with an apologetic, practical expression.

Scott

Scott

At noon, you’ll have a definite answer. Until then, the afternoon is yours to use, but I’d appreciate it if you didn’t count on the shop.

Scott turns toward the office, leaving the promise of a message in place of a reservation. The beach route remains open, while the possible shift now carries a small social debt.

Jules leaves marina shop forecourt behind and arrives at designated swimming area.

“Head to the designated swimming area, changing into my bikini as the opportunity presents itself”

SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +0)

A Possible Dive Opening

The designated swimming area opens beyond the boardwalk, marked by bright buoys and a sandy strip sheltered from the harbor traffic. Sunlight trembles across the shallow water, and a clean changing stall stands vacant beside the entrance.

Jules steps into the stall with her belongings and changes efficiently into her bikini, securing her clothes and personal items beneath the bench. The latched door gives her privacy while the beach remains quiet outside.

Jules

Jules

The changing stall is private, and the marked water is calm.

She emerges ready for the water and checks the shoreline, the buoy line, and the nearest posted safety notice. A gap in the clouds brightens the swimming area, revealing a broad patch of clear shallows.

Jules places her belongings securely out of the sand’s reach, then walks toward the water with an unhurried, practiced ease. The first few steps are cool around her ankles before the shallows warm in the sun.

At the buoy line, she pauses to orient herself. The beach, markers, and easy route back to the stall are all plainly visible, giving her a comfortable starting point for the swim.

“Put on my mask, fins, and snorkel, and go snorkeling”

Jules turns toward her belongings, expecting the mask, fins, and snorkel beside them. The space beneath the bench holds only her secured clothes and personal items.

Jules

Jules

The snorkeling set is still at the marina shop.

She checks the stall once more, then the sand around the bench, but the recreational set is nowhere nearby. Without it, the planned snorkeling attempt cannot begin.

Jules steps into the shallows anyway, testing the water with her bare feet. A small wave reaches her belongings at the bench, forcing her to hurry back and move them farther from the water.

She gathers her personal items securely and stands at the edge of the marked area. The calm water remains inviting, but the missing mask, fins, and snorkel leave her with no safe way to snorkel.

The marina shop is now the only place she knows the matched set can be recovered. The boardwalk route lies behind her, while the buoy line waits unused.

✓ Quest Accepted

Retrieve the recreational snorkeling set

“I walk back along the boardwalk to retrieve the snorkeling set.”

SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled -1)

Jules secures her belongings beneath the bench and follows the boardwalk back toward the marina. The walk is quick and steady, with sunlight flashing between the railings and the harbor opening beside her.

The marina shop stands open beneath its creaking sign. Inside, the matched mask, snorkel, and fins remain together in the marked recreational crate beside the staging table.

Scott

Scott

Back already? I thought you were heading to the beach. The set is right where we left it.

Scott lifts the crate from the shelf and sets it on the counter. The mask, snorkel, and fins are dry, matched, and ready to carry.

Jules

Jules

The complete set is here, and nothing is missing.

Scott

Scott

Take it with you, and keep your belongings well above the waterline this time. If you decide to swim, stay inside the marked area.

Jules gathers the set securely by the fin heels and turns toward the boardwalk. The beach route is clear, and the recreational equipment is back in her hands.

Scott

Scott

I’ll still message you by noon about the afternoon opening. For now, the water is yours to enjoy safely.
